A Naughty, Absorbing Good Time

I have now played this game once all the way through and am about halfway through a new one, so I feel well equipped to write a review. The game starts off by letting you pick your main character, who is always female. You are stuck with a teenage son and husband for which there are few customizing options. The game itself is played in 12 episodes. Each episode begins and ends with an animated little skit depending on what the episode will be about, and based on the choices you made.

The gameplay itself is fun - you have a choice of interacting with all of the characters on the street including the original DH characters, plus the Mailman, gardener, etc. You can talk to them, seduce them, slap them, kiss them, etc. Each episode plays out based on the choices you make while accomplishing the tasks.

The voiceovers are decent - some better than others. Unfortunately once you pass the game, you have to start over because there is only one story line in the game for you and your family.

The good parts of the game: the sometimes naughty and hilarious antics of the characters; the cooking mini game is really fun and a bit challenging once you get up to the Culinary Artist category. Now the bad: the game itself is very memory-hogging; the game has frozen my computer a few times and often gets stuck for a minute. The episode skits literally take 10 minutes to load. Things aren't always consistent, either. For instance, you can break into every house on the block and get caught, and the characters will act like nothing happened the next time they see you. (No relationship loss, etc). When you slap a person it doesn't affect your relationship at all either.

Overall, however, this game is super fun and addictive. Just make sure you have a computer with plenty of memory, and some patience to wait between episodes!

Fantastic!

The Desperate Housewives game is very fun actually. Even people who don't know the show will still enjoy this game. Or fans of the Sims will like this except this game may even be better. Basically, you are a new housewife on Whisteria Lane with your husband and son. You go through the game solving your own life's mystery and helping the other people. There are also cooking and gardening mini games that are very fun.In gardening, u kill the bugs, water, and weed when you plant new plants. It is much funner that it sounds. In cooking, you stir, chop, and mix ingrediants to feed to your family. Im a guy and i still find the game enjoyable. So the male audience will appreciate the game too because you can slap the other housewives and sneak and steal stuff from the people. The woman will like it because you can seduce Mike Delphino, Carlos, Tom, and many other characters including the mailman. There is also a romantic part to the game. But i like the "episodes" in the game where it is set up like the real show solving the mysteries and uncovering the truth behind this secret place. Nothing is really wrong with this game except the graphics could be better but they are still very good. And at $20, this is a game that almost everyone can and should own. This is a must have game that doesn't dissapoint at all!

So Addicting !!!

from the moment i installed this game i have been addicted the story lines are great and to be involed in the story and to start of with a secret of my own..
the only bad thing about this game is when you make your family you dont have a major choice of people to choose from and you cant pick if you want a boy or a girl.. you just get a boy and you have to be married...
but dont let that discourage you from buying the game thats only a minor setback..
when i play the game i get lost in it and time flies by, i actually catch myself laughing and some of these characters and the things they say...
like i said its very addicting and deliciously fun!!
dont miss out on this get... go buy it today!!

So Much Fun!

I had such a good time playing this game. It's almost better than the show because YOU, the audience member, are now part of the show. Not only is it fun to garden, decorate, cook, clean and shop during the game, but it's sooooo much fun watching the mystery that surrounds YOUR character unfold. I think my jaw literally dropped a few times throughout the progress of the game. I was addicted to it from the start, playing it for so many hours at a time that it only took me a few days to complete. I wish there was more than one story to play out, but that didn't stop me from starting it over right after finishing it the 1st time. It can continue to be new although the story isn't because you can choose to say different things and do different things. They have green goals and blue goals: the green goals are suggested, but aren't necessary to continue on to the next episode, unlike the blue goals. The second time around I decided to complete all my green goals before the blue ones because you don't get a chance to act out the green ones after you complete the last blue one for that episode, and I wanted to do as mush as I could. Even when it seems like you have time restrictions to get certain things done, take your time overall. The game even stops time for you at one point in order for you to complete your goals in time. And even when it doesn't, it'll pop up hints for you to get a move on certain things. Definitely look at your map of the houses; it often helps you along by putting a red "X" on someone's house, suggesting that's where you could be finding out something or maybe should be doing something there. Also, read all your goals in detail; they often reveal more leads for you along the way. Anyway, I can't wait for another one of these games to come out.

Must pass ALL requirements!

Well the game sure looks like a lot of fun....
but unfortunately I haven't had the chance to try it out. If you are planning to buy this game PLEASE make sure your computer will pass all the "minimal" requirements (meaning if your computer fails just ONE of the tests the game won't work until you fix whatever needs to be fixed) It's most likely going to be your video card/ video acceleration. That's the problems I had with it.

In order for this game to run on your computer you have to have a compatible video card; and for some odd reason there are only a few that will work. Hopefully you'll get lucky enough to have one of the few computer's that already have a stock video card that supports the game. If not, each card ranges from at least $150-$400 if you were planning on buying one...which I had not been. Nor should I have to.

Anyway, I don't know what they were thinking when they made this game's installation process. I doubt people want to get home from buying the game... then spend all night trying to get it to work. Not everyone is going to have the fastest or most updated computer (or in this case, video card) in the world.
I guess it is a bit unfair of me to give this game only one star since I haven't played it yet...... but I think the crap that this game puts you through JUST to play? is enough to warrant the one star.

