Amazing Value

I have been a Duke Nukem loyalist for years. Quake II gives Duke a run for his money. My 4 yr. old plays this game up to the third level. Sometimes I forget some of those parts and he tutors me on how to get around. This game consumes my interest. Now it is available for under $1? I'm not ready to upgrade anytime soom to Wii or others....

Gotta love this game. since I bought it in '98 I played through it a couple of times, and I played it again on my new PC. Back then it was really cool to see a game that actually had missions in it =)
The gameplay is just great, its still one of my favorite games, and one of the 5 commercial games I have installed. Occassionally I go back to this game to play through a few units or play with a couple of friends over the LAN or modem.
I got bored with Quake3 very quickly, but this game still gets me coming back every once in a while!
If you don't own this game yet, I can tell you this is a $10 well spent (it was a $45 well spent too, back in the day:)

Buy immediatley.

Whoa, this one's a biggie, basically Q2 is Quake to the 100th power! This game is simply outstanding,I really don't understand the bad reviews on this page.Anyway Q2 involves YOU fighting a bio-mechanical alien race that has used US as body parts to make more of THEM.The weapons in the game are very cool, from shotguns to BFGS.Why am I wasting my time?Go buy Q2 and see for yourself...

An excellent game, revolutionary for its time. It kept me up many nights playing multiplayer. All the mods available for this game alone make it one of the best out there.

After reading all the reviews, there is one argument I like to write here:

Thousands of fans sites all over the internet, if not millions devoted to Quake II.

So better than trust the word of the reviewers, live the Quake II experience for yourself, love it or hate it, but one thing is for sure, you won't be indiferent to it.

Best shoot 'em up for a Pentium III or less

I resorted to purchasing older video games, like this one, because my computer can't handle Quake III or the other new ones that ask for a Pentium 4 and a fancy graphics card.

I don't mind the age of this game one bit. It's great fun and brings me back to the good old days of Doom II, except this is better, graphics-wise. Extreme value for the money (I paid about $9 for a used copy from a third-party seller). Why buy new games at all?

I had to tinker with Quake II's video options for a few minutes before arriving at an optimum setting. It does not auto-detect your setup, unlike modern games.

Best First-Person Shooter of All Time!!!

Quake 2 was unbelievable to me the first time I played it. I could not believe how good the graphics and sounds were in the game! The only first-person shooter I had played prior to Quake 2 was Doom 95. I think Quake 2 came out in 1998, but I didn't know anything about it until 2000. You should purchase The Reckoning mission pack for this game. It is truly a masterpiece! The graphics in The Reckoning are astonishing, and the artificial intelligence is remarkable! The Reckoning mission pack will also upgrade your version of Quake 2 to the latest version. In the game, you play as a tough space-marine who must eradicate the Strogg before they take every human on Earth captive and use their body parts to make more Strogg. You are a one-man army, and you must kill or be killed. You will jump, swim, and solve complex puzzles to locate the keys to open the doors that will lead you to the main boss known as the Makron. Be sure to use the Power Shield! I played the game for about a month without knowing how to use it, and I kept getting killed because I didn't have enough armor. The Strogg are crafty, especially the ones in The Reckoning. They will hunt you down wherever you hide!

Wow man, that's a cool game. A first-class game. Better than Quake3, better than Quake, better than Unreal. That's The Game - the one and only 3d-shooter which managed to keep me in front of the monitor for an entire day. And neither parents, nor friends, not even my unbearable grandmother could distract me. The graphics are a bit old-fashioned, but the VIOLENCE is superb. It's real fun watching the bad idiots who have had the bravery to confront you die in agony! It's real fun watching the walls repainted in red after you've shot with your BFG in a tightly inhabited room. It's real fun smashing your friends in a deathmatch game. Wow, man! Don't lose precious time reading this. Just run to the nearest shop as fast as you can and buy Quake2!

Still a must have. . .

This title is still a must have for any action gamer. I use it most to play deathmatch using the "Weapons of Destruction" mod. But there has been soooo much developement using the Quake II platform, that almost any gamer can find a mod they enjoy. Moreover, with the state of the art graphics cards, you can turn the resolution all the way up and not take a performance hit. As far as game play, it is still one of my favorites. I actually prefer it over Quake III. Quake III is just a bit too fast and all the levels are very similar. Quake II has the most variety (that is, once you get out on the internet and start downloading new mods/maps/models). In addition, Q2 has a single player, story line, game in addition to its deathmatch stuff. The other reason I like this title is that you can play it reasonably well on a laptop. My laptop is just too slow when trying to handle Unreal Tournament, Quake 3, or Star Trek, Elite Force. All in all, a must have; it is fun, and there is lots of variety out there to tweak the basic version.
