"Brothers In Arms: Earned In Blood" is One of the Best World War II PC Games Out There, Period

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 15 / 18

First of all, this review is based only on the Single Player version of the game. I only play Single Player in PC games. I don't play Multiplayer. "Brothers In Arms: Earned In Blood" is a well made, well thought out game with great replay value. I thought the first PC game "Brothers In Arms: Road to Hill 30" was good but this latest game is ten times better than the first one. The maps in this game are well thought out and well made. The graphics are more sharper and crisper and you can hold your weapon more steady now than you could in the first "Brothers In Arms" PC game. You can control fellow soldiers and tanks throughout the game and you can tell them what to do and where to go. You now have choices for taking numerous paths to reach objectives in maps which is how all "First Person Shooter" PC games should be made now. The developer (Gearbox) needs to be commended for making such a great game. They added in a new part to the game called "Skirmish Mode" which was a brilliant move. Now you can play the roles of the Americans or German soldiers on different maps at different play value settings. The "Skirish Mode" alone has great replay value. I knew this game was going to be great because Gearbox already had a great reputation for making great PC games. They made the great add-on PC game for the original Half Life called "Half-Life Expansion Pack: Opposing Forces" back in 1999 which was ahead of its time back then. With the latest Brothers In Arms PC game, I can tell a lot of research went into making this game. What amazes me is how fast this game came out after the first Brothers in Arms game came out and still turn out to be such a great game. There is no excuse and no reason why game developers with today's techology can not make open ended maps for PC games now. I am really disappointed that the game developer "Infinity Ward" didn't do that with the demo for the PC game "Call of Duty 2". The demo is a Single Player version of the game with one map set in the coastal town of El Daba, Egypt on November 4, 1942 that forces the player to take one route throughout the demo. You can't even enter most buildings in the map or use most alleyways or streets in the town. You can't control any fellow soldiers in the demo like you can in Brothers In Arms. Hopefully Infinity Ward didn't end up doing a rushed game just to meet a deadline date. They had a lot more time than Gearbox to make a great World War II PC game. I'm not saying Call Of Duty 2 is going to be a bad game because it's not. I'm just saying look at the game which is going to have more replay value. "Brothers In Arms: Earned In Blood" is definitely going in the right direction as far as replay value goes. Thanks, Gearbox, for a great game.

If you are looking for a brainless shooter with the typical scripted missions then buy something else or get CoD for your kids. The Brothers In Arms series represents one of the better games in the evolving squad based games out there where you are not only responsible for shooting bots, but also managing your squad in intense firefights. If you are into infantry tactics then this is the game for you.

The best FPS i have ever played!

this game is indescribable! its has the best graphics, the AI is a lot smarter than usual, and its action packed! i highly reccomend this game, for it is a must get! COD 2 doesnt come even close! but if u r someone who likes to run in and kill all the bad guys while your men are getting slaughtered, DONT BUY THIS GAME! u need brains to play this! it doesnt take brains to rush in a room and MG every1 in sight!

I agree with the above.

I to have played the C of D 2 demo and I wasn't impressed to say the least. Why, just read what the first guy said, it's not as good of a game as B&A is or Earned in Blood will be. I only played the demo of this game but I can tell you that if Call of Duty 2 gets a higher score than Earned in Blood did in PC Gamer which was (8.7) then there is something seriously wrong! Based on it's demo, it is just an interactive movie to me and very limited. Earned in Blood is like fighting a real life WWII battle making the same desitions strategicly like a real Field Sargent would back then so there's the comparison between the two in game play! Judge for yourselve's. I highly recommend this game and the previous release to anyone who like's control over the entire situation and that requires a little more brain cells than just "run and gun" game play would. Come on Infanty Ward, it's getting old guys! Be creative and catch up with everyone else in the 21st century!

For those folks that say that they cannot make someone go down when firing at them, all I have to say is you are not aiming. It might take a couple rounds to down them, but same goes for you. One squeeze of the trigger with a grease gun or BAR does the job. One slug from a German sniper does it.

For those who don't think the fire and maneuver is realistic or boring. Sorry that is life bud. There is more than one way to do it also in this game.

For those that don't like the script, learn a little history.

For those that think the AI is too predictable haven't been playing the same rounds that I have been playing. The tanks are anything but predicatable.

This is a great game that you game (a) learn something, (b) have a bit of fun and (c) stop to remember all those folks that have and are still dying for our freedom and those of other people. In the real world you don't have restart checkpoint and heal the squad.

For anybody who is still disappointed, see your Army recruiter because this is as real as it gets without doing it for real.

Best FPS since the ORIGINAL Doom?

