WAY BETTER THAN THE FARCE NUMBER FOUR!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1
Date: July 30, 2006

This is what should have been the sequel instead of the crappy farce Battle Network Four. The graphics are way better, the story is way better, the end is more satisfying, and the best part is that you don't have to restart to get everything like in the stupid part four. If you hated part four or did not think it was that good, you will be pleasantly surprised by this great game.

Whats Wrong with Capcom?

Fifth instalment of the long and entertainment Megaman Battle Network series. Is the game good or bad and frustrating? Lets see...

Graphics: Don't expect any changes here. The only changes Capcom made was a different design of the net (a maze in short words) and like 6 different places to go in the Real World, they are not special or beautiful to look at. The sprites are the same like in Megaman Battle Network 4, they are smaller and look better.

Gameplay: Here is the new thing about this game. You don't play only as Megaman, you get to play with differents Navis but only on liberation missions so is the same thing. You get to play with: Gyroman (an annoying helicopter navi), Searchman (Meh...), Magnemant (from Battle Network 2), Medi (An useless navi...), Protoman (yay...) and Napalman (A secret navi from Battle Network 2). As I stated above you only use them in the liberated missions. Meaning that their use is limited to the player. Im glad Capcom implemented that cause its always fun to upgrade Megaman and battle with him. New in this game is the so called "Liberation/Liberate Missions" where you get to battle a "Darkloid" from the evil syndicate Nebula, in these missions you will play as different navis, every one of them has their unique ability and that adds variety to the gameplay. When you start a liberate mission the game changes from a normal RPG wandering game to a (lets call it) FF Tactics. In those missions you will have to liberate or clear any poisoned panel in your way to get to the darkloid. HOWEVER, when you start fight you will have to kill a virus between 3 turns! That means if you fail killing it. You wont clear the panel and loose a turn. (CHEAP, Capcom, CHEAP).

There are also DARKHOLES that you need to clear because these holes protects the darkloid and you cannot get by and fight the darkloid if you don't destroy these holes. Each hole has a Mini-Boss, when the Darkloid?s turn arrives, he will either attack you or will have these Mini-Boss to attack you if you are near them.

As you progress you will be required to find KEYS and it makes the game cheaper, because you actually don't know where they are. (Here is where the other navis are useful). There a three types of panel.

Poisoned Panel: A normal battle will occur if you attempt to liberate it.

Item Panel: A normal battle will occur if you attempt to liberate it. But after the battle you will receive an item of any kind: Chip, order points, health, invisible.

Random Item Panel: These are yellow and it had a ? on it. No battle in this one. But a screen will flash and you will have to press the A button and see which item you get. Is all about luck and timing.

Another thing that I want to make clear in these missions is that, if you attempt to liberate a panel and your navi is standing between two panel (you liberate the front panel) a battle will follow and virus will appear from both sides! (When I heard about this I thought it was cool) but is NOT! The enemies are harder, sometimes there is cracked panel and DOMINERDS which makes it a frustration! This is the main "Juice" about this game and its cheap.

But besides these missions everything else is normal. Some cheap viruses battles (Ahem, Cloudman) and extremely easy bosses battles. The soul system is still a pain since is a 3 turn based system... and you don't want to get stuck with one soul in an entire battle (Ahem, last fight) without using chips.

Sound/Music: The music is still catchy but nothing special. The boss battle theme sucks, same with the busting virus them, I remember I went to this Chinese like town and the music blew me away, the net music sucks... same sound from the other instalments. The only BGM that caught my attention was the title music and the last battle. But nothing else.

Story: Not a big deal either. It sucks, I say capcom was on drugs while making the game... the translation from Japanese to English is NOT perfect. I remember seeing some issues with it. Lan?s dad gets kidnapped by (guess what?) Nebula! Boo-Hoo... your friends pets are stolen too... you join a team... sometimes you have to fight a member of the team before they "officially" join the team. You get to see lines such as "I did bad... ok I'm joining the TEAM!" and Lan is like "Ok!" Capcom, make something great at least or something convincing like in Battle Network 3... MEH!

Control: Same thing with previous instalment. Nothing has changed, except that you can turn megaman direction in the liberate missions with the L and R buttons. But nothing has really changed.

All in all if this is your first time in the battle network series, avoid this. Start with Battle Network 2. If you are a fan of the series, give it a good rental since this game is frustrating and I really mean it!

Really Challenging game

It's a challinging game. It has past stuff like Shademan. You have to beat bosses in three turns per person.

Pros
-You get to be Protoman, Magnetman, Gryoman and megaman
-You can combine navi souls

Cons
-you can only be combined for 3 turns

Megaman 5 is fun, but when the game ends, well......