I'm pretty sure I'll love this game once I get it up and running, but for now I defintely don't recommend it. Especially to those who know they'll have installation requirement problems. But if you have no doubt that your computer will install this game, go for it.... then let me know how it is!

Good but short

I loved playing this game, but the story line is short. The only thing left to do after you finish the story is to start over, but maybe play the story line differently. Beside that, this game is very interesting.

Addictive and Interesting!

First off, let me say that I have only seen maybe 2 episodes of the TV Show. The main reason I got this game was because I read a review in PC Gamer that praised it -- it said the game was fun and interesting for the price.

That said, I have played through 12 episodes of my family (completed), and I love this game! Overall, I must have spent 15 hours or more playing through 12 episodes. The story was complex -- it kept me interested without revealing itself completely; it worked much like a mystery. I must say, it kept me guessing right to the very end!

The sound was quite good. I enjoyed the music, and the voices were decent. The sound effects were pretty neutral so that they didn't become annoying (like in some games).

The graphics were okay. I would have liked to be able to zoom in a bit more, but otherwise I thought there was a good amount of detail to the graphics. I read that a few of you were having trouble with the game crashing your computer. I'll admit, it did freeze at times for 2-3 seconds for me, but that wasn't so bad. I didn't really mind it, and it didn't cause any trouble to my computer. If it helps, I am running a 2.2 GHz dual-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, and a 256MB NVIDIA 7900 GTX.

My one complaint is that I would have liked to keep playing the family I created. Once you have completed the game, there is nothing you can do but re-play the last episode or start from scratch. I suggest saving to a separate file somewhere in the middle of the game, so that you can revisit the freer part of the game (where you can go out and about, since the last episode doesn't leave much room for messing around).

Some things you get to do in the game are unlike anything I have ever done in a game, although this is really my first time out of the fantasy MMO genre in terms of PC games. You start off by customizing your character (female 30- or 40-something housewife who looks in her 20s), your husband, your teenage son, and your home. Once you've done all that, there are mini-games available to you like Cooking, Gardening, and Texas Hold'em. You spend most of your time trying to achieve primary goals or optional goals set out in your list, but you are relatively free to play the mini-games, go shopping, "chat" to boost relationship levels, "seduce" your husband (or others, if you're feeling naughty!), tidy up the house, and even sneak into other people's homes (and pawn their things)! This made for quite an interesting game... and on top of that, you get a popular fashion designer in your neighborhood, a housewife in the NRA, a "femme fatale" of the business world, the arrival of mob bosses, and a huge web of romantic melodrama that your son gets involved in. Not to mention a mountain of secrets that pertain to your past or your neighbors'.

I have to say, it was the best game I have ever gotten for $20. It was worth playing through at least once, and I can see playing through it again sometime. I recommend it to anyone with an interest in romantic mystery and gossip who's looking to occupy themselves for a few days at a time, since for the past 3 days, I've spent 5 hours or more playing.

this is a juicy fun game

Problems With Installing

I just bought the Desperate Housewives game and was pretty excited to play it. When I went to install it, it said that my system did not meet some of the requirements. Therefore, I am not sure how fun this game is, anyhow, I then looked up some information to find that tons of other people are having the same exact problem as me. I called the company that made the game and they did offer to replace the game because I cannot play it. The person was very helpful and walked me through some simple steps to see why the game couldn't play. The reason is, is that it is because I have a Laptop and he told me that you cannot update the video cards on laptops like you can on desktops. So needless to say, I can't play this game, but my husband and I have been wanting to get a desktop for a while now. I suggest if anyone else is having the same problem as me to call (1-800-228-0988) and press #9 twice to be able to talk to a representative right away that can help you.

So full of bugs it can't be played

When I first got this game I played it for a short time twice, I couldn't understand why anyone would play, so gave up. I decided to give it another go and found it slightly interesting. It does run on my computer, which is lucky compared to other reviewers who can't run it at all I suppose, except I have run in to so many bugs in the program I can't play it anyway.

Basically you are a housewife and you have a Husband and Son. My family has disappeared, could have been my cooking? People are stuck all over the place. Susan has melded in to her Daughter, I can talk to the Daughter but not Susan (unfortunately talking to Susan is one of the challenges so I can't get past level 2). The caterer is stuck in the chair in the dining room and my character is now stuck in front of the stove. I tried starting a new game and now have a woman stuck in my front yard, Lynette is stuck in Susan's front yard and Susan is stuck in her house but isn't really there.

When I say 'stuck' I mean the characters never move, although I can interact with all of them except Susan.

Anyway, it's too bad they didn't get it right, bugs bugs bugs!

I've played the Sims a lot, this game doesn't even deserve to be anywhere near it, the Sims are so smooth compared to this.

Footnote: I added a Wiki entry at the bottom of the main product page and listed the system specifications given on the package, for those of you who are thinking of buying this (good luck!).

Also for those of you who can't run it and are wondering what type of video card might be required, we have a GeForce 6200 - which cost us about $100 (in Canada).
