you really want to finish this game

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 6 / 7

everybody who's whining about the game needs to actually beat it. there are so many cool unlockable features that you really want to finish this game. The graphics are great, control is different and easy to get used to, sound is marvelous, and it's just fun. the first level is a training course, but it gets much cooler. beat the game with all gold medals and you won't whine about not having a multiplayer mode. (have i made this obvious enough yet?)

Great game-play, but far too short

I bought this game hoping it would be like the old tie-fighter game for the PC. The gameplay very much is, the effects are good, I haven't had problems with the controls that many others have, however the game quality falls apart because of its shortness. It took me 3-4 hours to finish the game. That's it. It's over. Tie-fighter took me probably 25 hours (a rough estimate - it's been a while). I've been playing GT3 for almost 2 months and am not 50% finished it yet! This is so disappointing - Tie Fighter fit on ONE CD-Rom (650MB) and had so many great missions, Starfighter is on a DVD (4.7GB I believe) and has so few missions - it really looks like very little effort went into this game.

If this game were 4-5 times as long, it would be given 5 stars by me without hesitation. However, now that I have a ...game that I have no interest in playing - I just can't rate it favourably. So I agree with many others who have posted here; rent it first.

Just plain awsome

This game is just plain beautiful! The graphics are the best I've seen on ps2, or on any console. The great story driven game will make it hard to push the power button. The levels are just amazing. If you haven't bought this game your making a huge mistake. I personaly naver cared for x-Wing or N64's RS, but this one brought both together making the best Star Wars game ever. Not to mention the ships. Each ship is different, and with its own different control and weapons. This is a must have. If your like me with a few bucks in his pocket and haven't bought a game in a while, this is the one to get.

Nothing Special

After reading the reviews for this game, I was all psyched up for a killer title - how wrong I was!! The game is OK, but nothing like I was expecting. Yes, the gameplay is simple and smooth, graphics are good, sound is great. But where are the characteristics of a stunning game? I've been playing space shooters for a long time, starting with the original Wing Commander. The last Wing Commander I played (4 I think) had great movie footage, a wonderful storyline, multiple paths to take in the game, and a large number of missions, all of which were far more exciting than the ones found in Starfighter. And that game was released a number of years ago for the PC. To tell you the truth, I'd much rather sit down and play that than waste my time with Starfighter. When will there be some PS2 titles that are actually impressive??

Starfighter Delivers!

I loved Rouge Squadron on the N64 and was really looking forward to Starfighter. Starfighter surpasses any other Start Wars game to date with near-flawless graphics, great gameplay, and tons of extras. There are 14 levels, along with 6 or so bonus levels and bonus ships as well. The medal system is back, and once you get all gold, you unlock two 2-Player bonus missions - Canyon Race and Capture the Flag. Bottom line, if you like Star Wars, space shooters, or just good games, go out and buy this NOW!

Magnificent...but repetitive

This game started off great! Graphics are magnificent, sound effects are astounding, beginning credits gave that real Star Wars movie feel...but after a while, things just seemed to get too repetitive. Basically, every mission is to destroy, destroy, destroy all enemy ships...a short movie scene...then destroy, destroy, destroy...I don't know...it just got tiring after a few hours. Controls are sort of difficult. I mean if this was "real life" flying a ship and targeting would probably be much more difficult; therefore, this game has certain degree of realism to it. Perhaps I'm not such a big fan of these types of games...it reminds me of that old game Descent where you simply blast everything in sight. If you're a fan of Descent and Star Wars, this game may be perfect for you and I'd definitely recommend it. But if you're expecting a sort of strategic, mystery, or puzzle type thing, this is not for you. This game is simply a flight simulator where you enhance your skills as a fighter pilot by thrusting and swooping in all directions and destroying enemy ships until the screen reads: Mission Complete.

This game just didn't hype me up to see what happens as I progressed every stage. After two hours of continuous blasting, it just got tiring and frustrating. By the way, this game will get you really dizzy because you are constantly in motion trying to target that one little ship after another. Overall, this game is not a bad game. I guarantee flight sim and Star Wars fans will love it. I blame myself for buying this game. I'm simply a Star Wars fan, and not a flight sim type of person.

