Shiny, but not polished

I was expecting great things of this game, due to the rave reviews it recieved and also the recommendations that people buy this game if they couldn't get ahold of Gran Turismo 2. While the game does have good graphics, responsive control, and a soundtrack that rivals the best, it does have a few flaws.

It is far too easy for an opponent to flip your car onto its side, and even a little brush up against the side of the track sends you airborn. This hinders game play severly and prevents a higher rating, simply due to the fact that frustration sets in; something that shouldn't be overtly present in a five-star game.

If you can manage to get over the fact that your car is on its side and top more than you would like, then this is the rally game for you. If not, perhaps Gran Turismo 2's rally race option will be more to your liking.

Vrally2 - First Impression

Well, I just got Vrally2, and it is DEFINETLY worth it. A big improvement from Vrally1. The Championship mode is more realistic to real-world rallying in which you race against the clock as opposed to directly against the competition..however, there is still a "trophy" mode where racing against other cars is still possible. My favorite thing about Vrally2 so far is the inclusion of bonus cars from past seasons such as the Escort Cosworth, Celica Turbo, etc. Skill levels (Easy, medium hard) are gone, with the competition getting tougher as you progress. One of the best racing games I've played yet.

The best rally racing game for the PSX.

I didn't like the first V-Rally much because of how easily your car flips over or spin out, but V-Rally 2 is a big improvement over the first game. The gameplay is still challenging and if you're not careful, you'll still find your car flipping over, but it's not as bad as in the first game. Graphics are way better, and with an Arcade mode, Trophy Mode, and Championship mode to play through, as well as a good bunch of cars to choose from and unlock, this game will keep you coming back again and again. Gameplay is improved as success races depend on how well you swerve your car in the turns rather than how well you use the parking brake from the first game. Car and driving options are great so you can adjust how the car performs to your liking and you'll find that V-Rally 2 offers plenty more camera views than most other driving games out there including V-Rally 1.

My only gripe is that I find the tracks a bit too narrow which doesn't allow me to drive all out. Expect to slow down quite a bit around turns and avoiding crashing into opponents, but on clear straightaways you can get some really good speed.

Overall, a great game for racing game fans and definitely one to pick up.

Get ready to rumble!

This is one very addictive game. I've played V-rally 1 many, many times, but V-rally 2 exceeds the first version by far.Graphics are improved, more cars, lots of bonus cars, build your own track, you name it, and it's there. In the beginning, when you're still used to V-rally 1, the sequell is a bit harder to keep on the road. But, as you grow in the game, so do your steering capabilities, and before you know it, you're drifitng through every corner there is..I admit it: I'm an addict, and I'm proud of it!

So close to what's-his-name it's uncanny

If you're looking for a rally racing experience on PSX, you've got many choices, but the top 2 are definitely Colin McRae Rally (from Sony) and this, V-Rally 2 from EA. My advice, don't get both, as it is absolutely bizarre how many similarities there are between the titles. I won't go into detail, but it's obvious that the 2 titles knew of each other's existence.

The graphics are bigger and bolder in VR2, and the action is faster. You will actually see other cars on the track and race them rim to rim, unlike CMR where racing is done strictly by stage, without ever seeing other cars on the road. VR2 is more difficult, though not impossible. And VR2 has one feature that seperates it from CRM: a track creator. Getting bored with the same old tracks? Just make your own. Sorta takes one back to Excitebike on 8-bit NES. CRM seems to be more of a simulation, and deeper than VR2, with many things to learn, in addition to some Gran-Turismo-esque "license tests".

And that might be the deciding factor, are you more inclined to play an arcade-style rally game (a la Sega Rally) or do you want a game that has less flash, but more substance (a la Gran Turismo). Both games are tremendous (yeah, I have both) but unless you're a true rally racing freak, you could easily settle for one of the two. The choice is yours.

I have all the EA Racing games. This is the best yet. Most real feel, best ARCADE play. I got this in June of 2000. Before this program i got Porsche Unleashed in April. As my skill with Unleashed progressed, so did my pleasure playing the game. Since i got V Ralley 2, i have not even looked back at Unleashed. There is no comparison. V Ralley is one of the most FUN games i have ever played. CONGRATS to EA!

Best racing game on the Playststion (except for GT2 which I have not played yet). However it will have to be really good to beat V-rally 2. I purchased a Wheel (Concept 4) and that makes it even more realistic. For all racing fans (especially those who love ralling) this is a must buy!

When I first started playing this, I was bothered by the tendancy of the car to flip whenever hitting angled terrain. Once I learned to drive however, this game hit the spot for my racing hunger. I love racing, I can't get enough of it on PC or PSX, and this is #1 for PSX for me (Tread Marks is my PC fave right now). With the wide selection of cars and tracks, this can't be beat for a wide flavor of racing. On top of the racing variety, there are the types of gameplay. You can go arcade for that "I just need a racing fix" feeling, or play Tournament, head-to-head, or World Champion. World Championship has the best depth as you actually have to perform repairs on your car, and you pay for those repairs with racing minutes, which effect your world ranking.

This game is what PSX is all about.

Most fun I had in a racing game

At first there was High Stakes, which I loved, but now I beated all the tournaments and special events with gold trophies, I was a little bored out. When I first bought V-Rally 2, it was just a waste of time and money, I was playing High Stakes instead and V-Rally 2 was just collecting dust. Then I tried it again, this time it was much different, it was much more fun than I thought. I tried all modes, arcade, championship, etc. and when I was racing with a friend, it was the most fun I had in a racing game! The game is pretty tight! Recommend to all you racing fans out there. EA does a wonderful job with it's racing sims!
