Good AC addition - much better graphics - DUH PS3

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 8 / 9

In general, a welcome addition to the AC series. Great graphics, the outgoing and incoming fire illuminates the surrounding (buildings, valleys..), the buildings can be damaged and in some cases destroyed an improvement to the old static ones.

The garage is different than the last ones - schematics of pre-canned mechs, but they can be customized. The method is different, not good or bad, just will take some getting used to.

Primary Armor is new, electronic shielding device. I like it, you can hang in a firefight longer and it does regenerate. It doesn't make the game easier, you still get your [...] kicked.

The controls are similar to the old ones (type A), shoulder weapons (like shotguns) are now available than can fire independently are handy for little stuff.

The story line is interesting, but I don't buy games for cut scenes.

I only have gotten to the 4th chapter of missons so far, a 4yr old that wants to play or stands in front of the TV cuts back on the quality gaming time. I also only have a standard TV using S-video, the game supports 720p.

Stick with the PS2 versions

This is an infuriating game, just buy it if you want to spend 3 hours trying to finish one mission. Otherwise dont waste your money. Seems like the FCS in this version likes to break alot. I dont know about you but I like to play games for fun, not to be frustrated. 20 tries on the 1st chapter mission baldora was enough for me.

Also, why would they remove the most fun part of the game, the arena combat from this one? That was extremely disappointing.

Basically this game absolutely sucks compared to the ealier versions on other platforms. Don't waste your money like I did, buy it used, it is not worth the 50 or 60 dollars you'll spend on a new one.

Best "Mech" game ever!

As an oldschool fan of "giant fighting robot" games(starting with the original Battletech boardgame waaayyy back in the day) I must rank this game as the pinnacle of of the genre! The ability to customize your Mech's weapons and defenses beats every installment of the "Mechwarrior" franchise (though admittedly the Mechwarrior storylines felt better developed) and I'm not even going to bother to compare it to the lackluster Gundam franchise. The action here is FAST and as one reviewer mentioned some missions can be completed in under 30 seconds, but this is totally a function of having the right Mech design to get the job done. But don't worry if you aren't super-twitchy- there are plenty of missions that can benefit from a slower more thoughtful approach (those with environmental challenges or terrain that can be used to your advantage).
It is the combination of strategy (outfitting and tuning your Mech for a particular mission goal) and frantic fast-paced mech-on-mech combat that manages to satisfy all my gaming needs. Armored Core 4 has both adrenaline and brains. All it needs now is a movie franchise (and after you see the opening cinematic I think you'll agree with me on that one!)

Very Impressive

While the ever-changing garage interface continues, which is kind of annoying, the game play and graphics are amazing (as expected). The controls have been much improved and are very smooth. The auto-targeting and auto-boost features are very useful and the "shields" do help you maintain a few extra battle minutes. Overall very good, I hope it's long enough though (haven't beaten it yet)

Fun

Bought into the franchise...

I pre-ordered this game because I enjoyed the AC series for the PS2 and was looking for a release with updated PS3 graphics. Should have waited for the review. The parts system is very confusing. Most missions are fairly stupid, some only lasting 30 seconds! By the time you figure out what you're supposed to do, you're dead, and then you have to wait for everything to load again. Tick-tock. I bought the game with a gift certificate, so I'm not out that much.

Not close to Resistance, but Zillion times better than Mobile Suit disaster

I just purchased this yesterday(22-Mar-07) and played it for around 5 mins to get the feel. It was alright, Much better than Mobile Suit gundam. Now that PS3 is available worldwide, Online play should not be a big deal. If you bought crappy games like Bomberman(360) or Genji or Mobile suit..., then you certainly will be happy with Armored Core. There is not much of a difference between the XBOX and the PS3 versions. I really cannot tell you which version is better because it does not matter. Even if you decide not to buy this game, you are not missing anything much. Your nerdiness will remain intact.

Oooh the g forces

Non stop action, its great. I love this game, the speed, the customizablity and the online play. If there is a better hard Core mecca game out there please point it out (not Chrome Hounds).

The Future of AC is Definately Bright!

I have been an Armored Core fan for a long while and I must say that PS3 has pushed this game to a new level.

Mechs, Guns, and Explosions, Enough said.

Goodluck to all the other gaming companies trying to top this game any time soon, and that is a challenge!

Horrible Control Design

I bought this game a while ago, about a year or so ago. I started it but never got around to finishing it, until now, and I have to say this is the worst game I own for the PS3. Aiming is frustratingly near impossible, vehicle customization is frustratingly unintuitive, and the only reason why I'm attempting to finish this thing is because I spent $50 on it but I am seriously considering cutting my loses and selling it to a local game shop. I know this review isn't very technical but I felt compelled to write one out of sheer frustration with the game's poor interface and game play. I had less frustration with playing Lair. My conclusion, Save Your Money.
