Horrible game

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 3 / 18

Star Ocean 2 was a very bad game in my opinion. It's battles were dull and I felt I jus had to keep pressing the X button to attack. Characters have no development, I have no attachment to them, they're just there to fight, the only people who have a story are the two main characters and maybe a few supporting characters. The story is dull, translation isn't that good, very boring game. You are better getting Tales of Destiny, Lunar, FF8 or Suikoden 2.

I was completely unsatisfied.

The backgrounds are beautiful. The music is nice. The battle system is unique.

Those three things are all I am willing to concede to this game. Otherwise, I was completely disappointed by the game.

Most of the subsystems in the game, including items, recipes, and techniques, are overly complicated and only the most meticulous gamer will find joy in experimenting with the thousands of ways to minutely improve a character's vital statistics. Nonsensical character reactions make the game seem like something in pop-Japanese culture is not translating well to the American version of the game.

I couldn't tolerate the character emoticons. Every piece of dialog in the game is preceded by a 1 to 3 second emoticon (small animated picture) displayed next to the speaking characters head. Supposedly this helps portray the emotion of the speaking character. This feature makes the already weak plot drag on with mind numbing slowness.

I consider any source that gives this game a high rating as an unreliable source.

Not worth the money.

To be quite honest, I found this to be the most tedious role-playing game I've ever played. The narrative sequences are ridiculously long, the graphics are mediocre, and the mechanics of controlling other characters in combat is poorly designed. I read a lot of good reviews of this game before I bought it, and I was terribly disappointed.

Worst game I ever played

This game is the worst game I have ever played. It seems like it takes over a half an hour just to do somthing interesting in the game, you just walk around this stupid town and talk to people. And thats about all you seem to do for most of the game is talk to people. It gets old real fast. I admit that I thought this game was cool when I got it. That was a year ago. And I havnt even finished it yet, and I really dont want to. Its so boring watching them talk for hours at a time. I found another problem with the game as well the battle system is hard to use, I thought so anyway, and the items you need for battle are just way to much money, and usually you cant afford to buy them, atleast thats how it was for me. Im a huge RPG fan, actually those are the only games I will play, but this game is just so bad dont bother to buy it. If you want to see how bad it is rent it first, dont waste your money and buy it, you will wish you haddent.

DON'T BUY THIS GAME!

This is by far the worst game I have ever played! I rented it, thinking that it was gonna be so great I would have to buy it later. It was just so boring, the dialogue was not translated well, the story is stupid, the characters are morons, the jokes are awful, and it takes an hour just to get into a battle. Don't get this game!!!...

yeah, nice intro, cool begining, you have 80 different endings and 2 characters to play; but there it stops in hype. The story is so typiical, the script or what they say its aweful and the action battle scenes are clumsy to use, and who would play this game 80 times to see the ending i could barley do one before going crazy with the slow and corny dialogue of the sequences, it just didnt stick to you...save your money, buy lunar trust me..

When I first saw this game, I thought it would be really cool...and it is...for the first like hour or so. The story line is pretty good, but the narrative parts are just way to long. And the battle system is horrible. The graphics are pretty good, but that really doesnt make up for how bad this game really is. If you want a good rpg, get one of the Final Fantasy games, just dont wast your money on this game, I wish I didnt.

A Fine Example of a Bland Game

From the get-go I knew I was in trouble for buying this game... it was 20 bucks & I bored. This game didn't remedy my situation. Our hero is sucked away to a far off planet just because he's suffering a heavy dose teen angst. As I continued to play I relized that for any RPG to be good it has to excell in something worthwhile. Save for a nice battle system, everything else seemed to have been done before, resulting in an awfuly bland and boreing gameing experience. I shouldn't be so critical of the story, I've read that others have loved it, but lets face it, its bland and nothing new. The characters are, as with any RPG, over dramatized and whiny, making for two points of disintrest: bland story, whiny characters. Was I still bored? Yes. But at the same time...disgusted. Why? Because of the realization that I blew twenty bucks on game that offered nothing more than polished up annoyance. I say polished up because the game did offer a few +'s: the villages were nice to look at, the musical score was somewhat moving, and even as few as they were, the FMV's were crisp and entertaining. But, because of the story that managed to have a character I hated from the beginning and having him go on tedious missions that resulted in encounters with other characters that managed to annoy me just the same, the game was, and is, an endurance test. One not at all recomended!

Star Ocean: A ton of fun...for a while.

I really enjoyed this game when I first got it. The many people you could have in your party, the infinite items that could be made and the captivating story line. Then...it got stale. FAST. You spend more time making items then you do actually playing the RPG part of the games. You want to strangle some of the characters, but you can't (RENA! ), and the words they put in the characters mouths...Let's just say no one really talks like that. it's like watching "Plan 9 From Outer Space." What the game lacks is pace, it makes up for in the amazing battle system and the many endings, but you may find yourself screaming, "Get on with it!"
