This game has StarForce in it

StarForce is a malware copy protection that installs itself silently with the game. After it is installed you will most likely find that your DVD-RW drive doesn't work - it disables pretty much any means by which it might be possible to distribute copies of the game. StarForce remains on your system even after you uninstall the game. Go to http://www.glop.org/starforce/ to learn more.

In other words, just don't.

Its a shame this games uses star force I would have liked to play it, I have heard some horror stories about the program starforce and I am not buying a game that uses it. I did research on this program do not use it.

Decent Game

This game does NOT use the version of Starforce that everyone below is freaking out about. I used both Spybot Search and Destroy and searched my system registry for Starforce and found nothing. My DVD drive is working fine.

This game doesn't really need a mouse because there weapons automatically target the nearest enemy- similar to Resident Evil: Code Veronica. The graphics are very well done and game play is both spooky and fun (especially with the lighting and sound). A second person playing on a second keyboard, in my opinion, makes this game even better than Resident Evil. I only payed $6 for this game via a discount brick-and-mortar store, and am very satisfied with my purchase. I finished the game in 3 days with a friend, putting in approximately 4-5 hours of play per day.

This has to be the worst game I ever purchased. (I have over 100 games).
You cannot use your mouse. You have to use the keyboard.
Do not waste your money!!

Solid Survival Horror title

Obscure, combining a few new and interesting concepts with a proven formula delivers fun, yet linear survival horror game play.

Game play: I find myself continually trying to discover flaws in this respect and can only come up with one. The play is far too linear for a survival horror. More often than not when you discover a critical plot item it is used almost immediately afterward. This does limit the amount puzzle solving action significantly. Besides that, the combat sequences are entertaining and the item management is standard. I would have liked to have seen a resident evil style menu system as opposed to the quick menus. The 2 player mode is mostly well done but on the PC will not be utilized much. The 5 characters are cliche teen stereo-types and are completely swappable. Some of your characters can be killed off, which takes away their special talents. The consequences of losing a teen are limited though, which is unfortunate. The monsters smashing through walls is also a nice touch.

Visuals: I can't find much fault in Obscure's eye candy because it is a console port; I feel blessed enough that I get to play this game on PC. For a port though, this game delivers excellent graphics. Unfortunately there is no advanced graphic configuration but wide screen is a available. The mood and tone of the campus where your characters are stuck is exceptional. It is, as expected, dark and creepy. The cut scenes sport good cinematography and help keep your interest as well as develop plot.

Sound: The sound in Obscure is adequate. The voice acting is a bit exaggerated and over the top as scene in most games. The ambient noise is also good enough to set the mood of the game. I find the weapon effects to be somewhat fake sounding but not so much to where they are distracting.

Controls: Thankfully its not a straight port, you CAN map your controller settings for both player 1 and 2. The 2 player game play however is limited to only one Game pad so one person must use the keyboard.

Starforce: Generally if you have a problem with starforce you are doing something against the terms of service anyway.

Survival Horror fans looking for a good quality copy of a RE should look no further than Obscure. Unfortunately the game is probably only about 10 hours long for a moderately experienced gamer. Good game play is all that should matter, and obscure delivers. If you are upset about the direction that the RE team has decided to take, then look for alternatives like Obscure, can't wait for the sequel.

Good Buy

After geting passed the whole Starforce problem (Which took me longer then I thought) I finally got the game to work, its a great game kind of like a chessy horror movie. It has puzzles and you wont get board. I was happy to set the game up so it played though the ps2 controller. I would recommend though if you have problems with starforce then just either put a crack over it which is legal if you got the game. (AND I HOPE YOU DO BEFORE APPLING IT ON!) or get the PS2 or XBOX version and enjoy. PS Its fun if you got a friend that wants too play with you so you can work together
