GREAT GAME! JUSTGOT IT!!!

Well, my girlfriend saw me looking at this game, and she bought it for me as a aniversity gift. I was looking at it because alot of people said good things about, but alot of people also said alot of bad things about it.

Well this is what I have to say.

This game is the best MMORPG I have played in a long time! I've tried many other MMORPG, from WoW, AO, and EQ2. I do agree though, this game might not be for everyone, as everyone has different taste. But, don't let all the bad comments stop you from MABY missing out on a great game. Try the trail.

I also love the fact that I feel like I'm part of the Star Wars films! The reason why they called it Star Wars Galaxies really fits it! You can do hundreds of quest, explore the 9 beautiful planets, all very different in there own way! I take screenshots like crazy :D. The PVP is also great! I like that fact that you can have dog fights in space! Also, you can own your own shop or cantina, and fill it up with houndreds of iteams that you can buy, or get from quest! The community is the best I have seen aswell.

I've notice alot of the people who say they don't like this game, are mad because they put hard work into there charater. I would be too, but the changes sound good to me. It sounds like they put in more fun and adventure, and less mindless grinding. For people who only have 2 - 3 hours or maybe less, this is a great game.... and I hate mindless point click and wait grinding.

Hope this was useful, and look out for the comments I might get, as it may be unmature people that won't let go of the fact that that alot of people do like this game, and think it is a great, and very fun game! :D

Great game a must play for any star wars fan.

First this game is like crack for the star wars fan. Game play is good and getting better. The emerson in to the star wars galaxy is never ending. Want to be a jedi and fight the imps! You can do it here. Want to be a dark jedi and stomp those rebel scum. Do it here. Great community, Great content.
Lacking on COSTUMER SERVICE soe is just bad. There is some player hacking going on that needs to be addressed to level the game out.
Been playing for 3 years +, Learning curve is about a month solo, if you get some help about a week.
Come see me on shadowfire.
May the force be with you.

Everyone loved Pre-CU?

I played the first week of retail and I like the game better today, than I ever did before. There were some fun parts about Pre-CU, but overall it was extremely complicated for new players, and so challenging that it lost fun. Course then macroing came to be cause it was so hard to grind. I love the NGE, there are some downsides but overall its a very fun game, very easy to get into and overall it offers way more than Pre-CU ever did.

Haters and trolls will be haters, but this game is for life...

dont ever let this game die.... It went from being awesome, to being mediocre, and then now its back to awesome.

Truth be told, it had its low point when the Combat Upgrade (CU) and New Game Experience (NGE) 2 years after its inital release.

Alot of long-term veterans griped, as they way the game performed changed too much for them (or so they say). Personally, It needed the change. While the game was awesome from the get-go, it was becoming quite quaint, and the old Pre-CU "skills" based process was just flat out irritating at certain points. It literally took you forever to get anywhere. There was alot of beating around the bush. From day 1, the game had its bugs, and over time, they were worked out.

The bugs are no were near as bad as people made them out to be, and vitrually unnoticeable in the game today.

While the CU and NGE may have created a few more bugs (as any new update to any game would, keep that in mind), I never noticed them. And according to many who still play, they've long sinced been fixed if they were ever noticeable to you.

The current state of the game, as of Feb 2008, is simply amazing. Fact being, more players are returning, and you can even notice this in forums, talking to people in game who are returning for the frist time in a year or so, and the overall population is growing.

Main reason being? The CU and NGE has been balanced with the Pre-CU. Don't listen to the clowns who say Sony doesn't listen. They've spent alot of time over the years taking what the folks like about the CU and NGE, and what folks liked about the Pre-CU, and blended them back to together. Now you have fully functional galaxy, with the best of Pre-CU, and the best of the CU and NGE, and you can virtually go throughout the game in a true "skills and expertise" fashion, or for those who want to get straight to the point, a very lengthy "level up" fashion, but dont think for a minute either one is easier than the other.

You might start under the Jedi profession right away (unlike Pre-CU), but trust me, your no where near being a master jedi with force powers and the ability to do much of anything... yep, just like Pre-CU, your gonna have to earn your way through a long hard way up the ladder and throughout the galaxy. You just get more relevant tools and quests to do it, unline Pre-CU hierachry, which was sometimes repulsive and just way too lengthy.

