One of, if not the, best comic licensed 16-bit game ever

When one looks through the history of 16-bit video games, they will notice the unbelieveable number of comic-licensed side scrolling beat 'em ups (Spider-Man, Batman, Spawn, and the X-Men among others; funny because most of them were from Acclaim), most of which all played the same and really didn't offer much in the terms of fun and replayability. Sega's original X-Men game was an exception that captured some of the intensity of the comic and Fox cartoon, and its' sequel X-Men 2: The Clone Wars also excells above most of the other comic licensed games. You can choose to play as Beast, Cyclops, Gambit, Nightcrawler, Psylocke, and Wolverine, and after defeating Magneto on Asteroid M you get to play as him as well (and he is the best character in the game). The levels are huge and expansive and include Siberia, Asteroid M, the Amazon jungle, and the Phalanx clone laboritories. The bosses are tough and range from Apocalypse, Brainchild, Tusk, a Sentinel brain, clones of the X-Men, and the huge rampaging Brood beast that chases after you in the final level. The characters are nicely animated and are large, pixelated, and colorful and resemble they're comic counterparts. The control scheme is simple, and the background music is actually great (and that is saying something considering the Genesis didn't have the best sound chip in the world) and the difficulty will make you come back and play it again and again. All in all, if you still have your Genesis and are an X-Men fan then find this game quick, or if you still have this hold on to it.

Beautiful

I honestly loved this game. I am a moderate fan of X-men, but I don't love the game solely because of its license. It's the mechanics of it. The game is staged the arrival of an outer-space ship piloted by creatures bent on Earth's destruction, but despite the cliche premise, the game pulls it off extremely well. You have the selection of Cyclops, Wolverine, Gambit, and Nightcrawler ( all four from the original game), but now they are joined by Beast ( whose power is sticking to all sorts of walls) and Magneto ( finally, a non-hero! ). The characters are large, colorful, and well-animated. Now, for the game's aspects:

a) Controls - very tight, the game is a pleasure to handle. Moves are easy to pull off, but not accidental.

b) Graphics - large, colorful pixels. No choppy graphics or anything like pop-up that plagues most polygonal games.

c) Content - I would like to say that this is probably the best superhero game in existense. The game is hard, but not because of rarity of powerups or anything like that, but just because it IS HARD. The player powers are unlimited, but can be only achieved if the character is not hurt. The levels are VERY varied and long - from the intro in snowy Siberia ( which starts as soon as you turn the game on), to Magneto's asteroid M, to Apocalypse's jungle fortress, and beyond. The bosses and mini-bosses come often, and each is unique in pattern. The music is GREAT.

This game is unique in its quality and I recommend it to anyone who still owns a Genesis.

X-Men X-Treme!!

X-Men II:Clone Wars is a fantastic action-adventure game for the Genesis console. It boasts large character sprites, clean, colorful graphics, a huge number of intersting levels, and who doesn't like being able to pick Wolverine, Psylocke, Beast, Gambit, Cyclops, Nightcrawler, or even Magneto to play as before each level? The plot is fairly thin (so thin you won't even notice it), but that's not where the fun factor is: clean, fast, powerful action, big, varied levels (Siberian taiga to Asteroid X to the Amazon rainforests), and big, fast bosses make this game into a Genesis masterpiece.

this is the best x-men game you'll ever buy for the genesis the graphics are good, the gameplay is good. the diffucultiy is average. you have 7 charcters to pick from (cyclops, wolverine, beast, gambit, nightcrawler, psylock and Magneto) i think it is the best for any 16-bit system. a hell of a lot levels and you have a lot of codes to find and you'll find it reasonbly fun.

X-Men 2:Clone Wars is the best x-men game of all time. It has beautiful 2-d graphics and a good selection of characters. If you liked X-Men, you would love X-Men 2. Especially when you get to play as the almighty and invincible Magneto.

A great game

This game is cool so much better than the first one. You go through all these levels.( I hate the level where everything is blowing up around you and you have to get out before time runs out) The best thing about this game is that you get Magneto
(the strongest mutant in the known world) on your side, and it's really easy to beat him too, but once you get him you'll have no problem beating this game. A great sequel to an even greater series.

The first X-Men game is a classic but I also say the same for the Clone Wars video game.

The levels are even more complex than those on the first one and the music is even better as well.

My favorite level is the final one with the spinning discs that detach from the ceiling and explode on impact. The other favorite is one where the guy has to fight bad guys and then open up the floor opening to advance. What was really hilarious is when you pull the switch when there are still bad guys, the bad guys just simply blow up! So funny! The graphics are slightly cartoony but are really great too.

This game has a special place in my memory and hope that they re-release this on computer someday to play.

Don't use a 2 player co-op unless both of you are equals!!

This game is a greater improvement compared to the previous title. Your characters move much quicker, your mutant powers are unlimited, the graphics are a little better, and the difficulty is fair with the gameplay. This game definitley stood the test of time and is also better than Mutant Apocalypse for Super NES. You go through several levels fighting your way through armed ninjas, Acolyte soldiers, pre-historic reptiles, savage land mutants, phalanx robots and clones and the difficulty rises as you move on, so if you made it that far, you've been dared to face pure torture so plan wisely. Whatever you do, do not use a 2 player co-op unless your partner is as skilled and as fast paced as you because not only the overall gameplay slows down, but getting ahead will be difficult if he/she sucks. Like the previous game, the many obsticles you must face is not designed for a two player co-op. This isn't Ninja Turtles or Contra, so you can't mess up if you dare to use the 2 player co-op.

You have the original lineup: Cyclops, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Gambit. Gambit and Cyclops' mutant powers are weak and so are their jumping, but their speed is up to par. Wolverine and Nightcrawler stand out from all the characters because they can climb and crawl on walls and ceilings, can jump high, and are the quickest characters, not to mention Wolverine's strong mutant attack and healing factor (if you wait a few minutes when your health is running low). There are three new mutants in the roster. Psylocke has the highest jump, best ranged attack, and strongest mutant power attack(unfortunatley robots are immune to her psychic knife). Beast's regular attacks and mutant attacks are the strongest, but his speed is not up to par. Both Psylocke and Beast can stick onto walls, but can't crawl like Wolverine and Nightcrawler. As for Magneto, if you think it is easy street to finally control one of the most powerful mutants in the world, think again. To balance out the rest of the characters, Magneto was designed to be the slowest character in the game of which he has only two weak attacks (projectles only), but he can float on command. As I recall, he's only useful for one level (which is the Apocalypse level for obvious reasons).

This game is worth adding to your genesis collection and so far one of the best Marvel Comics licensed games for a 16-bit system. Just becareful and take this game seriously cause its hhhhaaaaaarrrrrrrrrdddddddddd, but fun!!!
