A good game for the right demographic

Cars is a storyline-centered racing game based on the Disney movie of the same name. It features the characters from the movie, some new characters, and many scenes those who have watched the movie will be familiar with (such as the infamous tractor-tipping scene).

Audience: This game is rated 'E' for everyone but will probably not have much entertainment value for adults or older children. My 4 year old loves the game and can play it by himself, but he spends most of his time driving around Radiator Springs and not actually doing any of the minigames/challenges.

Graphics: The graphics are Wii-quality, meaning not pristine or as good as graphics on a PC or Xbox 360. Considering the young target audience, however, I don't see this as much of a problem.

Gameplay: There are several individual races, courses with objectives, and separate challenges (such as finding postcards for Lizzie) scattered throughout the game. While the challenge isn't there for older kids or adults I can see how it would be entertaining for younger ones. Younger children (like my son) can drive around Radiator Springs without needing to worry about winning a race or anything like that.

Control: The Wii remote is turned sideways. You steer the car by tilting the remote (much like Excite Truck) and use a couple of the buttons for gas and brakes. Nothing too special here, and to be honest I see no reason why the Gamecube version would not suffice (unless you REALLY want to steer by tilting the remote).

Storyline: Hey, it's a movie-based video game. Most of the storyline is based on characters making cameos and on corny little events that happen that don't really fit into the movie but kind of relate to it.

Overall impression: I rented this game. I've considered buying it for my son but have not done so yet and would not even consider it if it carried the typical Wii title price tag. I definitely don't recommend this game for anyone over the age of about 10, and even then think that other racing games (like Excite Truck) might be more adequately suited. The main reason to own this game, sadly, is the Cars franchise itself.

Fun, but not for everyone

This is a great game. It has cartoony graphics (a Wii staple) and the controls are intuitive. My problem is that the characters come unnecessarily close to saying swear words in the game. "Holy SHoot!" and "Kiss my axle!" aren't really something I want my kids running around saying.

Good for small kids

I have two children (both boys) aged 6 and 3 years old. My 6 years old kid loved this game.

Overall the game is pretty simple. Tasks and races can be completed unaided by a small kid, and of course it features a nice variety of characters, places and minigames appealing especially to small kids who enjoyed the movie.

If you have a 5-8 years old kid who loved the movie...you can buy it, and you will certainly enjoy it with your son / daughter. But if your kid is 10-12 or even worst a teenager, perhaps he / she will need a more complex and difficult game to find entertainment. And if you are an adult, just skip it. This game is not for you.

Another important note: This game is pretty much the same than the GameCube version, except for the Wii Controller.

Only for a VERY young player

This game is NOT for anyone over the age of 8. It is not challening, and has little entertainment value. If you have a little one who really loves the Cars movie, this may be something they enjoy, but for anyone older, NO WAY!

The characters from the movie are really adorable, and they did make this game go along with the movie, however, racing gets old quickly. The mini games are ok, Tipping Tractors is really cute and a little child might get a good laugh out of it.

Don't waste your money on this one unless you have a young Cars fan in your house.

Drive through Radiator Springs

This game is a lot of fun. The various courses you can drive through are both fun and challenging. The two set backs are the game is quite difficult for children to use and the instructions on how to unlock the mini games are poorly written. I bought the same game for the DS. Both titles are equally fun. With the DS, the tractor tipping is a blast as you blow into the DS to tilt the tractors. With the Wii you steer the Wii remote. If you have a child, once they get used to the Wii remote they will enjoy the game too. It will make them feel like they are driving through Radiator Springs. I just entered in a code to unlock all races and mini games. Once you enter in the code, the game goes from good to great. It is so much fun racing through any of the courses in the games, rather than being resticted to what you have unlocked. The graphics are Pixar quality.

Great game for kids and beginners

This game is based on the Cars movie with original voices from the actors in the movie. Playing it with the wiimote (intuitive) makes it a lot of fun. This is basically a fun game for kids and beginners playing driving games. You have to start playing in the story mode and as you complete races (dont have to win), you will get access to more and more activities/mini games.

There are two modes one for adults and one for kids, but experienced driving game players will not find the adult version challenging. Go for it if you have kids or a fan of the Cars movie. You can get it for $20 at Amazon market place and game is not worth paying more than that.

Great game for fans of the movie!

My kids love the movie so the game is so exciting for them. The Wii Remote steering and the freedom to drive all over town freely, make the game great for young kids (3-5). The game is also deep enough for older kids and fun for adults alike. The racing games are really great! At $20 this game is a steal. So if you like the movie, get the game.

Great for first time gamers (5-8 years)

"Cars" was probably one of our first games. Its one of those games where you can stick your kids in front of it and leave them for 10 minutes without the need of being afraid that somebody gets hurt. Its completely violence free and when you crash into something all that happens is that your car slows down and you hear a bump or some funny remarks, nobody is hurt, no screaming no explosions etc.
The characters are lovely animated Disney cartoons which every now and then make some funny remarks while you drive.
You can actually go off-road and collect miles points (or whatever those gasoline marks are ;-), but watch out if you go to far you might end up in a dead end.

This is the perfect game for first time gamers or for an occasionally friendly match with your best friend.

Serious gamers would probably want to look for the next car racing game as this one might now offer to much thrill-factor when cars that are supposed to run 160 miles seem more like 80 miles, but for first time usage its perfect.

4 Stars for 5-8 year old children, 2-3 stars for more serious gamers.
