One of a kind experience

This game is one of the most innovative software titles I've installed on my computer in a long time. It packs in so much. What other simulation out there gives you 7 different platforms in 1 game? In Dangerous Waters, you get a Seawolf sub, an LA sub, Kilo sub, Akula sub, Perry class Missile frigate, the P-3 sub-hunting aircraft, and MH-60 helo in one game. All as playables. You can battle below the seas, on the seas, or high above the seas. For the amount of money you pay, you basically get 7 different sims. And with 7 different sims in 1, you'll get lots of playability. I've been playing it for a few months and have gotten my moneys worth and more.

And what an incredible experience you get. I've always wondered what it would be like to sneak up on and destroy Russian or Chinese naval units in a nuke sub, and with DW, I get my chance without joining the Navy. It's also alot of fun defending yourself against incoming missiles in the Frigate, and turning around and destroying the enemy ships with your Harpoons and Standard missiles.

The software runs very smoothly on my system and is scalable. The graphics are done very nicely with excellent bump-mapped textures giving the ocean waves a realistic look. The naval ship models all look true to form. My only 1 minor complaint is that there are a few models that are not accurately modeled. But it doesn't take anything away from the experience of naval warfare. Still, most of the models look very good. And game audio is also well done.

For those of you looking for an interesting simulation experience, DW is for you. I give this sim 5 stars and highly recommend it. I think another reviewer stated this sim is "naval combat at its best". I totally agree.

The BEST there is! Modern naval action at it's finest.

Dangerous Waters is by far the best naval sim out there. After installing this title on my hard drive, I was instantly impressed by the amount of stuff the whole package offers. Jump into a Guided Missile Frigate and experience the world of surface action. Or jump into a deadly Russian Akula nuclear attack submarine and hunt down a USN carrier battle group. If you're into high-tech underwater warfare, you can command the lethal American Seawolf nuclear submarine, to destroy those pesky Akulas. For another twist, launch Tomahawk Missiles against land-targets out of your American 688(I) submarine. There is also a modern diesel submarine in the package for action near coastal waters. For you aviation lovers out there, you can fly air assets such as the P-3 Orion & MH-60 helos to hunt down submarines or fly tasks in conjunction with the FFG. Multi-play in this sim gives so many options. From within these platforms, you can choose to operate the systems yourself, or you can play from a "top-down" commanders perspective by assigning auto-crew to these stations. Both modes of play are very rewarding and alot of fun.

This game is very smooth and configurable to your level of equipment. It works very well on my system. Water textures look great. Sound effects are great. Immersion is intense. And this game gives you the feeling of really being there. When you combine these aspects, you really get a fun experience.

Bottom line, for those of you out there that may like to experience modern naval warfare, this is the sim for you. I highly recommend it.

Most realistic Navy Sim I've ever played!

This game is great if you like the detail it offers - I'm a Navy Submarine Officer and this game truly captures the essence of fighting a war on different platforms. Not for the young or easily board due to all the detail, but the game keeps you engaged with so much variety. I'm surprised at what is apparently "unclassified" - this game really shows you a lot.

Naval Combat At Its Best

Dangerous Waters is the latest sim title from Sonalysts Combat Simulations. It combines modern submarine combat with air and ship based anti-submarine warfare in one amazing package. The player has the choice of 8 submarines (Improved Los Angeles, Seawolf, Akula I-Improved, Akula II, Kilo and Kilo Improved in both Russian and Chinese versions), 1 helicopter (MH-60 Seahawk), 1 aircraft (P-3C Orion) and 1 surface ship (Oliver Hazard Perry Guided Missile Frigate). All of these platforms can be used cooperatively, competitively or by them selves inside one huge battlefield- then entire world's oceans!

Each platform's interface has been crafted with an eye for detail. The controls on the Kilo and Akula really look like they are from a Russian submarine! The US platforms are just as well crafted, the first time you `dive' the Seawolf you will feel like you've comprised national security!

The stuff behind the scenes is just as impressive. The modeling of Sonar systems is downright amazing, temperatures, target aspect and the weather all effect performance just as it would in real life.