This game is incredible. It breathes new life into the WWII shooter by adding a new dimension. (The ability to COMMAND men and tanks in the field.) I realize this sounds like it would be a hastle to deal with, especially in this already intense genre, but it really is easy and becomes second nature very fast. (I'd say its on a par with learning how to aim down the sights the first time you played an FPS which used the feature.)
Thats really enough for me to buy the game but there is SO much more. Single player is really fun and feels far more realistic than any WWII game I've played. (When flanked enimies attempt to fall back to a new line of defense, rather then let you blow them away, and each level has a set number of enemies. They don't just keep comming until you set foot on a specific spot like the COD games.)Not to mention beating levels on harder difficulties unlocks "extras" which are pretty intresting, incouraging you to beat it on the hardest settings. (Believe it or not thats just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to replay value.)
The real fun is in multi-player. They're all objective based missions and with players controlling they're own squads both sides move and act like teams, rather than a run around free for all. And boy are there a LOT of missions. Almost overwhelming the first time you play online. (I never thought I'd be able to master every level.)
As if that wasn't enough, there are quite a few "skirmish levels" These can be played alone or with a friend and they basicly amount to an entire seperate single player campaign, or, you can play it as a co-op campaign. Not to mention each of these levels have adjustable objectives. (I.E. you can attack a level and then try your luck at defending it.) Truly amazing.

Side note. Some people have complained that the M1 Garand is not accurate enough in this game. I find this intresting because the M1 Garand is not IN this game. The M1A1 carbine is. It is the lighter weapon given to paratroopers. It fires ten rounds instead of eight, and can be re-loaded mid clip unlike the grarand. Most importantly though it is both less accurate and less powerful.

The most realistc of all games

A lot of people say this game is bad and you can't aim and the germans won't die and etc. Which is not accurate.

The reason why people "can't aim" is because most people are used to Call of Duty or Medal of Honor where the gun is completely still and the sights are lined up perfectly. Which is unrealistic because in BIR they make the gun move a little on purpose because it's impossible in real life to hold a gun completely still without resting it on a stump, branch, or tri-pod. I know this because I target shoot, the game creators are making the game as realistic as possible.

And as far as the squad mates goes, well that can be true as far as they not listening to you but it doesn't happen that often.

Have you ever shot a real M1-Garand? Or a K98? Because a lot of times in war one side will have better weapons than the other side, where in Call of Duty it's all fair for both sides. This game has gotten awards from organizations (I can't name any at the moment) on how realistic this game is.

And when people say the Germans won't die it's because they think they have the sights lined up but they probably don't. When I go target shooting with my .22 with iron sights I think I have the sights lined up on the bulls eye but I find out after the shot that I didn't. This game is only for people who want to be as close to realism as possible, where as Call of Duty and Medal of Honor are for people who just want to play a un-realistic game thats too easy. Everyone has their own opinions and this is mine.

I've played all the Medal of Honor titles and Call of Duty but this and BIA Road to Hill 30 are the best. Some reviews will tell you that it has it's glitches but I haven't had a bad experience. I love the fact that you can control your own squad and have more control in the game overall. I also love the fact that it is based on real history. The production crew went to great lengths to reproduce towns and the environment these real men experienced. All of the production can be seen in the 'extras' in the game. Some of the towns in the game haven't changed much in 60+ years. It's a great WW2 first person shooter game. If you like these types of games I highly recommend it. Be prepared to spend hours on end of enjoyable play time.

Great game in all, nice story. It relies on skill. In order to defeat the germans in this WWII setting game the use of your squad is essental. You can order your squad to basically do and go where you command them.I find this game to be as close as a game can get to the real thing. If you like this game, play also "Close Combat First to Fight" It is similar to this game in some ways. You control and rely on your squad team to defeat your enemy

out of all the WW 2 combat and flight simulators i have i must say that brothers in arms is my over all favorite, it is so real and just like being in the thick of the action, there are a lot of diffrent missions and commands that you have to do given they are your mission, these missons are a true challenge and makes the game seem as if you are there and in real combat, just turn up the speakers down the lights and put your self in the game, and as far as realisom, this is it in Brothers in arms, blood if you are squimish can be reset so you dont see much, the Fighting is very real and the game allows diffent levels of play depending on your skills and exsperiance in playing WW2 shooter, you can also edit missions in editor, some missons are harder than others but this game gives you the thought that you are in the Military in the thick of action of WW2, also the graphics of ( Brothers in Arms Earned in Blood ) are as good if not Better than any game out thier, i give this game in Graphics realisom and game play 5 Stars

dont miss out you wont be sorry for this buy
