It is important to note there is nothing new in this game. It is just a re-release of the game and its two expansion packs. So, if you have Rollercoaster Tycoon and the expansion packs, don't bother, Rollercoaster Tycoon II is coming this fall.

But if you dont have any of the RCT games yet, this is a good buy.

BUY THIS NOW!

Rollercoaster Tycoon...the legacy? Absolutley, gamers for generations to come will look forward to the new releases of this game! Okay maybe I am over-exaggerating, but I can tell you that I love this game, I am 24 years old and I love this game. It is incredibly addictive. I can also tell you this, if you are wondering what version to buy, get the gold edition first. It gives you the original Rollercoaster tycoon (RCT for short) plus the two RCT expansion packs (loopy landscapes and corkscrew follies).

I will also warn you to start easy. It's much easier to start small and build your parks along with your knowledge. If you go straight to RCT II there are some very challenging games that is hard to appreciate or understand without first conquering a few games the conventional way.

To quote Aerosmith's Amazing "You have to learn to crawl...before you learn to walk" so just like with every other game and life in general, take things one step at a time. But be sure to buy this game...it's a blast! The game earns five stars and higher if I could. Buy this version because for ten bucks more you can almost quadruple your fun!

There is a patch you can download at Atari's web site to make the expansion pack Loopy Landscapes work on a PC running Windows XP. The Roller Coaster Tycoon CD itself already runs fine under Windows XP, but the expansion packs Corkscrew Follies and Loopy Landscapes do not run under Windows XP even if you change the compatibility mode on your PC for Windows 95/98. The patch will make Loopy Landscapes run fine using Windows XP, and since it already includes Corkscrew Follies, you do not need to worry about trying to get that CD to work.

Also, the RollerCoaster Tycoon Gold Edition pack that we just purhased from Amazon already has the downloadable patch applied to the Loopy Landscapes expansion pack CD, so we didn't even need to download the patch.

So, those of you running Windows XP on your PC and can't get Loopy Landscapes to work, go download that patch and have fun using your expansion pack.

I don't have any of the Roller Coaster Tycoon series so I decided to buy this 3 in 1 All Ride Pass. It turned to be a great game. I heard people say it is the best roller coaster game so I had to try it out myself and it was even better than expected! The animation was really cool and it acts like a normal theme park with conession stands and even to my favorite ROLLER COASTERS! Then it has normal favorite rides like Bumber Cars, train, monorail, log flumes and a rapids ride (tire ride that floats on the water A theme park favorite. You have to manage your park successfully to make lots of money to be a tycoon. Then the rest is expansion paks filled with more ROLLER COASTERS! Corkscrew Follies and Loopy Landscapes. The 3 in 1 game pak will keep you busy for the whole summer and then some! Buy it quickly, it was the coolest animations and sounds people screaming on roller coasters!

YOU DO NOT HAVE A LIFE WITHOUT THIS GAME!

More than an "E" ticket...

The "Gold Edition" of "Roller Coaster Tycoon" also includes both of the expansion discs - the "Corkscrew Follies" expansion, and the "Loopy Landscapes" expansion. It is definitely an "E" ticket purchase.

The first disc, "Roller Coaster Tycoon", lets you simulate building amusement parks - complete with rides, food and drink stalls, and other attractions. The coasters are the main attraction, but you can design and build entire parks with this disc. It includes 14 different coaster designs and some examples of each type, and also allows you to try to build your own coasters. There are other types of amusement park rides, including water slides, merry-go-rounds and ferris wheels, go kart race tracks, and many others. There are also over two dozen scenarios ranging from fairly easy to fairly difficult.

This disc is a great beginning to this pack of products. It allows you to begin designing your own amusement park in minutes in whatever way you desire. Your park's rating (how much the people like the total experience) depends on a mix of everything - from the types of rides you offer and how scary they are, to the amount of food, drink, and other amenities you offer them. You must provide staff - maintenance men to clean the paths, empty the trash, and cut the grass; mechanics to repair and inspect the rides; security guards to keep vandalism in check; and entertainers in weird costumes to keep kids happy while in lines. Finally, you must make enough money to be successful - many parks start with loans you must pay off in order to win with a positive balance, although it is possible to win with a negative balance. Try designing a coaster that's really scary that won't end up causing accidents!

