A Spectacular End to the Greatest Adventure Game of All Time!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 6 / 15

I just finished playing this game, and let me say, what a rush. The visuals were spectacular, voice-overs and human integration amazing, and the puzzles challenging, but certainly feasible. The story line was very moving. The game was full of emotion, from the opening movie to the final credits. It really made me feel as though Cyan, the game's creators, had put their heart and soul into this game. It was an excellent finale to the Myst series.

It may dissapoint some techno-junkies who crave the real-video lay-overs of some of the previous games. However, I would definitely recommend this game to both the first time player and the hardcore myst fanatic alike.

Great End.

I have so much fun playing this game and sad because there will be no more Myst! It's the conclusion to Myst saga. You will go to unforgettable places with stories that will play with your emotions. You can choose the end and get the results. Yeesha is a very bitter woman with a heavy burden because of her family gift. You will be around places to find out your destiny in the game. The puzzles, once again, are not difficult, you just need to think through and pay attention to every single little thing said and written. Those are your clues. Like every Myst, the scenario is breathtaking and the end a surprise. Enjoy it. It's always a pleasure to play Myst, any of them.

Myst V - A fitting closure for a great series!

Of all of the games I have played, the Myst series still remains the one that holds my attention at so many levels. The richness of the worlds, the integrated consistent story line, the wonderful mood setting musical compositions, the Myst mysticism and philosophical development, the challenging puzzles, the gradual revelation of the deeper Myst mysteries, the development and evolvement of characters, . . . all across a period of over 10 years. Myst V brings to closure in a very satisfying way all that preceded it. The game plays very fairly with the puzzle solutions being logical in a Myst sort of way. I enjoyed the new and different worlds . . . and the inclusion of things from previous Myst episodes and periods. The continuation and resolution of some of the principle Myst characters was especially satisfying. Well done!

The creators and developers took many risks with the Myst series and, in my humble opinion; they have certainly succeeded in creating an environment that immerses the player in ways that few other games accomplish. To extend that experience, I have used the Prima Official Guide and the other Myst books to add additional background to the Myst experience. I certainly recommend all of them. I will miss the anticipation of another Myst release and will continue to hope and search for its equal in another game series.

Wish this weren't the last game

First of all - SAVE AND SAVE OFTEN. This will keep a five star game from becoming a one star game. I suppose I could have taken away a star because there are frustrating timed puzzles and the slates sometimes takes several repetitions to work, but bottom line is I really like the game. If you keep saving the game, you will save your self a lot of heartache because you won't have to go to very far back to start again when you get to one of those timed puzzles or problems with the slates. The worlds are interesting. The puzzles range from easy to difficult. The puzzles that are difficult are difficult without being stupid. Even the timed puzzles aren't that hard to do within the alloted time. Try it and enjoy.

I haven't played it yet...

but I'm sure it will be great. I've played 3 of the Myst games and loved all of them.

I really enjoy the game as it makes you think and search for clues in place one would never think possible. I have all of the Myst series and have loved all of them.

Myst will be missed...

The MYST games have been somewhat uneven in quality; games 1, 3, & 5 being decidedly "better" overall than 2 and 4. Part of this has to do with puzzle design--the puzzles in the final game are rational and not difficult, while in a couple of the games they are illogical, even with a walkthru. Related to this is the fact that the cursor motion lags behind the mouse movement by a considerable amount, leaving the cursor bobbling all over the screen. We were never able to pass the "monkey/sleeping gas" puzzle in game 4 for this reason, despite aid from a couple of walk-thrus. Nevertheless, these games are far and away the best of their genre, and we recommend them highly.

A worthy finale

I think many reviewers have been too hard on this game. Yes, it's somewhat shorter than most of the Myst games, there are a few glitches in the 3D-people rendering, etc. This might take away from the experience if one is expecting a huge blow-out finale.

But all that shouldn't take away from the fact that it is, at it's heart, a good, solid Myst game. I was happy to have new ages to wander in and solve. The new tablet-linking system gives an interesting twist to the gameplay and contributes to the cleverness of some of the puzzles. And the main story - and its solution at the end - was worthy of the last episode.

So, think of this as a short-and-sweet wrapup to the story. I think any Myst fan will enjoy it.

A fine young game...

Myst V is better than Myst IV, because although there is a "time" aspect to the puzzles, they aren't as miserably hard as those in Myst IV. Todelmer.
