Too bad EA don't care about campaign players

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 2 / 2

This is a great addition to the battlefield family, only problem is finding a server without 8 yr old dee dee dee's is almost impossible. EA has made an error with this family by making offline play so un-rewarding, you can't even play all the maps that are available offline.

Good game if you can play it

I've been a of the battlefield series since the BF:1942 wake island demo came out. I've played BF2 since it came out pretty constinetly playing several hours a day during the summer. I saw many nasty bugs that put a major bump in gaming. Server browser didn't work, random crashes, hard to install patches, exploiters.

I still however love the bf2 series of games as they are very fun and encourage team work. Vehicles are a blast as many fps don't even have vehicles.

I installed this game today right after receiving it in hopes of playing. Turns out as I read the forums that the account server is offline and I can't play online. Maybe I'll try out the single player :(.

FUN but STEEP System Requirements

I have a pretty fast system that should be in about the top 25% of the gaming systems (3.2GHZ, 6800GT, 2GB, RAID drives). The game is a lot of fun but it is taxing my system to the limits. The graphics can be occasionally choppy at 1280 x 1024 with NO AA. I can't even think about 1600 x 1200. The only people that might get acceptable frame rates at 1600 x 1200 are the AMD 4000, dual 7800 crowd. The new levels and weapons are fun, I just wish I had an AMD 6000 with quad 7800's and cryogenic cooling for more overclocking.

Just a Skin

Dont waste your money! This game is just collection of skins. The maps are exactly the same only with rearranged buildings. I bought this around christmas and have played it probably 5 times total. The characters look pretty cool, but ultimately the gameplay has not changed for the better at all. This is just a gimmick pulled by EA and DICE to pump you for cash. The only real change in the gameplay is the incorporation of night maps. You are given night vision as well as a few other nifty trinkets that you seldomly use.

Take my advice and don't waste your hard earned cash on a pointless scam to get more money for more nothing.

Adds some fun new toys - overall a solid expansion pack

I was eagerly awaiting the release of this expansion pack as I had already unlocked all the weapons in the original BF2 and was getting bored with nothing to work towards. I was dissapointed when I logged in for the first time, joined a server and after 1 kill was awarded all 5 of the new unlocks. It seems I already had enough points to unlock all the new weapons. I also didn't like the fact that the new unlocks weren't available for use while playing SF, but rather to use while playing the original BF2. It is kinda funny though using the flash bangs on people, especially when they don't know what they are or why they don't have them.
The new maps are okay, not great although some of the city maps are cool. Basically it's the same as in the original - about half the maps suck and the other half are cool.
Okay, now the positives...I really like the new toys like the zip-line, grappling hook, flash bangs, tear gas and night vision goggles. It's only because of them that I gave this expansion 4 stars.
Overall it's a fun expansion pack, especially if you've already unlocked all the weapons in BF2 and are getting bored.
If you're a big BF2 fan, it is definately worth the 30 bucks.

great game but...

Great game but when i thought I was buying a expansion pack to Battlefield 2 I really got a separate game. Special forces does not have access to all maps in Battlefield 2 game, so it is like buying a separate game. This can not be called a expansion pack because of this. They should intergrate the two games, not keep them separate

This game really stinks

This game refuses to load! I sat at the optimizing shaders screen for over an hour with no results. Most of the time it stops loading at 62%, other times it even stops at 15%. EA won't reply to my emails at technical support.

It's too bad, cause I run some pretty nice machinery, too.

Furthermore, even if I could play it, I probably wouldn't want to, since the subject of the game is pretty stupid. Instead of all-out war, it's covert operations. Better to just buy the Rainbow Six franchise for that. At least they do a better job at game design.

Sorry... EA Stinks on this one too.

If you want to spend 30 bucks to get to the top of building, go for it.

Otherwise, it's just a way to make everything so dark and nasty that you don't want to play. It really is bad.

And, by the way, anytime you buy the online version you should just buy a club and beat yourself up too. EA does the worst online purchase of games possible. They really stink.

No Installation Problems Here

After receiving this game for Christmas '05, I read the reviews here. I was a bit concerned about installing it on my system after all of the reported problems. I bit the bullet one night and tried. It installed great, so I guess I lucked out. Overall, I've been enjoying playing the new game. The vehicles really aren't that great, but I do like the new weapons (especially the gas bombs). Online play is pretty cool as well, I like the new maps.

I guess I was fortunate with the install process, but I would still recommend this to BF2 fanatics.
