Totally unique and 100% fun!

Rocket Slime is a great game that features a fun story line and totally unique game play. Don't let the cutesy graphics scare you away if you're an adult, this game is VERY deep. It's part RPG and part Pokemon (collecting monsters) with really fun and totally original tank battles. The only downside of the game is the lack of Wi-Fi. The tank battles would have been perfect over Nintendo Wi-Fi. Even with this flaw, it's still great. You've never played a game like this! Get it now!

"No Spine, Just Guts!" The game is as good as the tagline!

The Dragon Quest universe, as a whole, is a heck of a FUN place to visit. It's simply chock full of wonder, be it found in the heroes that sacrifice all to save the day, the numerous creatures that roam the land, the intricate locations themselves...or any number of the many addicting aspects of the gameplay itself that have been offered. But perhaps the best part of the deal is that potential players are offered the chance to take up the roles of these great adventurers (heck, "you" even become the hero with several nameless characters) and experience that wonder yourself through a variety of different means.

The latest opportunity to jump right in and experience a universe that millions have come to enjoy is found in the form of Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime for the Nintendo DS. In the game you play as Rocket, one of the inhabitants of Slimenia who has seen his town blasted nearly to ruins, and his family and friends kidnapped by the hands of a ruthless gang known as the Plob. To what end? That's for you to gather your gumption and find out, and it's definitely a journey worth embarking on.

It didn't take much to convince me after seeing some of the gameplay mechanics, character designs, etc. that this would be another DQ game that I was going to enjoy, but I was completely sold at two different points on the game prior to its release. The first thing to really get me on the bandwagon was a pre-release trailer by Square-Enix that animated the basic premise of the game, which I explained above. Towards the end there is a moment when Rocket is introduced to a massive tank at his disposal, and his sorrow slowly turns to hope that perhaps he can save his townfolk - and his frown turns to a smile. Once inside, we see him taking a moment to gather his bravery, by remembering his parents, before loading himself inside a massive cannon and flying through the air to attack the enemy. Sold! I knew I definitely wanted to be there to experience that adventure. The second instance came in the form of a gameplay explanation that Rocket would be able to infiltrate enemy tanks, cause massive amounts of destruction to them...and in many cases, march right up to the enemy, attack, and load them into their own weapon to find themselves flying away much to their dismay. If I wasn't already convinced, there was no question upon reading that.

A large portion of the gameplay in Rocket Slime is in the form of tank battles consisting of yourself, your crew and an opposing tank (filled with humor). Your goal is to whittle down the hit points of the opposing tank to "0" and then deliver the killing blow to the tanks engine which results in it's explosion and a reward for all your efforts. Strategy becomes a must in these battles as the enemy is just as busy trying to destroy your tank, as you are theirs. Cancelling out their attacks with your own is necessary, as is gathering up your mettle, and marching over to their tank to do some damage. The challenge grows as you progress, and executing the battles more effectively is one of the more entertaining aspects of the game. Aside from the aforementioned tank battles, much of your time is spent exploring levels throughout the game, collecting ammo for your tank, and in completing other tasks. As you travel, you encounter the many foes standing in your way and in slimey fashion, you defeat them by using the unique abilities at your disposal, namely, stretching yourself and blasting them left and right. It's a simple ability, but it holds hour upon hours of entertainment as you learn the ins and outs of what you can do, what you need to do to progress, grow stronger et al. Don't be fooled though, it's not a simplistic game for some of it's simple features - despite the playful tone - there are moments when you'll have to employ strategy to stay in the game, and you'll need to invest some time into being prepared for your next step.

The graphics in the game, as ever, are inspired by the designs of Akira Toriyama and they vividly come to life on the DS platform. If you've enjoyed the best that the Legend of Zelda has had to offer in it's top-down view, then you'll know what you have to look forward to here. And if you're new to any of these conventions, then you're still going to enjoy it I'd reckon.

If you're looking for a game that you can pick up and play anytime, that you'd like to invest some time with, or simply because it looks like a lot of fun, then you can't go wrong with this one. It's recently won widespread recognition as "Game of the Month" in several publications, including Electronic Gaming Monthly and IGN. If you're new to the world of Dragon Quest, welcome aboard - and if you're returning with this game, welcome back!