I just created a new account as a new bounty hunter profession... and though it has the word "bounty hunter" in it, I'm no where close to being anything of the sort, outside of having just the entry level bounty hunter items and being able to use a bounty hunter mission terminal for entry-levle missions. I still have to do quests, and many, many weeks of work before every truly becoming the "Bounty Hunter" that pre-cu veterans though had stole their hard earned work with the CU.

The actual combat is well balanced... no more auto shooting... you get more "feel" of action, as you have more interaction during combat situations.

And the graphics, still remarkably well for todays standards... surpassing even some of todays games for the large outdoor and space enviornments.

The expansions add so much more to it... Jump to lightspeed, for example, has been untouched by the CU and NGE, and remains just as cool as it was the day it was released... and adds that much more to the game.

This game is definteley far larger than other MMORPGS, with much more to do and to see. I think it was best said that while you may "play WoW", you "live Star Wars Galaxies".

Do yourself a favor, ignore the WoW fanboys, the trolls, and those who want to gripe about a update that to them made the game something else, and return or pickup a copy of galaxies, with the expansions, and see for yourself just what you've been missing.

Lucasarts and SOE have outdone themselves! All you bad reviews are outdated!!!!

I don't know how the game used to be, but i'm guessing it wasn't as good as it is now. I started playing this game 10 months ago. Starting out in the game is a little confusing and a little annoying (making something new on any game is a pain!). Once i learned about the game's enviroment, i was able to progress vastly. I was able to play the game to the fullest and it as so much fun. As i played game updates were made that made the game shine!

Everything in the game is fun: combat, trading, entertainment, marriage, owning a house (personally i have a 4 story mansion, while my alternate character has a vendor), piloting, Galactic Civil War, pvp, and role-playing!

There were great updates recently, including new powers, collections, and the ability to own a gunship! (Not to mension more repairs on the minor bugs in the game.)

To finish off, don't listen to the other negative reviews. I checked all of the to find out most if not all were outdated. Since then they have done great things to the game!......

Great things !!!!

Its not as bead as you hear

Where many people say that this game is horrible and that Lucas Arts is just trying to suck money out of your wallet, I don't see it that way. I have been playing this for many years over the various updates it has gone through and it just seems more and more fun. There seem to be more people actively playing it as well. Don't go on what people tell you, play the trial and see for yourself.

Great Game

I found the game to be a heck of a lot of fun and a truely immersive Star Wars experience. SOE have been consistently working to improve the game and add new content.

Take the role of one of nine iconic Star War's professions, and explore over 12 different planets. Immerse yourself in a deep crafting system, that amongst other things lets you design your own spacecraft. Pilot spacecraft and fight against the Rebellon, the Empire, or pirates in space and land. Use the new expertise system to customise your character. Spend time questing, hunting or engaging in PvP. The choice is yours.

The best thing, you can bypass all these reviews both negative and positive and make up your own mind by downloading the free trail and playing the game yourself.

SWG is getting much better

Gone are the dark times of the NGE or New Game Enhancements. The game is very close to the initial CU (Combat Upgrade) level of play again.

The new player tutorial is very well done as are the initial Legacy Quests to get up to around level 50. Profession Expertise is now out for all professions and the new pvp areas of Restuss and the Galactic Civil War bases are a nice addition.

Don't be discouraged by all the negative reviews from bitter vets. This game is very good. Player housing, cities, and a very robust crafting system are still better than any other MMO out here. Not to mention the Space part which is also very fun.

SWG is still a good game

I joined the game back in 2004, and it was great, but I didn't like the NGE (New Game Enhancement) too much, So I quit in early 2006. But I decided to give it one more try, and I love it! I realized that it's not the game I had before, this is a new game and a great one! There are still some bugs in the game, but patches are commonly coming out. There are a lot of veterans of the old game that really don't like the NGE, so they give it a 1 star. They don't understand, SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) made a good move, now it's easier to make more content/patches/expansions to make it a even better game!
