Fun Game

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 0 / 2

Ok. let me start off why i give it 4 stars. One of th best features of the game is how realistic the gameplay is. I mean *Wham* u get hit by the border patrol or what ever it is - u feel it. Another thing i really liked was the levels and how sometimes u hae obtacles that the arrows point through. For example, in desert, there are many mountains and sand dunes that u have to go around that the arrow points through, which makes you constantly thinking. im not telling you that you can learn stuff from this game, with the exception of the opening credits. (which i did use for a mexican goverment school project, but im taking enough so we wont go there.) there are many other features like the car parts flying, realistic backrounds, to easy gameplay. but now for kimmerz cons.

one thing that annoys me is the computers A.I. the will be like "For the last time STOP NOW!" when the jut start to chase u. they also like go right pass you and it is so easy to evade. Another thing is that the load times are VERY long. its alomost unbearable. i mean it take like 5 minutes between levels. But the thing that really ... me off is the narrator. "come on baby, times almost gone." did it ever occur to the producers a GIRL might play the game? ill let u know that its not the voice, it how she put emphases on teh words hunny, and baby, and thing like that. grrrrrrr

Rockstar is the king of game development for the PS2. Now that some of these "older" games are becoming cheaper, they provide a great bang for the buck.

This game is really good when you have more than one person around, because two players can play head to head, which is a lot of fun.

The missions are really interesting, and get pretty challenging. I recommend reading a faq from someone who has completed the game,(...)P>This is one of those games that you can play over and over, I highly recommend it.

There's a better one than this

Its a fun game and interesting game. But if your going to spend your money on this game, don't. Smuggler's Run 2 is a lot better.

Another hit from Rockstar Games, but it's no GTA3.

Since this game is not part of the "Greatest Hits" family, I couldn't loose buy buying the game without renting it. The price was right. I have heard mixed things about "Smuggler's Run", but it sounded like the kind of game I would like. It was. Here are my views on "Smuggler's Run":

The Pros:

1. Detailing. The environments in SR are very well detailed. In the forest setting, you have small towns, mountains, cows in the field, and deers crossing the roads. There are very few people, so fans of GTA3's ability to maliciously run over people might feel short-changed. The problem with GTA3's background pop-up doesn't exist here, so the animation is smooth and fluid.

2. Control. Controling whatever vehicle you choose is like second nature, and moving around is a snap. Fans of Arcade racing games will love the smooth controls, and the ability to flip, dive, and make sharp turns with the vehicle. The ease of the PS2 controller is an asset in SR.

3. Mission-based racing. SR's appeal is two-fold: it satasfies the simple need for speed, and it also provides missions to give the game some purpose. The missions are simple: pick up contraband and deliver it. What adds some spice is the police, border guards, and rival gangs that are out to stop you. The difficulty ranges from very easy to mildly hard.

4. Music. Though simple, the music in SR is very well done. It consists of simple techno beats, which are the perfect driving music. As you are concentrating on the road, the music is a background stimulant that adds to the excitement.

The Cons:

1. Repetative. As with Crazy Taxi, the point of the game is quite simple, and despite some challenges, can be easily beaten. Since the missions, objectives, and scenery rarely change, some might find this game hard to take in the long term. With a paper-thin story, once the novelty of speed wares off, this game might just sit around collecting dust. Also, there are only three different areas for you to drive in: Forest, Desert, and Snow. Though big and well detailed, they never really change. I found the replay value to be weak.

The the premis of SR is simple, it is a solid game. Most people who enjoy Arcade-style or mission-based racing similar to Driver will enjoy this game. But those looking for something similar to GTA3 might feel let down. Overall, it is a fun game to play, but it can get old fast.

Smuggler's Run makes you the driver of a dune buggy who can go wherever and do whatever he wishes. You have the freedom of hitting neumerous animals and people and watching them go well over 20 feet. Satisfying and interesting. Too bad they take animals and pedestrians out on 2P Mode.

this game = the best!

The graphics--awesome, game play--too much fun (especially running over the cops), sound--a little repetitive (The female voice says the same things quite a lot). Overall, a must have for the PS2 owner. If you liked Crazy Taxi for the DC, then you will love this game.

I bought Smuggler's Run and I don't regret it. This is the best game out for PS2! There is 30 missions and im on the 17th mission, and the missions get harder and harder. I recommend this game to anyone who likes racing games and games that are challenging.