The second disc, "Corkscrew Follies" includes even more coaster types, new rides and new attractions, and 30 more scenarios for you to attempt - many quite a bit different, with varying difficulty levels, from the original disc.

The Corkscrew coasters, the Steel Twister coasters, the Side Friction coasters, and the Virginia Reels make great additions to RCT parks you have already designed and saved, and also provide more rides to design tracks for. My favorite section of this add-on is the ability to paint tracks different colors in different places. Even a small touch like this one can add to more customer appreciation of your rides and your park. The new scenarios include many really unusual parks - including ones built on seaside cliffs and ones built in the middle of the desert.

"Loopy Landscapes", the third in the series, adds 30 more scenarios, a couple new coasters, more rides and attractions, and more new theme sets. Many of the scenarios for you to complete are coaster finishing challenges - where you are given coasters that have already begun construction and are challenged to finish it and have it be exciting enough without being too nausea inducing. These are the most challenging scenarios so far.

It also contains six more new themes for your park, allowing you to create Jurassic Park rip-offs, Martian madness, Wonderland fantasies, and many others. I especially enjoy the addition of complete park themes - many real parks have themes such as "Wild West", "Far East", "Americana", and others, and themes give you a chance to try these out while playing the game.

In the Gold Edition you get all of this in one convenient package for the same price as the original game. This gives you almost 100 scenarios, all of the park themes and theme ride entrances, all the shops - including the long-awaited "T-Shirt Shop" and the really strange and fun "Tentacle" shop, and more. Yes, all the rides from all three editions, and all of the expansions to these rides. This makes this package one of the best values in coaster building games. This edition also includes the "freebies" that are offered on the Roller Coaster Tycoon website - three Roller Coaster Tycoon versions of actual amusement parks, and the "Fort Ticonderoga" park.

The replay value of this collection is great. I find myself being drawn back over and over again to see if I can better my previous rating or ending park value, or both, or add something to the previous parks to make them more interesting.

My only complaint is that there is still no scenario design package included with this game. I'd like to be able to design my own starter parks to share with others - possibly even something as elaborate as Disneyland or Walt Disney World. However, I've heard that there is a new expansion under way that may give us scenario designing tools.

If you've never tried Roller Coaster Tycoon, and you like amusement parks, you'll love the ability to design and build your own park. The Gold Edition gives you all the current versions of the program, and if you don't own Roller Coaster Tycoon already, it makes a great addition to your computer game program library. If you already own RCT, then it may still be a good value due to its inclusion of both of the expansion packs.

Watch out Walt Disney - here comes Roller Coaster Tycoon!

To the disgruntled who claim it doesn't work on Windows XP.

As an owner of a computer with Windows XP, I assure you that Rollercoaster Tycoon will work. Windows XP has a compatibility wizard that you can use to make older programs work. It's kinda funny though, I didn't use the compatibility wizard and Rollercoaster Tycoon is working just fine on my computer (I have Windows XP). Those complaining probably didn't load the game right on their computer.

Fun for ALL ages (and works in XP)

I bought this game as a Christmas gift and installed it on a single parent family's 1st computer. It went on without any "issues". The oldest boy (12 years old) watched me as I installed it and commented: "What a dumb game; it doesn't look like as much fun as (arcade) or pinball games". I told him confidentially that I had bought the game for his two "littler" sisters. I came back 2 days later and his mom says he started playing the game, now is playing it to the exclusion of all other computer games, is playing non-stop and hasn't come up for air!! Actually, he's learning how to run a business and make valid business decisions. He now has $250,000.00 and many many park customers; his mom couldn't be prouder of him. I hope he doesn't see this review (he still thinks it is a game).

This game has you doing it all: Building roller coasters, ferris wheels, merry-go-rounds, and all of the other types of rides you find at a typical amusement park. You also build food kisoks, drink kiosks, design the park layout, build footpaths, build park benches and trash recepticles, etc. And, you have to hire maintenance, custodial and security personnel. There is a lot of strategy involved and you must listen to your customers' feedback and act accordingly in order to have your park continue to grow and be patronized. This sounds overwhelming but the interface is VERY well laid out, is very intuitive, and, if you start slowly at first, you'll soon be in the "thick of things", totally immersed and having more fun than you ever thought possible from a "dumb old game".

Oh! And by the way, I didn't have to do anything "special" to get it to play on the XP system. I just installed it and was "good to go".

GREAT!!!!!!
