Nothing great about this one

After reading the descriptions, I was really hoping for something like a modern version of Autoduel.

What it turned out to be was a very bad implementation of the PS2 technology with a weak storyline and a bad concept. The graphics are barely of Playstation 1 quality. The storyline is far from engaging, and it really falls flat compared to some of the other titles out there. The concept of how goods are transferred is even rather ridiculous (ram a car and the contents of his trunk move into yours?!). The controls don't even respond cleanly.

Terrible game, I had more fun playing RC pro am on my game boy, nothing like it reads to be, drive around in circles on 3 levels runnign through gates, with the cops chasing you, terrible graphics, no reason to even play this game again

Get ready to do the same thing over and over!

Not a bad idea but this one gets incredibly boring after a while. All you do is keep carrying stuff from one point to the next over and over again. Give it a rent and you'll be happy you did.

What are you guys smoking....

This game was the worst. I got quite far, but it was boring the whole time. The fist couple of missions are fun. Once they get too challanging you realize that your doing the same exact stuff as you were doing on teh first mission, just a lot faster. The cops have to intelligence at all, they just go directly at your car. The game is a MAJOR WASTE OF MONEY. I reccomend using your money wisely on something like Onimusha, that's a great game with better graphics, gameplay, plot, and variety. Don't waste your money or time. I am aware that this review is on the contrary to most of the others, but I feel that you should take my advice. After two complete hours of gameplay I was bored out of my mind

Least favorite of the four I own.

This game definitely gets boring after a while. Yes, the graphics are pretty good, but a game has to be good all around in order to be enjoyable, and this game just doesn't have it. It would have been a little better if the other vehicles didn't always come from exactly the same places and at the same times each time you start a level over, because it gets to be pretty predictable. Another thing that you get kind of sick of when playing this game is the fact that the woman who's talking you through your mission always says the exact same things, again at the same times. You'd think they could have recorded more sound bytes for her and programmed them to play randomly. I think the makers of this game tried to make her sound like she's from the ghetto, but it sounds more like she's a librarian or something. Lastly, the commands that the customs officers yell at you from their vehicles are really dumb, like, "You are driving extremely dangerously. Stop your car now."

In a nutshell, I own four games for the PS2, and I play Smuggler's Run the least, by far. The premise for the game is really good, but Rockstar totally failed to make it a cool game.

Fun premise, but annoying

The basic idea is cool, the point being that you are freelancing for some criminal organization running contraband across the border while competing against cops and other organizations. It's finally something new to the basic speeding/car-racing genre I love so much.

The problem is that all the skills I've developed in other racing games are pointless here...you start with a selection of two cars, a big heavy SUV (that can take a little more damage) and a cage buggy dragster type thing. Well, in one stage you have to show off your driving skills (no pick-ups or drop-offs of contraband) by beating the other crime orgs, and I was unable to do it in the fast car...so I used the slow heavy one, and finally won. Time and again the heavier car is as fast if not faster.

The cops always catch up to you, too. I'm quite good at out-braking and hand-break cornering, yet the cops in their Chevy Tahoes are able to keep up with me, even while driving a 'dragster'.

The inability to outdrive the competition coupled with a a fairly boring set of tasks makes this a great game to rent for the weekend, but not to own.

Where's the beef?

This game sports great graphics. Beautiful worlds but no beef. This game will leave most gamers quite bored after about two hours of gameplay. All you do is drive from point A to point B. What this game really needed was weapons, enemies, and a variety in objectives. If you're thinking about this game, rent it or wait for a better game of its kind to come out.

At first look, I pictured Smugglers Run to be a action fun filled game, as soon as it loaded I knew I was wrong. The graphics are PS1 caliber, there is no plot to the game (in contrast to the backcover), and it is not "fun". I felted cheated... You can not compare this game to any other PS2 game I own. I was truely disappointed.

I rented this game and it was really fun and exciting at first but then all of a sudden I beat the game. It is really short so if you are one of those people that likes to drive cars and jeeps off road then this is the game for you.
