It is important to note there is nothing new in this game. It is just a re-release of the game and its two expansion packs. So, if you have Rollercoaster Tycoon and the expansion packs, don't bother, Rollercoaster Tycoon II is coming this fall.

But if you dont have any of the RCT games yet, this is a good buy.

BUY THIS NOW!

Rollercoaster Tycoon...the legacy? Absolutley, gamers for generations to come will look forward to the new releases of this game! Okay maybe I am over-exaggerating, but I can tell you that I love this game, I am 24 years old and I love this game. It is incredibly addictive. I can also tell you this, if you are wondering what version to buy, get the gold edition first. It gives you the original Rollercoaster tycoon (RCT for short) plus the two RCT expansion packs (loopy landscapes and corkscrew follies).

I will also warn you to start easy. It's much easier to start small and build your parks along with your knowledge. If you go straight to RCT II there are some very challenging games that is hard to appreciate or understand without first conquering a few games the conventional way.

To quote Aerosmith's Amazing "You have to learn to crawl...before you learn to walk" so just like with every other game and life in general, take things one step at a time. But be sure to buy this game...it's a blast! The game earns five stars and higher if I could. Buy this version because for ten bucks more you can almost quadruple your fun!

There is a patch you can download at Atari's web site to make the expansion pack Loopy Landscapes work on a PC running Windows XP. The Roller Coaster Tycoon CD itself already runs fine under Windows XP, but the expansion packs Corkscrew Follies and Loopy Landscapes do not run under Windows XP even if you change the compatibility mode on your PC for Windows 95/98. The patch will make Loopy Landscapes run fine using Windows XP, and since it already includes Corkscrew Follies, you do not need to worry about trying to get that CD to work.

Also, the RollerCoaster Tycoon Gold Edition pack that we just purhased from Amazon already has the downloadable patch applied to the Loopy Landscapes expansion pack CD, so we didn't even need to download the patch.

So, those of you running Windows XP on your PC and can't get Loopy Landscapes to work, go download that patch and have fun using your expansion pack.

Highly reccomended, but...

That is a big but there. The original game was good, then 2 expansion packs made it great. But, I have been playing long enough to realize some of the limitations such as: in most scenerios there isn't 10 square feet of flat land to build on ANYWHERE, and when you build a large paved area or build a park with many loops and intersections in the paths the little people get confused, then angry, and because they are so stupid they can't find the exit, and you are bombarded with messages like "Guest XXXX is lost and cannot find the park exit". Ah, but there is a beacon of hope on the horizon: "Roller Coaster Tycoon 2" It seems like most of the problems in the original game will be solved in RCT2, plus there will be many improvements like more rides, more realistic rides, more scenery, and even a scenario editor. My advice is to wait for RCT2 to come out in what should be sometime around October this year. Trust me, you will be much happier waiting for a far superior product than you will be if you invest in software that will be obsolete in a few months.

I don't have any of the Roller Coaster Tycoon series so I decided to buy this 3 in 1 All Ride Pass. It turned to be a great game. I heard people say it is the best roller coaster game so I had to try it out myself and it was even better than expected! The animation was really cool and it acts like a normal theme park with conession stands and even to my favorite ROLLER COASTERS! Then it has normal favorite rides like Bumber Cars, train, monorail, log flumes and a rapids ride (tire ride that floats on the water A theme park favorite. You have to manage your park successfully to make lots of money to be a tycoon. Then the rest is expansion paks filled with more ROLLER COASTERS! Corkscrew Follies and Loopy Landscapes. The 3 in 1 game pak will keep you busy for the whole summer and then some! Buy it quickly, it was the coolest animations and sounds people screaming on roller coasters!

I have all three RCT games and loved everyminute of game play. I have spent many nights, all night, by my computer playing this game. It is so addictive. This is a very good game if you like tycoon games. I recommend you to buy this one instead of all three RCT games.

