Still a contender but Tekken is dead.

This is really Tekken 3.5 with a tag option making it the only Tekken tag option or any tag fight option outside of a WWF game for that matter. That is why one of the very first games ever made for the PS2 is still a gem to play today ...however Tekken is not what is used to be.

To be honest Namco's Tekken entries since the initial release of the PS2 have done nothing but knock this fighter flat on its face, but before we get to the cons lets talk a little about the pros. Tekken Tag boasts 30 players, numerous fight settings and so the possible tag combinations between characters is almost unlimited making for plenty of variations in game play. This is why TAG is so good. Tekken provides about 50 moves for each character however some of the moves become frequently observed in other characters meaning that you start to see half of one's characters moves spread between three other characters. So if you are looking for more unique moves then really you should be looking towards Tekken 4, however TAG wins Tekken 4 in terms of its lifespan (even if you own Tekken 4 friends will still ask you to put this disc in), so the tag game play makes this game. Basically you must balance between the two characters health as you fight (the man-out regains health) meaning that on infinite time settings good players can really battle it out, however Tekken Tag does suffer from the old `this character is better than that character' syndrome, which to be honest, has never changed in any game series as some character moves are simply impossible to pull-off with years playing with them. TAG's graphics let it down badly. The background is visibly disconnected with the fighting platform (you can see the bad anti-aliasing moving out of sync with the background creating a dizzy fighting experience that is unpleasant on the eye. The fighters only look a little notch up from the PS1 Tekken 3 and their moves are not a whole pile changed. Although appearing fluid at first that illusion subsides very quickly, but you keep playing because the TAG option rulez it. Quite simply, you and your friends are going to be spending some time on this game even though it is not even remotely close to the kind of quality that Namco could deliver on... and believe it or not, Tekken 4 isn't a whole pile better either. This was made in 2000. It is now nearly 2005 and the PS2 has not had the good Tekken gamer it deserves which is sham because Tekken is only available on the PS2!

Pros:
- Tag!
- 30 Characters and lots of fighting combinations.
- Game with a very long lifespan.
- Nothing else like it.

Cons:

- Not much better than PS1 graphics.
- Terrible backgrounds.
- Character strength mismatches.
- Multiple moves shared with many characters.

Just one thing missing, better yet make that two

I really did like the Tekken Tag Tournament game, which is kind of like an appetizer in between Tekken 3 and 4. There were all the old and new charcters to choose from, some of whom I havent seen in a while, so it was fun to use them all over again, with improved quality of graphics. It really makes this game hard to turn off. The only two charcters I noticed missing were Craig Marduk and Steve Fox from Tekken 4, so I guess they weren't developed yet. However the main two gripes I had with this game was the storylines were really cheesy and did little to explain anything. The second thing that this game needed was a Tekken Force. I could imagine using one of the Gun Jacks or Unknown against the Tekken Force baddies. But that's pretty much what I had to do. Imagine. All in all, this is a good game when you want to kick some butt and call it a day.

Where's the Dragon guy and Dr. Bosconovitch?

After Tekken 4 this is my favorite Tekken game. But it's basically Tekken 3 with almost every fighter from the first 3 games (excluding for some reason that Dragon thing and I can't remember is name and Dr. Bosconovitch) And get some friends together and play Tekken Bowling. It's extremely addictive and a big improvement over T3 and T4's Tekken Force Mode! The only real downside to this (and why it's 4 stars instead of 5) is that the end boss sucks ass! "Unknown" as she/it is called is just another Mokujin but looks like Nina with a Big Wolf beside her copying all her moves. A big dissapointment considering the greatness that was Tekken 3's boss, Ogre. All in all though a very good game but could have been better.

Tekken Tag 1.5!

"Tekken Tag Tournament" is one of a line of arcade fighting games that have made a successful transition to the home system. The Tekken series, like Virtual Fighter, are games that are fought in 3D. Like before with other Tekken games, Tekken TT for PS2 is an improvement over the arcade version.

The level and character graphics have been updated and expanded to add more realism to the game. There are added game modes including VS one-on-one, Team battle, and practice to name a few. The amount of moves and combos per character are great. Even if you don't know the moves, the game has a complete in-game list available that includes grabs, throws, and 10-hit combos specific to each character. The ability to have a teammate really adds a strategic element to the game, not to mention it's more fun with your friends. While some teams work well others may not. It all depends on how good you are with the two you have chosen.

