Does not work on Windows XP

Enough said. It used to be fun on Win98.

Great Word Game!

I have had this CD for about a year and still never tire of it. It has enhanced my vocabulary immeasurably! I really only play the "Master Boggle" instead of the reagular 3-letter Boggle. Some of the other options are very interesting to play. I like it so much, I'm ordering another to keep at the office (shhh, don't tell my boss!) Well worth the minimal cost for some brain-working fun!

A great way to enjoy a favorite game!

As a fan of Boggle, I was overjoyed to find this computer version so I could play against the computer. I like being able to use the Master Boggle board (25 cubes) for an added challenge. You can set the level of difficulty by choosing the ability level of your opponent.

I have three criticisms about the program: 1. The list of allowable words has some words that no one in their right mind would know. The program provides definitions for most words, but not for these obscure words...and the words you need definitions for are the obscure ones! 2. Mr. Boggle (the computer expert) comes up with all the obscure words; and 3. If you make two computer opponents with the same skill level, they list all the same words and therefore cancel each other out. It's an easy way to win, but it seems like an oversight on the part of the manufacturer.

I don't enjoy the 4 variations quite as much as the original, but they are interesting to try.

Fun for Wordmeisters

I've had a lot of fun with this game, though admittedly, I have not used it for more than just solitary "Boggling". I started out playing Classic Boggle, and was having fun with that til I discovered "In Your Face Boggle"! This is infinitely more challenging, as the cubes are coming up at you as if they were in a well rising to the top, and you are looking down at them from the top. You form as many words as you can before any of them reach the very "top", thus timing you out. I have the most fun just trying to beat my own best score.

There are 3 other variations also, besides the two I've mentioned. I've tried them all, and each one is unique. Way beyond the "Boggle in a Box" that you've known for years!

This CD also allows you to play against other players remotely, by modem or network, though I have not tried that yet.

My biggest complaint about this game is the frequency with which it crashes. Now, that is an exercise in frustration! That being said, I would still buy it again though. I've had many hours of fun with it!

a timeless game

Boggle is a wonderful game that sees action year after year, even after a multitude of other games have been purchased. Yes, there are words with no definitions, but you do not need to know the definition in order to get the points for the word. (Just learn to spell it correctly!) And usually those words are the ones that no one else gets. : ) You can play regular boggle or master boggle and set the time for one minute up to five minutes rounds. You can add your own words to the dictionary. Play solo or up to three other people. The Master Boggle computer player always gets the top 35 or so words, so look out! Only wish there were more people able to play at the same time and maybe team play (2 vs. 2). The other four variations are nice, but are only for two players.

A real shame

It is my belief that some years ago a number of Hasbro executives met in a room and decided to cash in on their highly recognized board game titles by computerizing them. This could have led to definitive, high quality software versions of games like Boggle. Instead we have a game with ridiculous and chintzy graphic effects that do nothing for gameplay, an array of absurd "sub-games," and, most importantly, a software product that does not seem to get updated/patched.

The game is playable (at least on some versions of Windows), and playing opponents on the internet is perhaps its strongest selling point. However, the release of this product also brought a wave of legal action against existing rogue Boggle-like sites ...The result, unfortunately, probably did more to hurt the Boggle community than help, as most rogue sites, in addition to being free and platform independent, were also responsive to user requests and are now largely shut down.

Hasbro is depending on market-share and market-reach to sell this game. I recommend holding them to a higher standard and not buying the computer version of it.

I made the error of not checking the system requirements and this game does not translate to Windows ME.

Boggle Addict!

I have fancied myself a good Boggle player since I was introduced to the original game more than 20 years ago ... It's been difficult to find people willing to play with me! (: I purchased the CD early this year, and now play it regularly over the internet (at www.zone.com/boggle - you do need to have the CD to play there) - and it's often a humbling experience! They also regularly have tournaments at that site which are a lot of fun. You can also become "ranked" as a ladder player if you wish (at www.igl.net/zboggle). I don't know what it is about this game, but I could play it every day without tiring of it. Getting to "meet" other players of all skill levels has been great as well. It's also fun just to play against the computer, which has several skill levels to challenge you. There are a number of variations on the original game (BreakAway, Battle, Space, and In Your Face), but to me the Classic Master is the best.

A Great Buy

Contrary to the previous review of this product, it DOES work with Windows ME. My computer has the ME platform, and Boggle works with it.

Never have I played a ten dollar game that is so addictive. The computer game goes beyond the traditional format we all know and love to include " Boggle Battle", "In Your Face", and several other Boggle games as well as the classic version. Each game has the "classic" and "master" options, the master level being considerably harder than the classic mode.

I would even dare to say that the computer version is better than the plastic cube version because there is no shaking and little sand hourglasses to worry about. Each and every version of Boggle on the CD is very fun, In Your Face being my personal favorite.

My only complaints when it comes to this game is that the animations are horribly choppy, even on my computer, which is a fairly fast machine. I also noted that the built-in dictionary used to accept words that you find neglected to accept some of the most common English words. (I had to manually enter them into the "user dictionary.")

But all in all, Boggle is probably one of the biggest values in the computer game world right now.

Incredibly addictive puzzle game

This game is a terrific way to while away a few minutes. It installs on your hard drive so that the CD does not have to be in the drive to play the basic game--just click, and start hunting for words. See if you can find more than the computer opponents. I have no complaints about this computer implementation (though I've never tried to play against another person, and I mostly stick with the basic game (Master version) rather than the special variations that are included); it's easy to use and fun to play, and I've more than gotten my money's worth.
