Exactly like Zuma - which is good!

I'm really surprised they didn't just name this game Zuma. It is EXACTLY like the free magnetic marble game on MSN Games - also available on the XBox 360 download list.

In essence you have a long, curly track that ends in a black hole. The colored marbles are pushed slowly, inexorably, along the path. You sit at the center, firing marbles at this chain. If your marble color completes a set of 3-of-a-kind, those marbles vanish. If the marbles on either side of the resulting gap match in color, they "attract" to each other and slide the chain backwards. Your aim is to clear out all the marbles before they reach the black hole.

There are a variety of games here. The basic game just has you trying to eliminate marbles and make chains. Another mode livens it up a bit with extra targets that get you bonusses. A puzzle area gives you a preset situation - X combination of marbles on the board, Y marbles in your shooter area. You have to figure out exactly where to shoot to clear the board in only a few shots.

I really love Zuma so I enjoyed this game greatly. There was no learning curve at all for me, it was just a matter of pick it up and play for hours on end. If you enjoy puzzle games, then this will probably be right up your alley. If you're not into puzzle games, you still might want to give this a try. With the twisting and turning of the track - plus the ever increasing color options and bonus items, it really does keep you on your toes.

My only real complaint is that they don't let you set up profiles! You unlock new games as you go - but the only way to share the game with another person is to erase your save information before you hand it over. That hardly makes sense. They really should let up to 4 people set up profiles so that each can have their own fun of unlocking items and tracking their scores.

Fantastic Fun!

This game is absolutely addictive! In fact, it is hard to put away! Once you get started, you want to see just how many levels you can conquer! So many levels can satisfy anyone who wants a lot of diversity in one game. If you like puzzles, you will love this!

Loops To Success

Puzzle games are definitely for everybody. While there have been some that have shown strong success recently, like Su Doku and classic crossword puzzles, video game puzzles have never seen to show within their age. That has also been the case with Nintendo DS as well. With the success of puzzle games like Tetris DS and the thrilling Meteos game, many seem to wonder if there is going to be a puzzle game that is different. Well, there actually is one out there right now that is kind of a twist, a loop puzzle that brings new gamers to the Nintendo DS and into full focus as well.

Magnetica for the Nintendo DS is a classic loop puzzle game. The game of course is a very simple game to play. Like games such as Bust A Move, and Meteos, the object of the game is for you to match three or more colored balls and knock them out of the game. However, you have to do it quickly, because if one ball falls into the black hole at the end of the line, the game is definitely over. There are several differnt modes of play, such as the challenge mode where you have to last through 99 levels of play, without failing into play, the driven quest mode, where there are 50 different puzzles to go through and defeat, and there is puzzle mode, where you have to knock all the balls out of play within a limited amount of shots. The control is strictly from the stylus which is very easy to operate and control, as you shoot your balls and make it easier for you to win. The graphics are also bold and vivid, and they also are shown very well on the DS. The one disdadvantage is the music. Although you get a lot of good puzzles, there isn't as much variety from the music in the game.

Despite very few flaws, Magnetica is a great addition to the Nintendo DS lineup. I absolutely recommend this title a whole lot. If you are into puzzle games like Tetris, and Pokemon Trozei for thisn game system, you'll love this game a whole lot.

Nintendo News and Reviews: Magnetica, the new crack!

By: Brandon J. Mendelson

For U-Wire

The penalties for drug possession vary from state to state. But as some of you might already know, the penalty can be quite unpleasant, steep, and very costly. Not to mention embarrassing for you and your family. Fortunately for you and recovering drug addicts around the world, Nintendo is on the streets with a new drug, and this is one even Mom and Dad can enjoy. Im talking about the lethal-substance-free, but highly addictive game, Magnetica. A game where one player or many face off against a continuous onslaught of balls not seen since the U.S. Open.

As part of their Touch Generation brand, these new games allows potential players with limited to no knowledge of video games to pick up games such as Magnetica and get right into the thick of things. You dont need to worry about what the L and R button does, and you dont need to know the complex origin of the characters that can only be explained by purchasing the last several editions of the game. All you need is your trusty stylus, that is if you havent lost it yet, and a few minutes of quality time. And rest assured those few minutes will turn into hours because while Magnetica has no learning curve, the game can be surprisingly difficult and habit forming. You may even suffer from withdrawal when you finish playing.

The graphics and soundtrack of the game are very basic. Fortunately, the DS allows you to turn the volume off and get passed the basic techno tracks if it is not your cup of tea. Dont feel guilty if you turn the sound down, you can rest easier knowing somewhere out there Moby is playing this game and getting ready to sample it for his next album. And dont worry about the graphics either, while they look like theyre straight out of a Super Nintendo game, youll be focusing so much on the next few marbles it wont matter. Nintendos games have always been about game play over graphics, and bless that little Italian plumbers heart, the world is a better place because of it. After a few hours of Magnetica you wont care about what it looks like. You may even go about building your own wooden version to use to play with your grandparents. Theyre going to like this game too.

If youre left handed, you may experience some issues using the stylus since it is the only way to play the game. Sometimes your hand may take up an important part of the screen that you should be paying attention too. And unfortunately, you have to pay attention to everything if you want to beat this game. Magnetica is the type of game you crave to play at all hours of the day. If you get bored with one mode, there are several other single player modes of play, and if you have other DS players in the area, you can square off against them. It gets a four out of five in my book, and comes highly recommended for those of you looking for a social life substitute. If you find yourself with some downtime, pop out the DS and get hooked on Magnetica. This way the next time someone approaches you to buy some drugs you can say, No thanks man. I already have one.

Frustrating yet fun!

This is the first game I bought when I bought my Nintendo DS. I bought it without looking at any reviews simply because it looked like a game I used to play in high school called "Zuma". Thankfully, it is very much like that game.

There are different ways to play Magnetica. I prefer to play the "quest" mode. Basically, in this game you have an area where different marbles come out of. Then there are "lines" of marbles with varying colors that come out. Sometimes there are two or more of the same colored marble next to each other. Other times there are different colored marbles next to each other. You must use the stylus to use the different marbles that pop up to get 3 or more of the same colors together. The goal is to get rid of the marbles before the marbles get to the end of the "line". It gets harder when there are 2, 3, and 4 lines of marbles coming out at the same time. And I have to say that I find myself getting frustrated when it comes to the harder levels.

This is a great puzzle game that my sister and I like to play. It's nice to see a more adult-themed game for the DS. I can see why this would be a difficult game for a child to play because it does get fast and frustrating. This is definitely a must-have DS game!

Fast thinking, but don't look away from the screen!

This is a very fast game of flicking marbles everywhere, but don't let your eyes leave the screen or you are out of luck!!!You have to pay close attention to this one!! It is satisfying to win a quest. That is where all your marbles are gone from the spiral board. It is still a fun game to get.

Way to Addictive

Even though all modes of the game can be completed in fairly short order, it is highly addictive nonetheless.

Really enjoy playing it. Fast paced is fun but it's nice to slow things down and do the puzzles. Glad I bought it.
