Camera and controls are the real monsters here...

Remember Indiana Jones, TombRaider AOD and Catwoman? Remember how frustrating it was to play because of the camera? Welcome Back! This one's a little easier, in that you can press down on the right mouse button and get a cam view just over your character's shoulder. But, he moves clumsily, you depress the space key to make him run, but does he? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. My hands are cramping from jamming the space key. But the biggest drawback is the saves. Jesus, somebody tell me WHY these game designers NEVER listen to the gamers. I'm a little over halfway done with the game and I've played the level I'm on repeatedly for a good 30-40 times already. Mostly because the character moves so awkwardly and because of the camera. My neighbors are starting to complain... He doesn't move swiftly from side to side and makes it difficult to dodge the big alien life forms...But the most inufriating part of this game is the saves. Oh sure, you CAN save, once you get to the given save point. If you die before that, you can count on repeating long, drawn out actions like going back a long, long distance to rearm. AGAIN, as with the previous games I mentioned, you can't save when you get to a difficult spot and after you repeat parts of the level a few dozen times, you might share my frustration. The graphics are excellent. I'll give it that. It's also somewhat spooky. I like that too. In the beginning, when you're on the freighter, there's a map in the game guide to help you a little. But, there's NO map for the oil rig, so you can run all over the rig trying to find the right way to go indefinitely... Difficulty is ok, so long as you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure things out. I was lost for a fair part of this game, stumbling into the right path just by luck. It's a difficult game at the upper levels, but mostly because you don't really know what you're doing or what is expected of you. I couldn't give this game 5 stars because there was just too much difficulty with the camera and controls, and of course, the saves. Is it worth the money? I guess I'd have to say, I wish I had waited and purchased it used. For $5-10 bucks, it's not so bad. But at $19.95, I think I got ripped a bit. Buy a used copy. You'll thank me for it later. VERY disappointing

This game's graphics are quite good, and the action taking place on a rolling, wind & ocean swept freighter is novel. However, this game is completely ruined by the inability to move your character around via the mouse (you have to use the keyboard!) -- which means your character is moving around as if he were a main battle tank. And most of the action takes place in third person viewpoint, along with a moving camera at your back or your side. Painfully annoying!
There are also no maps in the game, so expect to re-tread old ground a lot.
You cannot save the game when and where you want -- and there are only so many save slots when you are actually permitted to save.
The game is rather short, but you won't really care about that, because most people will not even wish to finish Cold Fear.
This is one of those very poor ports from a game console, where the developers didn't care to get it right for the PC. They just didn't care at all...
