Not for the serious game players

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 7 / 7

If you are after a solid challenging game, then this is not for you. However, if you want something simple to waste time, then this game is ok.

It is old style shooter where new things keep poping up and they get harder to hit as time moves on.

Get the current patches! The graphics improve. However, there is still a system crash bug after the 20th level. There are also a couple bugs where there is a "magic portal" in the sky the planes use to reappear behind you. Annoying....

Again, if you are an advanced game player you probably will not like this game.

An arcade game.

If you view this as a simple arcade time wasting game then it is ok. If you are looking for a serious game then it is not for you.

You man the AA guns on a ship and shoot at attacking planes. At first they are easy then they start dodging more.

It is unrealistic as the planes stay till they are shot down. You can shoot friendly ships they look like they are taking damage but it doesn't seem to matter.

The graphics are a little old. Get the patch as it makes the graphics better.

Other then that as I said it is an ok time wasting game.

GREAT GAME ALERT!

This is a superb game! Other reviewers hate it because of it's simple play. But that is an advantage to new computer users. It only uses about 8 number keys and your mouse. Nice graphics for the time it was made. Okay, So there are disadvantages like in the game there are kamakazies in 1941. But still, My dad's (who is not one for computers!) only computer game he likes is this, Pearl Harbor: Defend the Fleet. If your thinking of buying it, DO IT! DEFENINTLY!

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME

The purpose of a review is to provide details or an opinion of a piece of hardware, software or any other item not to influence someone's buying decision. It is simply unfair to slam a game simply because you do not like it. So basically I will give my objective take. I was attracted to the concept of manning the guns to combat an enemy onslaught. I found the game installed at a Compusa ready for play and decided to give it a whirl. There was no learning curve and the waves were entirely too easy even at the hard settings. The game resembled a shooting gallery and objects appeared to be there simply for you shooting pleasure. The graphics were substandard and the enemy planes seemed to lack an objective other than to fly around and wait to be shot down. As the levels progressed, more powerful guns became available and the focus of my gameplay was not on survival but how much ammo I could save and wether or not I was going to get the gattling gun. In many cases leading of targets was useless proving a lack of physics and the addition of the subs made it even more trivial. Silly as it may seem I was actually interested in playing the game until someonecame to my rescue and asked if they could try it. I quickly handed it over and even though it was on level 15 he had no problem picking up where I left off. The lack of challenge made me decide to pass on the purchase, however I find myself wanting to play the game but not willing to spend the $19.99 to buy it. There are no dramatic effects when something is shot down or destroyed, so the sheer destructive feeling you long for in a game of this genre is lacking. The ultimate decision is up to you, as each individual is drawn to certain aspects of every game. It is only fair to offer my experience and allow the facts to do the rest. [....]

DO NOT BUY! REPEAT DO NOT BUY!

THIS GAME IS AN EMBARASSMENT TO THE US ARMED FORCES AND ANY FORMER MEMBER. ALL YOU DO IN THIS GAME IS SHOOT AT ENDLESS AMOUTS OF ZEROS AND KATES UNTIL THE COMMANDER TELLS YOU YOUR MISSION IS COMPLETE. THEN THAT IS REPEATED ABOUT 20 TIMES. ALL THE SHIPS SEEM TO SINK EXCEPT YOURS , WHICH REMAINS SPOTLESS AND UNTOUCHED. IT SAYS YOU ARE SENT TO DIFFERENT AREAS, BUT THEY ARE ALL THE SAME NETHERLESS, BUT JUST WITH EVEN MORE ZEROS THAT DONT EVEN EXPLODE WHEN BLOWN UP. THEY 'MAGICALLY' DISSAPEAR INTO THIN AIR. IM JUST A TEENAGER, BUT I EVEN KNOW THAT THIS PIECE OF JUNK ISNT WORTH THE PACKAGING OR THE TITLE OF A COMPUTER GAME ITSELF. I PITY THE PEOPLE WHO MADE THIS BECAUSE IF THIS IS WHAT GAMES ARE GONNA BE LIKE FROM THIS COMPANY, THEY ARE IN DEEP DOO-DOO...

It's not as fun as it looks....

when you first play this game, it's a little bit fun. but when you play it a little more than a bit, it gets very dull and boring. the graphics are poor and i dont really like the object of the game: to shoot endless amounts of planes until the commander guy tells you to stop.

Great game, VERY, VERY hard to install

I've played this game at a friends house and it rocked! It was the coolest game! It was very realistic, putting you in the main gunners point of veiw. So, I went out and bought it. When I tried to install it, though, it didn't work. I tried it over and over, but it says it needs something called directX8 to run. Great game, but if you don't have directX8, your out of luck.

Good... for the first thirty minutes

Defend the fleet is a TERRIBLE game. For the first thirty minutes, its pretty cool, shooting down all the airplanes. But then, as you get farther and farther in the levels, they are the same as the first one, and you cant even save a game. The GRAPHICS are TERRIBLE, and it is not realistic at all. I do not recommend this game at all, and i hope no one wastes their money on this game like i did.

3dfx card owners, avoid this title!!!...

The Premise of this game is decent, a quick easy action title like Beachhead 2000 & B-17 Gunner also made by Wizardworks/ Infogrames. But if you have a 3dfx card in your system like most of you still do, since 3dfx has been dead only for a couple months, the graphics are ugly and extremely pixelated. Basically the game doesn't look like it does on the box. Infogrames tech support told me after E-mailing them to either return the game or invest in a Nvidia GeForce card, a 3dfx patch is not in the future for DTFPH. Now honestly, who is with any sense is going to spend $150 on a video card for a $20 game that will get old and extremely repetitive like Beachhead 2000 in a month!!!...
