PSO for the GameCube has vast improvements compared to the Dreamcast version. All the rare weapons in this game have been given a new look, since the Dreamcast version's rare weapons looked exacly the same as the normal weapons. Unlike the Dreamcast PSO v2, The Gamecube version actualy has a sequel to the first PSO, and lets you explore more of the planet Ragol and finish your mission of finding Red Ring Rico. New chat capabilities, you can hold more guild cards, and the online lobbies are diverse. Expect a great experience with PSO

I have never played a more innovative online game, offline is also really good too, especially now that there is multiplayer, it makes the game a whole lot better. I give graphics a 10, i have never seen better graphics for a online game, EVER. Most online games have big lags or the graphics really are blocky. This game uses smooth graphics and few blocks, and with custimizeable characters with a lot of detalil it makes me even more impressed. I played the first one for over 130 hours, all offline, and now that there is a multiplayer offline, it makes it a whole lot better for people who don't like to pay to play. So it just makes it even better. So I highly recommend this game to anyone who likes good RPGs.

Phantasy star online is by far one of the best games I have ever seen for the Gamecube. The game itself if very addictive and very fun. Although playing online may be costly[49.99 for game, 39.99 for internet adaptor, ? for keyboard(Maybe a future feature for games)] it is well worth the money. Also to keep the game so that it never gets boring(I dont think it will anyways) they may release different weapons and other things for the players online(somethings such as special weapons can only be gotten on the internet). This is one of the games that will never get boring to any player if you ask me.THIS GAME IS A MUST HAVE.

How could you?

AS I read more and more of these reviews i see people giving it a low-rating becuase of the dreamcast version, there are 2 totally different games with different atributes. Its like saying a penny is the same as a 100 dollar bill. its not! I have indeed played the japanese version of this game it is very cool. Much different and better than the first. You explore more worlds, have more classes to pick from, new weapons, and the graphics are so much better, especially in the beach stages the water and the sky look real, this game is definately one of the best i have ever played, keep in mind if you are going to rate a game, make sure you have played it first, i'm sure if every oen who has rated it had played it the game would have a perfect 5 out of 5 star rating, yes it is that good!

This is an awessome game dude I really mean awesome. it has all any hardcore RPG gamer ever wished for.Its battle system is very good the real time movements are more than cool. The multiplayer mode is so sweet,to bad they didnt launch the modem yet or at least way down here in Brazil. The only defects in this game are a feww little autocamera problem of which can be esily fixed manualy. This game is so UNREALY COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!

General Overview

This game is. . . well to be honest, expansive. There are about, oh, 12 basic weapons give or take. Then you have four more powerful versions of that weapon. Then you get into the legendary weapons, which there are quite a few of. There are a dozen characters each of which can be customized. The human/newman characters have 18 different outfits. The android characters each have 25 metal/paint stylings. There are, I'm going to say again, 12 different levels in Episode 1. I cannot tell you how many there are in the second, seeing as I have not yet completed it.
There is also an interesting unit which hovers above your shoulder, known as a MAG. When it first evolves it will change depending on your class. So there are only three evolutions at first, but then it becomes a whole lot more complex.

One of the Top 5 games for the GC

One of the best, longest games on the gamecube. You start into the game as a Hunter, Force, or Ranger at lv 1 with basic items. There is more specific clases like RAmar and HUcast (ranger human male and hunter android male respectively) which limit you what items you get and what your beginning stats are. For example HUcast's have regenerating HP and the most ATK but the least amount of accuracy compared to the other classes. You get experience for killing monsters and when you get enough exp. you level up. You can get up to level 200, that is the highest in any game that i know of. When you level up your stats increase until they are maxed out.

The point of the game after you beat the story on all 4 difficulties (normal, hard, very hard, and ultimate) is to collect all of the many rares and special items this game has (well over 250). This game has a GREAT replay value and also is the only game online for the gamecube (other than warppipe compatible games: www.warppipe.com for more information). I would recommend adding this to your library of games.

Good game, limited appeal.

Originaly, this was one of my favorite all time games, largely due to the excellent online experience this game offered at one time...
Since there has been a lack of enthusiasm on Nintendo's part on promoting this game or the onling experience, there has sadly been a great loss of participants and this cripples the game's appeal quite a bit. Although it can be played offline, it still suffers because it is not an RPG in the traditional sense...Instead of moving through an epic story line and leveling your character to ultimatley bring the story to an end, you will move through a very small, finite story, to ultimatly beat a boss, and then go through the same thing several times to level your character to 200 and hopefully collect some of the rare and unique weapons or items in the game. It is this repetition of the scenarios that the online version would make acceptable and enjoyable. Indeed, bringing down a great foe after a long fight along side 3 other live team-mates is a wonderfull thing, as the multitude of personalities shine through the toon-like characters of the game. The once abundant gathering of charactes in the lobbies was a lively and ever changing place and it highly promoted the finding of rare items to trade, or simply to show off during battle.
That being said, I regret to say that I cannot at this time recommend this game. It is unique, and interesting, but offline play seems shallow and repetitive, even monotonous when you go it alone. You can play with others offline, but I find the smaller divided screen difficult to get your bearings and just less enjoyable.
I can say this game is ok solo the first time through. However, without the active online play, there is just not enough motivation to reapeat the process over and over again. Originally this was a five star game. Sadly I have to bring it down to 3 stars. Its still good, but very limited.

Get it While you can or Get PSO plus when it comes out!!!!!!

This Game rocks!!!!!!!!!!!! Buy it as soon as possible! Some people say that its boring and while the levels get slightly repetetive the greater the level or the more you play through a level the more you will find. It starts of at normal difficulty and you can unlock hard, very hard, and ULTIMATE! The incentive for playing to ultimate is that there are over 250 unique items that are all accesible to find in ultimate!!! The items are so different looking that you kind of want to get all the items in the game. There are three classes force, ranger (THE BEST), and hunter. I have played this game extensively and still sadly have not gotten online but I know from friends that it is utterly amazing with new quests and items and mini-games!! Its totally worth $9 a month! Buy it while you can! I would give it 100 of 100 stars but it doesn't go that high!!!! Hope this helps. PSO ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
