Worth the effort

I have been playing Kinetic for two months and have seen great weight loss results. I have saved 6 routines so I pick a different one each day so it does not get repetitive. What I like most about this workout is I don't notice the time passing while I workout.

I turn off the TV volume and play either my stereo or ipod to get around the repetitive music. Playing the game without the wide-lens attachment has helped the Eyetoy pick up my movements. You can use the controller to move more quickly between games in a routine to keep your heartrate up. You may need to put your furniture on sliders if you have a small space so you can move it out of the way in order to have room and avoid the game picking up outside objects. Once you know where the game is not picking up your movements, adding a lamp or night-light in that spot will help. Setting up the lighting is annoying but takes the same time as getting out the mats, steps or hand weights that other workout videos require.

This workout definitely keeps things interesting and hard enough to see results. It is well worth a few minutes of set up time to look forward to working out each day.

Great workout...once you get the camera figured out

I got this for Christmas and started the 12 week program yesterday after trying some of the individual routines. I'm actually a little sore today. I spent a lot of time experimenting with the camera position and lighting, but eventually got it to work. I had to use the dim room setting, set the camera sensitivity to low and like other reviewers said, you really do need a large room to do this. This might actually be a workout that I can stick with (I get bored easily). The routines are varied and they feel more like games than exercise. I would definitely (and already have) recommend this to friends.

I purchased Kinetic 2 weeks ago to help with my unmotivated desire to get in better shape. After some tinkering with the camera and the lighting in my house, I was hard at work/play. The idea of the game is really cool, and both my wife and I have used in daily. I am on my second week of personal trainer mode, and I am already feeling much better, plus it's just fun to do. I can exercise in the warmth of my home, and the games keep score and give you a grade so it feeds my competitive side also. A couple of things could be cons on the game. First, you need plenty of space. I have to stand about 10 feet from the TV, so a small area is out of the question. Second, there really can't be any other motion going on in the room. I have to wait until my kids are in bed, because even if they are in the open room behind my living room (15 feet or so back), it detects them. Overall, my wife and I have agreed that the purchase of Kinetic was well worth the money.

Just One Problem

The game itself, is excellent. A great idea and put to good use to get people up and moving while having fun. The game gets you working hard and working up a sweat. It has plenty of options, like entering your weight, height, and it asks you questions to see where you should be as in difficulty.

Now with the game down, this is where the problem kicks in, the camera. Eyetoys just still aren't meant for this type of game. To get this game to work you pretty much have to be in a plain white room and plenty of lighting and space. You will be tinkering with it and never get it perfect. With the camera you will become frusterated with the game. So for now, save your cash, untill they release a better camera.

I consider myself tech savy. I also consider myself open to new ideas. Thats why when I heard about this product I was intrigued in that it pormised a new and innovative way to work out.

That was the theory behind the product anyway. The program itself is fine. The problem that for the product to be effective as a whole there needs to be seemless integration with the hardware-the eye toy. Plainly spoken, the eye toy does not have the sensitivity and accuracy to pull this off. I have followed the instructions exactly and have experimented many hours on the lighting and also changing the background so that it may improve its performance-without much success.
In execution, this turns this product into a excercie in frustration. Do yourself a favor, don't buy this. If you want a good program consider yourself! fitness. I have used that product for months now. It is very effective and elegantly executed.

Kinetic for PS2 is a cool idea

I'm almost 40. I never work out and should but I've never found anything to hold my attention or that I enjoy - this is totally fun and a real exercise - everything hurt after my first run through. It takes you through a warm up and a workout, then a cool down and stretch. The lady instructor is funny - she carries herself like Angelina Jolie and has a bit of an accent. Once I was tired and sat down and she said "ello ello is there anyone out there" in her english/british accent - it was fuuny. I've recommended it to all my friends. But, just like all workouts, if you want results, you have to do it :)

Average, not worth $50 though.

After my first time playing the game I would have given the overall package a perfect 5 stars. Then, about after a couple days of play I began to notice all the annoying kinks in the game. The eyetoy itself requires a lot of space and a lot of lighting. I'm lucky enough that I barely have any furniture in my living room, but I still had to push everything further out. During my gameplay I noticed that the eyetoy would take points away for objects hitting my couch or the wall, making my score impossible to recover from. After a game I could tell that the calories burned was completely off, mainly because of the poor scoring done by the eyetoy. In the end of a session I would get a really bad score, and it would judge my performance poorly. It defintely isn't accurate in judging athleticism or skill.

I tried out the personal trainer mode, and it is not anything exceptional. Its not as "customized" as you may think. If you're looking for a virtual personal trainer, this definitely isn't the answer.

I don't reccomend it, unless you have perfect conditions to play this game.

Well worth it

My own experiences using Kinetc have been great. Kinetic offers a lot of game modes to choose from, the games are fun, and the personal trainer mode makes the whole process very easy to follow. I highly recommend this product for anyone who wants to get fit, but doesn't like the monotony of jogging or other exercise.

It took a couple days to the get the lighting and game settings right, but I've had no problems since. To be honest, I don't really understand why other reviewers seem to have a problem with the camera. The camera works just like any other camera... illuminate what you want the camera to see, leave the rest at normal or slightly darker lighting, and you're done. With a normal camera, you illuminate yourself from the front (not the back or the side) and the same principle applies to the eye toy. If your furniture is illuminated, then the camera will pick up your furniture... you get the idea.

So in short, the camera works fine, the game is a lot of fun, and the exercise regimen really works.

fun effective workout

I just got this game and think it is great. I haven't tried all the workout areas yet, but the ones I did made me feel it. Be prepared to spend a bit of time adjusting the camera settings, and if your room is small shove the furniture out of the way to set it up. I like the performance graping features and other ways to evaluate your workout. Great if you want someting more interactive than a regular exercise video, but down want to sign up and pay for classes at a gym.

Finally a workout that can hold your interest!

Having had little success w/ exercise video's, the gym, and everything inbetween, as they never hold my interest, I decided to give Kinetic a try, even though video games hold no interest for me. I 'played' Kinetic for the first time last night, and I was blown away!! All I can say is WOW! What a cool concept!!

I was panting and sweating before my 10 minutes of cardio was up, but was just so distracted the game itself (kicking/punching dropping balls on the screen, and ducking the bouncing ones) that I didn't want to stop...it didn't seem like real exercise, despite my awkward labored movements! It was soo much fun, that I can't wait to get home and 'play' it again tonight.

I did have problems with the camera sensitivity, which at times contributed to inanimate objects behind me inadvertently destroying the 'bad' objects on the screen, thus deducting from my score...very frustrating! The room I played in last night had 1/2 of the wall behind me painted dark brown and the other 1/2 happened to be white in color. I noticed that the EyeToy registered all my moves correctly where the wall was dark, and sometimes did not register my hitting actions where the wall was white (I'm a very pale person). Thus tonight I'm going to try to hang a dark sheet behind me, thus eliminating the inanimate object players & to give a consistent high contrast background.
