Just excellent

This is the best thing to hit PS2. I despise working out, but got the Eyetoy Kinetic as a gift and decided to give it a shot- and I am NOT sorry I did. I love games and being competetive and this was not like a workout routine, it was a game. You don't realize how many muscles you've used until you wake up the next morning.

I had minor issues at first with the Eyetoy itself, getting the lighting right. If you're having space issues, make sure to put on the lens that comes with the game. If you're having lighting issues, follow what it says in the manual- a 60 to 100 watt bulb between you and the camera works perfectly. Of course it can use a little work, but I don't know of any technology that couldn't. For me, it served its purpose and just took a little bit of time to tweak.

You need too much space

I was so excited when I received this game. However, I had to clear out my entire basement and put in a floodlight for it to work with the eye toy. I can't get far enough back from the screen and the annoying cartoon guy keeps telling me every minute or so to step back. If it wasn't for that, it would be a lot of fun.

Optimizing the Eye Toy experience

Regarding other reviews:

1. "can't get back far enough" - This game should come with a EyeToy Full Vision Lens adapter (wide-angle) to help with this. Some folks may not realize this.

2. Sensitivity - most of the Eye Toy games have an option to adjust the sensitivity. Spotlighting works well. Also, avoid dark objects in the view behind you.

Amazing workout

I didn't know quite to expect when I bought this game. I just knew I'd probably be more motivated to use it since it's interactive vs the workout dvds I already owned, some still in their plastic.

It was fairly easy to set up the game. When you start a profile you get to input weight and height for calorie counting but by some of the choices you make the game can figure out what fitness level you are at. (If you disagree the game lets you change the settings.) You also get to pick between a male and female instructor. Your profile can be changed at any time.

The game has two modes, one where you select what you want to play. There are four different types of workouts and multiple games under each section. This gives you lots of choices. You can also choose to play with someone else.

The second mode is the 12 week workout mode. You work with your trainer three days a week. You start by stretching (can be skipped) and move on to whatever is set for that day. After the workout you can pick extra target exercises to do if you don't feel you've worked out enough. Last is the cool down stretching. All throughout the workout the trainer guides and encourages you to do your best. At the end you can see how well you did and your scores are tracked to chart your progress. As you get better the difficulty of the workout increases. I did a standard workout and it took less than an hour to do it. I was having enough fun I didn't pay attention to the time. It might have only been half an hour.

This is definately a game I will keep and continue to use.

Great concept

I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical at first when I purchased the Eye Toy: Kinetic for the PS2. I thought it was just going to be a so-so game that makes all of these promises about having fun while working out. I was so wrong. I have gotten fully into this and I have to admit, I really like this game. (Not a game per se, but more of a workout DVD /game.) I have already weighed myself this week from working out with it, and have started to lose a few pounds.

The only problem that I have is the Eye Toy camera itself. It requires an even amount of lighting in order for you to perform the exercises properly. Not to mention that you have to have a good amount of space in your house or apartment in order to get a good full range of motion.

Other than that, this is actually a great concept. This, along with the "Yourself: Fitness" game, (Also for PS2) are good buys to purchase.

Almost there

The game provides a very good workout, but it's not perfect. You need a lot of space and a very, very well lit room. It took several tries changing the camera options and moving the lighting, even purchasing a better lamp, before the program would work well. Even still, often it doesn't "see" me hit the target and my score suffers. Not a big deal since I still get a very good workout. However, a good score moves you on to the next level, so I get stuck in low levels playing the same game over and over.

That said, I still recommend the product. The purpose is to have fun and get a good workout, and it does provide that.

hhm interesting

For me I don't have a huge problem with lighting. If it is bright outside some of the light will come in and mess it up a little. Of the four or 5 already made workouts do not use the all combvat one use the one with variety. I am going to start the 12 week workout today and see what happens.

SO far I find the game fun to exercsie with and do not have any problems with lighting

Not much of a game, it's more of a workout DVD

I was disappointed that this game only has about 22 "games" and many of them aren't games at all, but are just exercise routines you follow (ab workout, arm workout, yoga, tai chi, etc., which require very limited or no interaction with the camera anyway.) A simple workout DVD would suffice and woudl be cheaper.

I found only a few of the games to be fun. You can choose what music you would like to listen to, but the selection is small and gets repetitive after a short while. If Kinetic had more games to actually play, more music, and more interaction, I would have given it a higher rating. I think they should have looked at this game more before they released it. At times getting the camera to work and getting the lighting right are difficult. You may have to move all of your furniture out of the way. On the plus side, a few of the games really do give you a workout and I would agree that this game can help you lose weight.

Could be a fun game - who knows!

The reason I say "COULD be" is because I haven't even gotten to get it working well enough to TRY it! I bought this game a few weeks ago and I have not been able to get it working properly. Lighting is apparently an issue, the camera barely acknowledges my movements at all. I have tried blaring three spotlights on myself and it is STILL too dark for the stupid camera.

Another problem is space. My livingroom is a decent size and even when I get as far away from the camera as possible my feet are still really cut off - even when my head is all the way at the top.

Also, I don't know why exactly, but every time I try to select things by waving my hand over it (for 10 minutes because it BARELY acknowledges any movement) it suddenly pauses itself and cannot be unpaused. I have yet to get anywhere with this game and I Have been rather persistent.

Good concept, horrible product. SAVE YOUR MONEY, I wish I would have! Guess I'll just stick to the regular old workout dvds.

A frustrating experience

The idea behind this game is great, the problem is the eyetoy camera is simply not ready for the concept. Even if you have ideal lighting and space in the room w/ your PS2, there will be many times that your score is affected by the camera not registering hits. Some game modes work fairly well but some, like the aerobics section, fail miserably. I can't tell you how irritating it is when you're punching an orb ten times and it won't register a hit and the lighting in the room is perfect and there's no furniture in the background. Hopefully they'll come out w/ a better eyetoy camera if they make future versions of this game. It's simply too frustrating to stick w/ any kind of exercise program on here and I lost interest after a week.
