Worst game ever!!

This is by far THE worst game I have ever played on any system. I don't see how anyone could think this game is fun. The graphics are not good, the map would be better off not even there, and the glitches in the game should not even be an issue...but they are, besides the fact that the game freezes up, running into objects is annoying enough to make you want to snap your controller in half. Please don't anyone buy this game, and hope that they don't try to waste anyone's time with a sequel.

what a let down...

I was looking for a good multi-plyaer game for my friends and I to play. This game was a huge let down. It just was not fun to play. It was boring. We played a few games and then gave up on it. I have not touched it since.

Great concept ruined!

Luckily, I rented this before deciding whether or not to buy. And boy am I lucky that I tried it before dropping $50 for it.

Well, everyone knows about the concept and cool graphics and all. The game suffered no slow down even with multi-tap on. But after playing for a short time, I realized how bad this game is. The controls are difficult, the power-ups are useless in a race (you need to use shortcuts to win). And worse, the carts move way too slow. The fun of any cart racing (ala Mario Kart or even Rumble Racing ) is that it's fast. This game felt like I was moving at snail pace.

I wish that they would put Mario Kart on PS2 (though never happen) or someone come up with a true kart game. The closest out right now is Rumble Racing which is definitely worth the look if you're looking for cart racing type game.

Stick to Mario Cart

I to was looking forward to this game coming since I am a big fan of Mario Cart. Star Wars Bombard racing is a big dissapointment. The graphics are not that good. The background music, if you can call it music, is so annoying. The race tracks are uninspiring. I have only had it for about 4 days and I have allready offered to sell it to a friend. If you are a big fan of Mario Cart, pass on this game. If you are bored and have 50 dollars to burn buy the game.

I've never played a Star Wars game I didn't like... Until now. This game was horrible!! The controls were wacky, the graphics were choppy, and the soundtrack was no good. Watch out for this one!!

Not What I Wanted

Super Mario Kart tended to dominate the N64 as the best multiplayer game. So I've been waiting and watching the kart racing games for the PS2 hoping to find one that will give the same level of fun. Unfortunately, Super Bombad Racer falls short.

Remember that kart-racing games are suppose to be fun and childish, so the cartoonish characters with large heads and silly taunts are up the right alley. The large number of special items (forward weapons, backward weapons, boosts, shields, etc.) adds a good level of playability to the game, unfortunately with a bunch of racers everyone is shooting everyone all the time and there's no real strategy involved.

The controls for the game are also very loose. It takes a lot of getting used to as you bounce all over the place and can't make the tight turns you'd like to. The levels are relatively simple and there's not a lot you can do to improve your racing ability on them.

You'll probably play through all 9 nine of the levels in about an hour and then wonder what you're suppose to do. The game quickly looses its enjoyment in single player mode. Luckily there's multi-player mode to come to the rescue and this game is good fun with a bunch of people. Still, I've found after running through the levels a couple times with friends, there's just not a lot of joy to it.

Even battle mode has issues. With so many hit-you-from-across-the-screen-automatically weapons there isn't much skill required. You just need to know where on the level the good weapons can be found and hope your opponents don't. And on some levels, Yoda-who can damage everyone with his special item-can just sit out of the way and slowly take everyone out.

Overall, this is a fun game for a little while, but is likely to sit on your shelf except when you have friends over. It's probably better to save your money and wait for that great kart-racing game to come out for the PS2.

what a disappointment

I was really looking forward to this game but I was deeply disappointed. The graphics were not good for a PS2 game on 4 player mode. The maps wass the worst. Some maps you can just plain get lost and are too big. What you want in a cart racing game is for it to be somewhat easy and have alot of interaction. You just don't get that here. Mario Kart still is the best one I've seen.

I'm a racing fan, and star wars fan, so i rented this. I did not like it, but i played it a few years ago so i have no memories on this game. I do remember that the levels were filled with junk and the sense of speed was fast, so all you did was hit stuff. I did not like it.

Pretty good for fans of the genre...

This was the game that finally got me to break down and buy a PS2. I like sort of wacky, off-beat games, and this fit the bill. It combines two things I'm pretty fanatical about: Kart racing and Star Wars. Since Super Mario Kart for SNES, Kart racing has been my favorite genre. The problem is that no game has ever exceeded the greatness of the original SMK. This one certainly doesn't. The presentation of the game is great. The characters all look strange and cool with super-deformed heads. They all make snide comments, taunt, look around and are very well animated. For all the criticism of the graphics, I must disagree. I think the graphics are actually raelly pretty cool for what they are. The designers were going for a cartoony look. The characters all have different abilities, and they actually do handle differently. Plus, each character has a special powerup only he or she can use. That does encourage players to at least try all the characters. The controls are smooth, and easy to learn, but of course are alittle "floaty" and different from standard kart games, because, after all, you are *flying*. It's a little like F-Zero.

There are some problems, though. First, the game is way too short. Sure, it packs a lot of two player fun, especially in battle mode, but the one player challenge is over way too fast. I beat all the circuits in about an hour and a half. After that, there's a mirror modes, a secret racer, trying to score your best time, etc. But the the thrill is over pretty quickly. One feature that the oiginal SMK had that, to my knowledge, no kart racer has had since was the way that record times were saved for courses WHILE you played the various Cup races. In all Kart games since, the records are stored seperately and only are affected by what you do in time trial modes. That little feature added a alot, in that it encouraged players to play the the circuits over and over again. Stunt Racer FX even saved an overall time for the circuit record. That would have helped here. As it is, once you play the circuits and get first in everything (which won't take long) you are going to relegate this game to the shelf until some human challengers visit. The game is worth holding onto just for the multiplayer, though. My second big gripe is that the game is a little buggy (like most Lucasarts PC games). The third track has frozen up on me several times and caused me to have to reset my PS2. Also, there are places in the game where you can get stuck and have to restart the course. The fountain in the Sheed city is a good example. There's no excuse for shoddy work like that!

Overall, the most important things is that this game is pretty fun and you'll either love or hate the *cute* factor. I loved it. I even liked Jar Jar. It got me to actually like some of the silly episode one characters, so it must be doing something right!

As a final thought, what's up with the Obi Wan's "surfer dude" make-over??? Some of the things he says and his new found valley-boy accent are really weird and don't make much sense....

Star Wars Deserves Better...

I bought this game because I am a fan of Star Wars, and I love multi-player racing games. This game does not have the features required to stay entertaining long enough. Sure it would be a great rental, something different to enjoy for an evening, but afterwards it becomes monotonous.

There really isn't anything to work up to while playing this game. Basically, the tracks do not add enough entertainment, and power-ups become nearly pointless in this game. I truly think the animations and the look of the game is great! Still, it is too simplistic of a game concept without an innovative racing system to catch my interest long enough. I happened to enjoy Star Wars Podracing for the Nintendo-64 a lot better.

I should've known better not to buy this just because it was a Star Wars games. I guess Star Wars games can be poor too. Game features seemed to be cut too short to even captivate interest long enough.

Pros: Simple to understand
Great graphics
Neat adaption of Star Wars character design

Cons: Not fun for long
Way too generic

I'd rather play Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart Double Dash, or even Star Wars Podracing before this game.

Great to try and play for a while. Boring to play for long.