My only problem with the game is that the end-of-tournament movies are short and hold no extra style. Granted this was one of the first games on PS2, however Namco has been able to do more with less. This is a good fighting game to have if you and your buddies are tired of one-on-one battles.

A must have for ps2 owners....By GameMASTER Jason

Attention: I have a ps2 and the first thing I did was go and get Tekken Tag Tournament from Future Shop. out of all the next-gen consoles, Ps2 was my first, then Nintendo Gamecube, then XBOX, all of these I currently have along with GBA.TTT is a great game for fighter fans and is an excellent choice out of all the other fighters currently on the market. This game combines all of the fighters from the original games into one game where you are in matches like tag, single or tournament modes, etc. All the characters are awesome, including my favourite yoshimitsu, the only character from tekken to appear in Soul Calibur, a weapons based fighting game. The graphics are very intense, the sound, wonderful and the game is a must have for ps2 owners. Hworang is also very strong in his legs, gunjack, his arms, and everybody else has different types of strengths and weaknesses. This game is just simply amazing and it will keep all hardcore gamers coming back for more.

Greatest Gaming Moment:

Kicking my three freinds butts once in a long fight.
Time Played: 80-90 hrs

GameMaster Jason reccommends this game for:

Superb - 5 Star

Of the PS2 games that I own, Tekken Tag Tournament is the best of the bunch. Full marks for replay value and superb animation. Streetfighter EX3 is very very poor in comparison. Tekken Tag outshines it from every point of view. Particularly fond of the use of Pandas, Kangaroos and other critters. It adds a nice humour element just in case you don't want to be totally serious all the time. (I like the serious fighters like Lei, Paul, Baek as well). This is one game that I'm going to keep playing for some time to come. Full marks to Namco here. I'll keep my eyes open for their next offering.

Basicly this game is all the othere Tekkens put together and put in great graphics. But it still has it's differencies like the tag team itself. The old characters such as Yoshimitsu and Heihachi and all the othere guys are in this. It also has a mini game like tekken 3. THE TEKKEN BOWL which is just bowling with Heihachi pins.Though this game disapoints me in ways like you don't get all of the charcters costumes like Yoshimitsu's Tekken 2 costumes. You don't get all of the characters period like Gon or Dr. Bosconovitch or the Tekken 2 King or Jack 1 and also Marshall Law. Also most of the characters moves are from previous Tekkens but they do have some new moves. The character movies are okay because they all have the same music exept for unknown. Also they have the same graphics as when they fight ( again unknown is given special graphics when the bum hasn't even been in any previous Tekkens) and are silent ( unknown again is spoiled with the priveledge of sound). But this game is still fun. Also the characters don't have there own original power attack things like when Paul does burning fist and a regular kick he doesn't have the fire thing when the opponent is hit hard. It gets me ticked.:( But still this is a fun game.

wait for tekken 4

The game seemed to play waaaay better on the arcade. Sure the graphics are great, and the new moves are cool enough, but the speed of the game has been dropped. If you play TTT and then try out Tekken 3, you can tell that there is a significant speed decrease in TTT. Plus the ending movies are absolute [crud] and Tekken Bowling is a joke. Buy this game only if you wanna impress friends or if you actually like the slow play. My best opinion would be to wait for Tekken 4. I have Tekken 2 and Tekken 3 and I've completely beaten both of them, so I'm not bias towards the series at all.

The Long Awaited Fighting Game for the PS2!

The graphics and sound are excellent. Absolutely breathtaking! True to the Namco tradition, the game is just like the arcade version but better. With more modes & a stunning intro exclusively for the home version, this game has got to be on every game fighter's list. Everything from Kazuya's matrix-looking trenchcoat to the snow falling on the ground while playing, this game has got it all! The only downfall that prevents this from getting 5 stars from me is that the FMV intros & endings are too short. I want to see more!

A Good Fighting game

I am not a big fan of fighting games, but this one is pretty good. There is a lot of stuff to unlock and the game has a lot of different modes in it to keep things interesting. One drawback is that you can't move around in 3d like you can in Soul Calibur (which is the best fighting game ever). But you do get do move to the left and right a little bit. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes fighting games.
