Decent button masher

If you like Marvel heroes and enjoy beating up mindless henchmen, you will like this game. It's not a very deep gameplay experience and tends to be a bit on the easy side, but it's still fun, especially in multiplayer.

RENT this game.

Spiderman:
----------------
Basically when you first start playing this game you have no problem learning the control scheme. I dont mean that its dull, I mean that its simple to pick up and start smashing baddies. Its also a fun game to play because the combo system mixes it up more than the basic punch/block of the old sidescrolling fighters of yore (spiderman pulls off really, really sick combos devil may cry style).

Peter Parker:
-----------------
After these positives you eventually get to the negatives of why you should not spend 60 dollars on this game. First of all, its about as deep as a kiddy pool. They try to mix it up with unlockable characters and special moves upgradable for your favorite alliance member. The problem is, the unlockable characters include "Miss Marvel" (WHO IS THAT???? WHERE IS THE INCREDIBLE HULK!?) and also the upgradable moves are pointless since I only used spiderman and zerged the game. Also, the "RPG" part of this game just slows it down for the action fans and the action is too fast for RPG fans. I wish they would learn that an "Action-RPG" is almost an oxymoron.

Secondly, and I dont know if its just my PS3, but it seems like all the launch games including this one take inexplainable framerate dumps. I dont know whether to blame Sony for not giving companies decent dev kits or what, but this shouldnt happen on "Next-Gen" systems.

The Story
--------------
I think I saw a review that said "Its a great game to play between playing other games" and I couldnt agree more...which is why I dont advise anyone to spend 60 bucks on it unless they are either a hardcore marvel fan (which I am because im like Peter Parker sans nuclear spider bite.) or an action fan who cant wait for anything else. Otherwise just buy this game used or rent it, im sure the people who bought it new will be beating it soon and selling it.

are you kidding me

rented this mainly because i wanted to 1080p graphics; this game is a joke. another poor quality game from activision; save your money, not even worth a rental. activision spends more money on marketing than game quality.

Graphics are great but motion control is bad. No one is ever online to play - which is very strange.

Buy it only on a discount.

If you like comics and RPGs, this game is for you. Looks really good in HD and sounds great with Dolby Digital Surround.

I like the way they give alittle backstory on each character and there are lots of hidden items and unlockable characters and costumes.

Well worth the price of admission.

I personally liked it. I'm not that much of a die hard comic fan except when it comes to The Punisher (where was he by the way) but this game was very action packed and fun. It was very good for a 1st launch (keyword) game.

The game itself is good, the game on this system is not.

I played this on my friend's 360 and then on my own Playstation 3. (I confess that I'm a Playstation fan -- bought the PS1, PS2, and now the PS3.)

The frame rate and color depth on the PS3 version are pretty depressing in comparison to the 360 version. Sure, it's a simple little game; jump around and hack and slash or use your specials. It's a mindless sort of fun. Simple. But you'd think they could do more with a $600 system and such a "simple" game. It's not like it's using photo-realistic graphics or anything, and yet... I feel like I'm using a really slow computer to play a really graphically enhanced game. Needless to say, I feel very let down. The game itself is good, the game on this system is not.

At least I still have Fight Night...

A game between games!

I couldn't have said it better myself! This game is lame, I cant stand the camera angles. I ordered it because I knew I wouldnt get the game I wanted to play the same day I got the PS3. I wouldn't recommend spending $60 on it, but if you have nothing else to play, it was fun!

Without Dr. Doom playable, this game sucks.

This game was an amazing game until xbox 360 got Dr. Doom as a playable character. The greatest hero in the marvel universe should be playable on all systems. Other characters are ok, but the ps3 bump over the ps2 version is mainly graphics. colossus' grab moves are amusing but who the hell cares about moon knight? If people want to play as batman they should buy a DC game rather than settle for the cheeesy marvel knock off version. Overall the game is very fun and I will modify my review to 5 stars the game would otherwise deserve if they come out with Dr. Doom as a playable.
