Rocket Slime is a great new addition to the DQ world

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 3

After a few hours of playing this game I am very happy to have bought Rocket Slime. The game has some old school elements that Dragon Quest fans will pick up on right away along with some new things as well that new fans will enjoy. The game play is cute and very entertaining as you control one of Dragon Quest's most famous monsters, a slime. The slime's name is Rocket and it is his job to save 100 of his townspeople who are also slimes from the "Plob". The Plob is a mafia type group run by Don Clawleone.
The control of the game is fresh and entertaining and takes only a few minutes to get acquainted with the basic controls of Rocket. Rocket is able to pick up objects to throw them, smash into them, and also float around. Rocket can also unlock and explore a cute little world filled with creatures.
Another really fun aspect to the game is the Tank battles. These battles are very entertaining as you take your tank, The Schlieman Tank and battle various members of the Plob on your quest to save your fellow slimes. You use ammo that you collected from dungeons and such and control Rocket while shooting 2 cannons at your enemy. The tank battles also use items you have found and or created in the game using alchemy to combine items into more powerful items. The tank battles also have a fun multiplayer option to battle your friends and their own tanks.
The graphics in Rocket Slime are not pushing the envelope for DS capabilities but and great none the less. This game is perfectly suited for the DS and I could not imagine this game being capable on any other system.
Sound/music in Rocket slime is very cute and upbeat. Fans of the series will notice little chimes and sounds from previous DQ games. The sound does a good job in playing on the feel of the moment and is the type of music that you will catch yourself humming though out the day!
Overall the game is very entertaining and a great addition to the Dragon Quest series. You meet lots of cute characters, the story is filled with a little bit of humor and subtle clichés, and the look of the game is a welcome addition on the DS. If you are a fan of the Dragon Quest series, Zelda (Yes I did say Zelda) or just looking for a great little adventure game you owe it to yourself to pick this game up! On a score from 1 to 10 on this game, this game gets a solid 9.0.

Rocket into the Dragon Quest World!

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime is the latest entry in the insanely popular Japanese Dragon Quest series. In this game for the Nintendo DS, you take on the role of Rocket, a happy, stretchy Slime. Slimes have become the mascot of the Dragon Quest series due to their cuteness and they are often the first enemy encountered.

One day Rocket's hometown of Slimenia is savagely attacked by The Plob. The Plob capture 100 of Rocket's family and friends and it is up to little Rocket to rescue them. Rocket soon finds himself outgunned when he comes face-to-face with The Plob's giant battle tank. Luckily, a Slimenia legend leads him to discover his own battle tank setting the stage for massive tank-to-tank battles fought both with projectiles and slime-to-hand combat.

Don't let the "kiddie" presentation fool you. There's plenty of depth to this game. The tank battles are frantic and intense. Between gathering the proper ammo and firing them in the proper orders and trajectories, defending your tank against infiltrating commandos, and keeping your 3-slime crew on task you won't find a minute's respite!

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime is a blast to play and it is a sign that the hits are going to keep rolling in!

My first Dragon Quest game and it's a great one!

I've never played any of the Dragon Quest games, so this whole franchise is new to me. I knew about it, but never played it. I do love action RPG style games and the Legend of Zelda series, so after reading reviews and seeing people say good things about Rocket Slime, I decided to take a chance and buy the game. I was not disappointed!

It's on the cute side, but this is not a bad thing, nor is it a "kiddie" thing. It's like a cross between The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past, and Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga. It's a very simple game to pick up and learn and even though it has RPG elements, it does not require that much learning.

You are a cute blue slime who finds himself the only "person" left after an attack on his village and it's up to Rocket to find his friends and save the day. The dialogue is actually pretty funny and uses LOTS of puns on slime and anything gooey or slime-like. It made me laugh quite a bit. With characters like "Mother Glooperior" who says "Bless you, my slime" how can it not be fun?

The gameplay is fun too. You can stretch your body and snap yourself in 8 directions to knock enemies or items over. If you stand under them you can catch them and carry up to 3 on your head at once. There's a lot of strategy to this too, since some puzzles require you to have a specific monster or group of items on your head to pass. You will also be able to send all these things back to town to be used in your tank. There are carts and rafts in various areas that you can toss your items onto and send them back to town.

The other main gameplay area is the tank. After a while you will get a large tank to do battle with the bad guys, and here the gameplay changes. You see the two tanks on the top screen and you control Rocket on the bottom screen. You toss ammo into the cannons, and later on you can get fellow slime to help you out with these tasks. It's all very fun and fast paced.