The mission editor is one of the most fantastic things about this sim. Players have been given the same thing the creators use. With both a simple to learn and use but powerful doctrine language and scripting language mission designers can do some very amazing stuff. Even now almost a year after the release of the sim mission designers are still discovering new stuff that can be done with this engine.

Although directly out of the box some things aren't 100% realistic, the modding community has done some fantastic work in a very short time. Already you can get some improved ship models, better realism in regards to AI behavior and long-range sonar performance along with some very well done graphics mods (the Russian sub interface in Cyrillic is one of my favorites).

In the end you are getting one of the most in-depth and versatile naval simulation experiences around from one of the most experienced and friendly companies around. Also there is [...] whose Dangerous Waters community has an amazing amount of knowledge and experience (not just with the game but with real life submarines!) and is always willing to help new gamers.

Tactical Naval Combat Simulation

This game is a blast. People who have played Sub Command (written by the same company) will feel immeditaly at home in the Nuclear Subs. But there is so much more to it. Dangerous Waters offers not only control of Nuclear Submarines (Los Angeles, Seawolf and Akula Class - the latter a Russian Design) but you can take command of a Oliver Hazard Perry Guided Missile Frigate, a Lockheed P-3C Orion, a MH-60R LAMPS Helicopter (which can use the Frigate as Base and work closely with it) and a for a first time, a Russian Kilo Submarine.

This game takes Antisubmarine Warfare (ASW) to a whole new level. Now it is not only Submarine vs. Submarine in a Human vs. Human match, but you can do ASW on all three levels. Imagine one or two Akulas hunted by a OHP Frigate, in conjunction with a Helo and P-3C Orion and stalked by a Seawolf Class submarine. You don't need to imagine, just buy the game and play. Which brings me to the most interesting part of this game, the Multiplayer part. You can play missions with other humans in an adversarial style (means Human vs. Human), you can play coop (Human vs. PC) or and this is a new one man any of the plattforms TOGETHER with your friends. Yes that is correct, you can play any plattform, for example the Seawolf submarine together with someone else on the LAN or Internet in MultiStation mode. You think you are overworked handling the submarine alone, call in some help and share the work. Drive the boat while your friend(s) handle the rest of the work.

Bottom line, this is a must have and a definitive classic. With the included missions/campaign and the ones available on the internet you will be busy for some time to come. And when you are done with all of them, start up the included, very easy to use mission editor and make your own.

Remember 688 Attack Sub?

Dangerous Waters is like getting a huge upgrade of an older game called 688 Attack Sub. But Dangerous Waters has more weapons platforms to play, more varied missions, more options, and more control. You can save mid mission. It's great on a laptop or PC. It also installs fully so you don't have to tote the CD around. The options are very friendly. You can make the game as playable as you like. Don't expect flight sim type control with the helo or orion. They control much like the ship or subs. Pick you course and altitude and away you go. There is a large selection of weapons to load each platform with depending on mission parameters. Get it. It's great stealth action and a thinking persons game.

One of the first games in which you can control air, surface, and submarine platforms. Very high level of detail, has some interesting and innovative features (especially in multi-player which gives you the ability to team up with other players and work as a team on the SAME platform).

Highly rated by the gaming media (if you'd like a second opinion):

Excellent Simulation

Full disclosure: I used to work at Sonalysts (10 years ago, now) and know some of the people involved in creating this sim. I also have a bias against games that "simulate" some things -- such as "Golden Tee," the golf game -- in which the motions one executes in the game are nothing like those executed in the actual activity being "simulated." And lastly, naval warfare lends itself to simulation because of the systems used. All that being said, this game gives as close to a feel of actually conducting naval operations as one can get without getting seasick. Very well done.

fun? what fun?!

I would like to let you know who ever is looking at this product of buy it, well dont, you have to take a college level course just to understand how to use this "game", is more suited toward comanders that want to horn there skills, hence simulation, it is indeed a watered down simulation, military simulations, that is the real thing are not supposed to be fun, there supposed to streach your limitations on the job that you do in the military, not to many fun times in the miliary but who knows this may be the "game" for you, I gave it way after spending to much time trying to figure out how to what ever this "game" is supposed to do. and remember the front cover picture of this game is just that, its a front cover picture not what it looks like in reality. Yea do as you wish, wast some money on this thing, for thats what your doing