Another Great One By Lucas Arts

This is a great game. It has great graphics, except for the occansional fogging in the background. The music is fantastic, classic Star Wars tunes. The only thing I can think of that is somewhat difficult are the different screens that you get when you are in one of the three different ships. But that isn't that hard to get used to. This is classic Star Wars material. Starfighter is just like Rouge Squadron and Battle for Naboo, where you get medals on how well you do in a level. That accounts for tons of the replay value, because you can see if you can get better ratings and a higher medal. One really neat feature that makes Starfighter stand out is the original Sniper mode you can use to hit enemies from far away. This game is a blast and if you like Star Wars even a little bit you should not miss out on this great game.

Fun game but slow start

When I bought this game I saw how great all the reviews were. Since I was a mediocre Star Wars fan I went ahead and purchased it. The graphics are amazing but the first few levels are extremely boring. All they really do is get you used to the controls and I pretty much got them down after the first level. Anyway the game has a story to it which is slightly interesting but the real fun comes when you get to the other levels on hard and you find yourself in a very chaotic battle. You've got tanks all over the ground slowly moving toward your base and they're firing at you while your trying to keep fighters out. And during that more dropships come in launching more tanks and then in the middle of it when all hell has broken lose one of your wingmen asks you to take care of some side goal. The game is pretty short but if you want some intense battles then you should try this one out.

A polished review, for a polished game this will help!

Can you spell best Star Wars game ever? S-T-A-R-F-I-G-H-T-E-R! When I say best, I'm saying that you should take a look at all the star wars game failures. This game game is truly a redeemer for all the wanna bes in the past. It's not exactly X-wing VS TIE, but it gets the job done. This game has serious style and all-out fun. Starfighter really demonstrates what that confusiong "stuff" inside the Playstation 2 can do.

Level one, you smoothly load yourself into the cockpit of that gorgeous yellow ship. Essara guides you through your training down a narrow conyon. She soon tells you to fire. You press a button, wow! Did I really do that? Yep, the game is that smooth. Right after that you go into space for the real thing with bravo flight. From then on it's eplosions and dogfights galore.

The story doen't exactly pull you in, but that's what the awesome dogfights are for. You start off as Rhys, then someone destroys your ship and your friend. Soon you find yourself poking around as Vana. Nym imprisons her and you fly around as him a bit. Then your find yourself as one of the three ships rescuing or assaulting. That is until the usual fourteenth level called The Final Assault. Here's where you usually fight a boss and see a big ''splosion'' at the end, only the "splosion", isn't that great.

The graphics are great, they suit the game because if they were any better, then the game would have a low frame rate constatntly. Not to mention there are little sputters of choppy game in the loaded with action levels. While on the subject, a dissappointing thing for ps2 owners is that Starfighter will be coming out with enhanced graphics for Xbox. As for the soundtrack, well it' not too noticeable, but it's adequate. Nothing out of the ordinary for a Star Wars game. The same goes for the sound effects, mediocre.

This game is polished, very well polished. Though it seems as though the maker's batteries were running a bit low at the end, hence the small-scale "splosion". So why get this game? My reason is because it's not a sport game. Your's can be that it's fun, a reason as simple as the game. Anyone who rated this game less than 4 stars is either complaining on graphics, or controls. ... ... ...

Starfighter delivers!

When it comes to Star Wars games, I've always been more of a PC gamer. X-Wing and Tie-Fighter were awesome games that allowed great control over your ship. Not console game ever came close to this until now. The controls for the game are excellent. The left thumb controls the nose and the right thumb controls the roll. Targeting and weapons are excellent. One of the nice touches is the zoom feature. In X-wing, you were always trying to shoot some spec in the distance. Here, you can zoom in on your target and gun them down from a short distance. The graphics are incredible here as well. The explosions are incredible and the lighting effects when your lasers fire are awesome. The familiar William's score hums in the background. All in all this is most definitely a must buy for any PS2 gamers.