So, for me, this was a great introduction into the Dragon Quest universe and another feather in Square-Enix's cap. I highly reccommend picking up a copy of this game even if you are not into RPG's.

Great DS game that shouldn't be overlooked

You may be like me...a DQ/DW fan who saw early reviews and screenshots that depicted this game as "kiddie", and decided to pass on it.

Hopefully, though, you did what I did...read all of the great things being said about it closer to the release.

Rocket Slime is a fun game that blends RPG elements, Pokemon-esque monster collecting, and adventure game qualities. You can almost think of it as Zelda without the Master Sword.

Basic premise: you're a Slime, one of the most beloved monsters of the DQ series. Your town is attacked by the evil Plob, creatures with cat tails bent on destroying the Slime way of life. They kidnap the citizens of your town, and it's up to you to save them. Shortly after defeating the first boss, you gain control of a large, slime-shaped tank, and later, tank battles are introduced into the game.

The controls are simple, making this a perfect pick-up-and-go game. The graphics are 2-D, but they fit with the series (save DQ VII). The storyline is amusing, with plenty of bad puns that'll give you a good laugh.

The only downside to it is that true multiplayer requires all players to have the game...but really, every DS owners should have this in their library.

It's a game I highly recommend to someone looking for a simple-yet-involved RPG/adventure game.

Simply a Blast pun Intended!

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime is a spin-off series from the main game Dragon Quest. In the vein of the real game, you get to play as a monster, a slime named Rocket. Your mission if you so choose is to venture out and collect all your 100 friends by means of adventuring through levels much like The Legend of Zelda. While adventuring you are constantly collecting items and monsters through means of knocking them up into the air and throwing them onto a train or barge back to town. All that hard work is for naught; everything you collect will in turn help out your tank.

Asides from adventuring and collecting friends/monsters/items, the tank battle portion of the game is the second half. Here RPG elements come to play as you can upgrade your tank, its crew and the ammo! The adventuring lasts about 10 hours while upgrading your tank and collecting monsters will definitely double that amount of time.

Multiplayer features players duking it out with their customized tanks. Having the best ammo and crew doesn't guarantee a definite win amongst players. A smart player will have a clear strategy. Timing shots and using the correct items for the right situation and learning the mechanics, help immensely. In a way the tank battles play out like a card collecting game and the ammo you produce are your cards. The different ammo combinations you choose to use are infinite.

The adventuring game is very simple but tank battles can be hard and complex as you want them to be. Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime will definitely hold your attention and keep your hands glued to your DS.

looking for a unquie but fun over all game well i metablackdragon say go out and get this game. You do must of the things with the a button like jump float and you power attack. The gameplay is fun and even through you have to solve some simple puzzles the game never gets old. YOu hit an enemy and you can throw him on a cart to take him back to town or you can just toss him. Even after you find all 100 slime there is more to do like tank battles. Items you through on the cart most of them can be used in the tank. This is one unqiue dragon quest game so if your a fan or just want to have fun go pick this up now.

Rocket slime Rocets into our hearts.

Rocket Slime isn't necessarily for the hardcore gamer. It's not very difficult and it oozes cute. However, lurking beneath this layer of sugary cuteness is a game that is, quite simply, fun. The adventuring portions get the job done and are fun enough, but the moment you climb into your monster tank for the first time, I promise you will be hooked. The tank battles are a blast. Hectic and strategic in a way that younger players can ignore, play, and have fun, but older gamers can tweak to fit their own personal style and create various plans of attack. You can also play these tank battles in multiplayer (though not on the WiFi Connection), which I haven't done yet, but am greatly looking forward to. The ride isn't necessarily that long. I've been playing the game pretty solid for the last 3 days and have almost beat it. But while it lasts, it is tons of fun. If you're looking for something different than normal and just simply a great time, I can wholeheartedly suggest Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime.

Don't let the "kiddie" look deceive you; Rocket Slime is one of the most enjoyable games for the Nintendo DS, and will entertain gamers of all ages.

Play as the loveable slime, Rocket, as he sets of on a quest to rescue 100 of his kidnapped friends and restore peace to the kingdom. The game is played from an overhead perspective, and plays similarly to the 2D Zelda games.

You'll encounter characters from the Dragon Quest series, but unlike most spinoffs, this is an excellent game that doesn't simply rely on cute homages to its big brothers.

Rocket Slime should fulfill any DS owner's need for Action-RPG until the new Zelda game arrives next year, and will no doubt be just as enjoyable even after that point.
