never before have i've been blown away by a countinous rpg game since .hack. i love the show and i love the games i can't wait untill the third one comes out. o.k. now lets talk about mutation. it is exatly like the first game. I loved the first game. the data drain is a cool skill that you get. The only down side is that it is short but it is because the company once to strech yhe game sothey make more mone off the game. The way the weapons change is a cool feature. the new voices are kind of stupid but the bases of the game is played by kids in there young teens. So i gave this game a perfect score. 5-5:)

I you're the type that likes RPG's, or even the type that just began RPG's, THIS IS A MUST HAVE.It is a daring move made by Bandai, which was an excellent move. The gameplay is amazing, the graphics are incredibly realistic, the fighting system is one of the best I have ever seen, and the wide range of NPC's as well as PC's that you can contact is perhaps the most astounding!...

.hack(thats dot hack) is perfect implementation of multimedia to tell a story. Starting with the .hack/sign anime, going through 4 games and ending in a manga, .hack is perfect for any gamer who enjoys anime as well. The story flows through all forms of media(you learn keywords for in game play from the anime) and the story is like some of the best anime out of japan. A must buy if you enjoy both anime and rpgs, but make sure you get the first game as well, or you won't get the whole story.

second verse same as the first

If you've played Infection you've play this one. If you liked Infection, you'll probably like this one. Though you'll have to decide for yourself if it's worth another $...for a game you already have and a mediocre anime.

There is really nothing new about this game...new characters who do the same things, new weapons, a measley one new server.

The game play is fun enough, if repetitive, and it can be addicting. The story is still interesting. We get to see some of the characters from hack//SIGN. The anime included gets a little more interesting. But they kept in a lot of the bad things (like only being able to carry 40 items at once, and with the way you get abilities you'll probably be full almost all the time).

Personally I don't see why this was a separate game, the 1st two installments would have easily been put into one long (and much better) game. As it is I would advise you to rent the games, or at least wait until there are more used copies avaliable so you can get it cheap.

I'm a huge fan of .hack but..

The amazing storyline continues, but with a few grave disappointments.
-Incredibly short. There is only one new server (city)
- the dungeons, and fields also haven't changed
- the gameplay is also idenical
The storyline is still very intriguing, especially the DVD..
crossovers from the tv show also exist..but due to the fact that it is only on once a week, and at midnight I didn't understand any of it.
I gave it three stars because despite the above I really enjoyed it.
Definately a rent before you buy..but then you might be able to complete it.

This game stinks.

Yeah, you heard me right. Before you go ballistic on me, though, let me say WHY this game has infuriated me.

Essentially, this game is the exact same as Infection. You still run around computer generated dungeons, trying to forward the story (which does get a bit more interesting, but not NEARLY enough to save this game). You still data drain and gate hack and fight big bosses with your ever-growing party (all of the new characters, incidentally, have the most annoying voices and inane dialogue imaginable) until you duke it out with a super boss at the end, and save your data to load into the next game.

Of course, this isn't enough to warrant 1 star; indeed I played the first game and liked it, despite being too easy and a bit short (only 20-25 hours to beat the last boss). No, where this game fails is the following: You are actually PENALIZED for purchasing and playing the first game! By playing Infection, you essentially remove half of the levels in Mutation! That's right; BANDAI, in its infinite wisdom, decided that they would put amny of the levels from Infection into Mutation, I guess so that they could bring in some new saps. Of course, that means that they've given the shaft to fans of the game, figuring that we're so stupidly addicted to their product that we will purchase the sequels, no matter WHAT they do. So, there are no benefits to playing the first game, except that you can keep you old emails and character name (whoopee). I finished Mutation in 9 hours. NINE!!!!

I've already been burned, but I hope I can give YOU an option. If you want to play 9 hours for fifty bucks, buy the game. Otherwise, I suggest you wait for Xenosaga, episode 2; those folks know how to TREAT fans!

Best virtual online game and one of the greatest rpg's

Ok. So you are planning to buy . hack mutation. well... dont plan buy it now. The storyline is pretty much the same as the 1st one (trying to save Orca of the Azure Sea). If you havent bought .hack// infection and dont know about .hack, you should really start off with this game. This game can get rough in the beggining, but further along the road you will understand it better and it will become vcery challenging.

Overview:

Leo and his cyber buddies are out to try to bust you again and are also trying to delete your character!!!!!!! Luckily Helba comes to the rescue and completely outsmarts Leo and convinces him to leave him alone.

You will meet new characters like: Nuke Usagimaru (long arm), Sanjuro (heavy blade), Wiseman (wavemaster) And Natsume (twin blade). Afetr meeting up with some of these characters you will fight a MAJOR boss cubia.(as seen at the end of infection). This the hardest boss so dont think your going to beat him in just one fight, (I suggest you level up to 39 or 45).

The really, really, really cool part starts when you arive at net slum. I wont tell you what happens because it will ruin the surprise for most of you buyers out there :). All I can tell you is that Net Slum is where Deleted, Unused or just characters that are messed up live in. Very freaky place but lots of battles will happen here so be prepared.

Also be PREPARTED TO BUY MUTATION!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best Series Game Ever

I've never played a game like it, you have a good base line of characters and an awsome fighting system. Man I can't believe such a game this good exists! I dont want to spoil any "surprises" in this game, so I need to say that this is a must have game. If you have a birthday coming up after May, definetely include this on your birthday list!!!

great game, too much static

This is a great game even though it could have been slightly better. For starters the fields look as if they were rushed, The sound crackles when engaged in heavy combat. Now for the pros. The enemys can be like 20x bigger than you and you can be fighting up to 8 enemies at once and defeat them all at once, so it gives you a sense of collosal power. Some of the combat gets so heavy with tornado attacks that it is almost impossible to see what you are attacking. The dark tones and dim lighting in the game gives you a sense of mystery and danger. No matter how strong you get enemies from this versions feilds and dungeons can't be beaten with just on hit. For those you have played the first one the magic goes up to level 3.

Fun, but *way* too short.

.hack/Infection was already kind of short for an RPG, I finished in 30 hours compared to the usual 50-70 for a Final Fantasy type game.

But I finished .hack/Mutation in less than 15 hours!?! Sigh. What there is of the game is fun but, frankly, I don't know if I'm going to buy the next two installments...