This game is for people who like temporary enjoyment, since the game is based off of a T.V show. Yes, it is fun to strategize, and "jack in" to the net, but after you defeat Nebula, there is nothing to do. Infact, after you beat Nebula Grey, you go back to where you were BEFORE you beat it- as if nothing ever happened, except for the little protoman (or colonial, if you have the other version) icon, when you go back to the start-up menu. There are extra liberations, but the game makes you do things, like get this many chips, or find this, and if you don't, you can't move on. The graphics are the only thing that boosts my rating, but since it is also for the DS, I expect that. And even with the graphics, your town has "empty endings". Like if you can't go further in the town, there's just a nothing spot at the end, and just a blue backround.
But this game is good, if you're in the Megaman spirit. But if you're not a Megaman fan, this is not worth getting.

its ok

First-Timer on Battle Network Finds Beauty in Game

I am a hard-core Mega Man Classic fan, known to those on Nintendo's N-Sider Forums as NintendoMasterGC. As such, I never really thought much of the Battle Network Series - until I got my hands on this game!
Team Protoman has an amazing level of complexity - for those non-Pokemon fans out there like myself, this is a more-than-perfect substitute. In Battle Network, the world has been completely networked into a cyber-society. Each person carries something called a PET (PErsonal Terminal) which enables them to "jack-in" to the Web; in other words, they can link up to the Internet using this evolved cell phone. Best of all, each PET comes equipped with a special program called Internet Navigator, or NetNavi for short. NetNavis are actually digital robots that are sent into the cyberstream of the Net to perform tasks online.
Computer viruses are rampant in cyber-society, and NetNavis must be equipped with fighting programs contained on Battle Chips in order to defeat these viruses. Collecting Battle Chips is reminiscent of the "Gotta catch 'em all" of the Pokemon games, and carries much the same depth of strategy.
Certain Battle Chips contain evil data on them, and will adversely affect your Navi, Mega Man, if you use them. The producer of these DarkChips, the Nebula DarkChip Syndicate, and its leader, the nefarious Dr. Regal, are plotting to infect the entire world with evil data! You must pilot Mega Man through many harrowing escapades online to put a stop to this new threat.
Battle Chips are the means of survival in this game, so get as many as you can. To activate these chips, place 30 of them in you Chip Folder, which holds the chips ready for use. During battles (which occur randomly and without warning), you'll need to select these chips from the Custom Screen, the chip selector area, and send their data to Mega Man. Fire away to destroy the enemies.
All in all, this game is incredible. I highly recommend this game to Mega Man fans and non-Mega Man fans alike!

this was one of the better installments of all the megaman bn games but thay could have upped the difficulty levels on the bosses alot more i beat all the omega navis untouhed even bass omega nebula gray omega and dark megaman omega (darksoul omega version)

the 2 main things that stand out the most in this game are these 2

.chaos union
a new double soul feature in which you perform a soul unison with a dark chip thus the name "chaos union" i will list the cons and pros to this in a min

pros

.megamans soul is not tainted by darkness
yes you heard me this is why i use chaos union your soul is not tainted at all when you use this unlike the normal use of normal darkchips (shivers(i never use dark chips i hate them i only use chaos union as needed))

.dont lose 1 hp permenantly
yes another pro to chaos union you dont lose a single hp permenantly another reason why i use this

.use the power of a darkchip with out losing an hp or being tainted
your charge shot becomes the dark chip you united with except no soul tainting or hp loss (whoopeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! =D)

cons

.only lasts 1 turn
chaos union only lasts 1 turn you can guess why since you have the power of darkness on your side with no side effects (well almost none just 1 prob)

.green charge BAD!!! purple charge GOOOD!!!
when you use a dark charge shot if its a small green dont shoot or your dark soul will leave you and fight you if big and purple your attack is a success but it gets faster te more times you use it ive never gone past 3 charges... *sigh*

.never use in liberation missions
you never have a chance to use a charge shot especiall since your custom screen pops out automatically

========================================

new souls
there are new souls ill tell you about the 1s in tp including chaos unions

team protoman souls

========================================

search soul
an oldie from bn 4 as usual you can shuffle your chips and your charge becomes a sniper

search chaos
i havnt tried this 1 myself i think you still have shuffle and your charge becomes a darkcirc attack

========================================

napalm soul
absorb lava panels to add fire power to fire based chips and your charge a botton attack when using fire chips becomes a flame thrower your buster is a vulcan

napalm chaos
absorb lava panels like the other i think and your charge shot becomes a darkmeteo

========================================

meddy soul

you gain capsules of 5 verietys in your cust screen to mix with yourchips 2 per turn in wich your using this soul.

.black capsule
adds blind to chip attack (best used with wide range chips like bighook and d.pheonix)

pink capsule
recover when chip is used unknown how much

purple
adds bugs tochip attack

white
adds paralasys to chip attack (freezes)

yellow
adds confusion to attack

meddy chaos
i still think you mix but your charge becomes a dark recover

========================================

proto soul
charge a sword chip with a botton step 2 forward and slash cuz u got a built in stepswrd

b + <--- = proto shield

charge shot becomes wide sword

proto chaos
your charge becomes a dark sword and i think you still hav charge step sword

========================================

megnet soul

charged elec chips do double damage

<----- + b = all enemies in same row paralyzed except guarded 1s

charge becomes magbolt draw in enemy and shock away!

thunder chaos
your charge becomes a dark thunderchip

========================================

gyro soul

can walk on cracks and lava panels no dmg

wind chips doubled as long as proppeler is spinning (windchips do this)

charge becomes tornado arm and goes ahead 3 spaces

gyro chaos
your charge becomes a dark tornado

========================================

overall tp is a good game but a little on the easy side reccomended for game begginers and huge megaman fans

This is a great megaman game. It has good graphics, and you get to be different navis like magnetman and gyroman. This is also a challenging game especially the battles where you fight darkloids like shademan, blizzardman, and cloudman. You get some sweet chips like Roll. The darkchips are very powerful but never ever use them. Overall, this is a very great game.
