Everest: Exciting and Adrenalin-Pumping!!! A Classic!!!

This is a terrific game. Use various teams and guide them to the top of Mt. Everest in Nepal. Face many challenges and endeavors that will keep you on the edge of your seat. If you're looking for a good time, buy Everest. I consider myself a conservative game-rater, but I loved this one. A must-buy!!!

Into Thin Software

The graphics in Everest are really very good, but that is in fact the only good thing to be said about this game. Now i'll say the rest: [1] Its pace is very VERY slow, which might be OK, except... [2] There's no way to SAVE your current game, except to return to base camp! [3] There's no clock, so there's no orientation to how long the current day's climb has taken. [4] Once you leave base camp, there's no map available, so there's no orientation to the mountain or to progress toward the next camp. [5] The different climber characters each have a total volcabulary of about 8 phrases, which quickly become tedious. [6] Each time you pass certain points, a helpful video appears to warn the novice what to watch for. Which is fine the FIRST time, but each subsequent game there's no way to interrupt it - you must wait thru the whole thing. [7] After an hour spent slogging up the ice fall, one comes to 4 flags stuck in the snow. Moving to the center of this area trips a video which informs you that, darn, the ladder-bridge has been wiped out, so, darn, you'll just have to return to basecamp and start over. (Which is bad enough, but if you DON'T move to the center of the flags, but instead continue along the trail, there is no warning AND you end up hopelessly lost.) [8] OK, hopelessly lost, the climbers are hypothermic and out of water, but other than occasional verbal complaints, it appears they can go on in this condition forever. [9] Likewise, there seems no penalty for falling into a crevasse (the climber does not even cry out). One simply climbs out. [10] The documentation is even thinner than the game, neglecting to mention such essentials as (1) how to change viewpoint (which is essential, else you are unable to view climbers or move them) and (2) how to exit the game without resorting to killing it via the Windows Task Manager.

Summary: with more attention to some basic design and programming, this could be an enjoyable simulation. Until then, wait for version 2.

Don't let your money climb for this software

The first review of this game pretty well sums it up. To add to the frustration, I get to a point in the game after studiously following the flags that mark the trail and end up at a dead end. That's it! No mountain top, no end of the ice-fall, just a dead end. I called Mount Everest tech support who omnisciently told me to reduce my graphics speed (which I did but then couldn't even see the ladders to cross the Icefall) or upgrade my video and sound cards.

Please don't waste your time on this game. The company who made it obviously didn't. There's a reason it's marked down astronomically.

Fun, but not up to expectation

The premise is cool enough. You climb the highest peak on each of the 7 continents, each one increasing in difficulty. You must purchase the service of climbers, "train" them by spending more money, and buy gear like rope, oxygen, medical kits, and several other items. Once you figure it out, the game is very easy. You just have to re-climb mountains many times to increase your climbers' stats. Here's where the game falls short: The mountains bear no resemblance whatsoever to their real life counterparts. The mountains are merely a series of short obstacles, and periodic camps let the climber basically fully recover. Don't expect an epic, logistical nightmare, or accurate representation of the challenges of these mountains. On the plus side, the graphics and game control are excellent, and it does make a fun novelty for rainy-weather days and armchair mountaineers.

Slow and Boring Game Play

I picked up this game hoping for a realistic outdoor adventure simulator, but within 15 minutes of playing, it was so boring and slow, I practically gave up. There is no way to save the game unless you get to one of the camps. The characters are incredibly incompetent, and you have to lead them around every corner, and if they conditions are rough (usually because they are cold from stuck in a corner for 10 minutes) all they do is complain. "Manage every aspect of your expedition" is a joke. You get to pick your team, then decide on very basic supplies, such as character should take carry more oxygen, or more altitude medication. From there, you have to hold their hand every step of the way, and listen to the repetitive sound track of crunching snow, or their constant whining. Avoid this game.

I used to have this game until it broke due to my poor care of cd's. I now am going to get it again off of here. The problem is,I got frustated because I could never get past the very first glaicier. The only bad thing about the game is the difficult pace. It took forever to make it to the 1st glacier, then I could not save it until I got to base camp. It is still a great game, I recommend it to someone with patience and likes a challenge. :)

As far as 'complete' control, i agree with some of the other reviewers here. You don't have 'complete' control over everything. But, this game is really fun. Simple as that. It runs on my XP system and it's a very unique game hosted by an icon, ED VIESTURS. You have a reasonable amount of control over your supplies, teams, and so on. As far as a clock is concerned. That would've been nice. And, if you really need one, put one on your desk.

I thought this game was not the best in the world. The graphics were not the best (nothing to special) but they were exceptible. I didn't think it was very good though.