Very addictive and fun

I love this game and it is the best computer game out right now. Amusement park junkies will love this. I learned the hard way about how roller coasters work in this game, so here is a tip: if the coaster is going more than 10 mph, then bank the turn. Doing this allows for a less extreme ride that gets more riders. Anyway, the whole thing is great. The scenarios all get more challenging as you go up, but the hardest one of them all in the original pack is Rainbow Valley, because landscaping is not allowed. The expansion packs have a lot of good stuff in them, too, but you should start working on the original game scenarios first to get the hang of the game. Once you know how to build roller coasters the right way, it is lots of fun to start experimenting with bizarre twists, like sending the track through a loop (which requires careful positioning). The game altogether (with expansions) has about 25 different kinds of coasters, some varying from a simple straight line, like the Reverse Whoa Belly Roller Coaster design to long, fast, twisted track layouts, like the Steel Twister Roller Coaster. The gentle rides and thrill rides also rake in profits. Overall, this is a great game, recommended to gamers of all ages.

The Most Funnest Game That I've Currently Played

I first got into the RTC craze when I saw a student in my school back in May of 2001 playing RTC, I got onto the computer and played it, I was instantly hooked! I knew two expansion packs were available at the time but I was waiting for a release like this one that has RTC and the two expansion packs. I brought RTC Gold Edition recently and I've been playing it nonstop, I am totally hooked on RTC and I can't wait until RTC 2 is released. It'll be awesome running a Six Flags theme park and placing Six Flags roller coasters into existing parks made in RTC 2, I'm hoping that Maryland's [the state I live in] Six Flags theme park, Six Flags America, will be included with RTC 2. I'm going to preorder RTC 2 very soon.

Fun for ALL ages (and works in XP)

I bought this game as a Christmas gift and installed it on a single parent family's 1st computer. It went on without any "issues". The oldest boy (12 years old) watched me as I installed it and commented: "What a dumb game; it doesn't look like as much fun as (arcade) or pinball games". I told him confidentially that I had bought the game for his two "littler" sisters. I came back 2 days later and his mom says he started playing the game, now is playing it to the exclusion of all other computer games, is playing non-stop and hasn't come up for air!! Actually, he's learning how to run a business and make valid business decisions. He now has $250,000.00 and many many park customers; his mom couldn't be prouder of him. I hope he doesn't see this review (he still thinks it is a game).

This game has you doing it all: Building roller coasters, ferris wheels, merry-go-rounds, and all of the other types of rides you find at a typical amusement park. You also build food kisoks, drink kiosks, design the park layout, build footpaths, build park benches and trash recepticles, etc. And, you have to hire maintenance, custodial and security personnel. There is a lot of strategy involved and you must listen to your customers' feedback and act accordingly in order to have your park continue to grow and be patronized. This sounds overwhelming but the interface is VERY well laid out, is very intuitive, and, if you start slowly at first, you'll soon be in the "thick of things", totally immersed and having more fun than you ever thought possible from a "dumb old game".

Oh! And by the way, I didn't have to do anything "special" to get it to play on the XP system. I just installed it and was "good to go".

Great fun, but unstable on XP...

This is a great little title for anyone after an involving and detailed Sim game. As the title suggests, the object here is to design, develop and construct roller-coasters, and whole theme parks in which to place them. You can design your own custom-coasters with an easy to use point-and-click interface, or else pick from the predesigned models.

Indeed, this game can be as fluid or involving as you see fit; newbies will be able to dive right in and create a great instant-park, whilst the long term gamer can while away many an hour designing from scratch and testing their own custom rides (right down to the paint job). In addition , you can flesh out your park with food and drink stalls, balloon shops, decorative fountains and landscaping etc...there's tons to do, and its a very pleasant surprise when the AI customers start bestowing bonus awards on your carefully crafted park.

The only niggles I have stem from the age of the game. Its not fully 3D, so you can't freely rotate your park (only 4 way isometric views), which means things can get a bit difficult to see at times, especially when trying to build underground rides or landscaping. I've also had problems installing anything but the basic game on my XP system - the expansions claim my system is incompatible. Maybe there are some new drivers to take care of this, but just be warned.

On the plus side the game runs smooth as silk on my modern machine, even with the resolution cranked way up, and 1000+ guests in the park. This is a lovingly designed game thats suitable for all the family, and great for kids to learn about finiancing and economics in a fun way. Recommended!