A must have

Do you like adventure games? Get this. Do you like collecting things? Get this. Do you like Dragon Quest? Get this. Do you like cutesy monsters? Get this. Do you own a DS? Get this. This is a great little game that manages to be fun from start to finish without ever getting monotonous. It does feel a bit short, but it IS a handheld game so you can't exactly expect an 80 hour epic. This is the sort of game that makes you remember why simple is good and less is more. It's easy to pick up and play, and it's easy to get addicted to.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised at the number of reader reviews there are for this game, as supposed to a more publicized game like Contact. Or maybe this was publicized, I dunno. I picked up Rocket Slime several weeks after it was released, and only because I found a used copy of it at EB Games for 24.99, and the EB card offers 10% discount (plus there was a promotional additinal 15% off)

And boy was it a good pickup. It was sitting in my (at the time) small pile of DS games. On the 5 hour flight to the East Coast, I decided to pop it into my DS and ended up playing it even while I was deplaning and waiting for my baggage at the baggage claim.

There's two main venues of action, the first being the main RPG in which you go around fighting as a blue slime in an active fighting RPG. The second are these hilariously fun tank battles, which aren't too difficult, but fun nonetheless.

My only complaint with this game was that it was ridiculously easy. I don't think I died at any point in the game, neither in the tank battle or the dungeon progression. Still, it's a small taint on a fun, time consuming RPG that's hard to put down.

Rocket Slime is one of the more underrated DS titles available in my opinion, mainly because it was overshadowed by New! Super Mario Bros. when it was released. It's a very pleasant pickup, and a very enjoyable time on your DS, and I highly recommend it.

$29.99 retail, hasn't gone very far from that, but easy to find used for cheaper. The retail is worth the game.

Fun, Challenging, and Something New!

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime is one of the cutest and most clever games that I've played in a while. Since I've never really played a Dragon Quest game before, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. But, the well-crafted story and innovative gameplay really make this title stand out more than I thought it would. Oh, and the constant slime puns don't hurt either.

I really like how every slime you rescue and every monster you kill has a personality - that's a really cool level of detail I wish that more games had. Not only that, but even though there are a lot of elements to the game, they build up slowly so you don't get too overwhelmed. My only regret? This game almost feels like it could have been a GBA title. Which is a shame, because those without DS's are missing out on an awesome game.

This game is totally deserving of EGM's "Game of the Month". Don't let the "cutesy" graphics steer you away!

A must have gem for the Nintendo DS

If you're a Dragon Warrior/Quest fan and you don't have this game stop reading this and go buy it. Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime is a cute, hilarious, and entertaining game that finally gives our favorite breed of monster the respect they deserve.

The Story: You're a cute little slime that goes by the name of Rocket. One day you're happily playing with your friends when these monsters called "The Plob" ransack your village and kidnap all your friends. Luckily you're a crafty little slime, and are able to come into possession of a giant kick butt tank.

The Gameplay: In Rocket Slime you spend your time doing two things. Exploring and collecting things to improve your tank, and kicking major plob butt in your tank. The tank battles are always enjoyable. They involve shooting various objects at your enemy to destroy their tank. You can also infiltrate your enemies tank, and sabotage the inside of it. There is something about launching yourself out of a cannon into your enemies tank and sabotaging it that is always most satisfying.

Overall I would give this game a 4.5/5. The gameplay is great, but perhaps a little too easy.

looking for a unquie but fun over all game well i metablackdragon say go out and get this game. You do must of the things with the a button like jump float and you power attack. The gameplay is fun and even through you have to solve some simple puzzles the game never gets old. YOu hit an enemy and you can throw him on a cart to take him back to town or you can just toss him. Even after you find all 100 slime there is more to do like tank battles. Items you through on the cart most of them can be used in the tank. This is one unqiue dragon quest game so if your a fan or just want to have fun go pick this up now.

Rocket slime Rocets into our hearts.

Rocket Slime isn't necessarily for the hardcore gamer. It's not very difficult and it oozes cute. However, lurking beneath this layer of sugary cuteness is a game that is, quite simply, fun. The adventuring portions get the job done and are fun enough, but the moment you climb into your monster tank for the first time, I promise you will be hooked. The tank battles are a blast. Hectic and strategic in a way that younger players can ignore, play, and have fun, but older gamers can tweak to fit their own personal style and create various plans of attack. You can also play these tank battles in multiplayer (though not on the WiFi Connection), which I haven't done yet, but am greatly looking forward to. The ride isn't necessarily that long. I've been playing the game pretty solid for the last 3 days and have almost beat it. But while it lasts, it is tons of fun. If you're looking for something different than normal and just simply a great time, I can wholeheartedly suggest Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime.
