I've never played a game like it, you have a good base line of characters and an awsome fighting system. Man I can't believe such a game this good exists! I dont want to spoil any "surprises" in this game, so I need to say that this is a must have game. If you have a birthday coming up after May, definetely include this on your birthday list!!!

COOL GAME!

It is the best that I've played! The storyline is good, the graphics are good and the game itself is good. Plus, all my friends love it!

This is the best game in my point of view but,I would prefer for the makers of the game to make a game based on the show .hack//sign, not like the .hack:infection.

BEST RPG EVER!...

I you're the type that likes RPG's, or even the type that just began RPG's, THIS IS A MUST HAVE.It is a daring move made by Bandai, which was an excellent move. The gameplay is amazing, the graphics are incredibly realistic, the fighting system is one of the best I have ever seen, and the wide range of NPC's as well as PC's that you can contact is perhaps the most astounding!...

This game stinks.

Yeah, you heard me right. Before you go ballistic on me, though, let me say WHY this game has infuriated me.

Essentially, this game is the exact same as Infection. You still run around computer generated dungeons, trying to forward the story (which does get a bit more interesting, but not NEARLY enough to save this game). You still data drain and gate hack and fight big bosses with your ever-growing party (all of the new characters, incidentally, have the most annoying voices and inane dialogue imaginable) until you duke it out with a super boss at the end, and save your data to load into the next game.

Of course, this isn't enough to warrant 1 star; indeed I played the first game and liked it, despite being too easy and a bit short (only 20-25 hours to beat the last boss). No, where this game fails is the following: You are actually PENALIZED for purchasing and playing the first game! By playing Infection, you essentially remove half of the levels in Mutation! That's right; BANDAI, in its infinite wisdom, decided that they would put amny of the levels from Infection into Mutation, I guess so that they could bring in some new saps. Of course, that means that they've given the shaft to fans of the game, figuring that we're so stupidly addicted to their product that we will purchase the sequels, no matter WHAT they do. So, there are no benefits to playing the first game, except that you can keep you old emails and character name (whoopee). I finished Mutation in 9 hours. NINE!!!!

I've already been burned, but I hope I can give YOU an option. If you want to play 9 hours for fifty bucks, buy the game. Otherwise, I suggest you wait for Xenosaga, episode 2; those folks know how to TREAT fans!

Good Game

Ok, I got the game, my first thoughts were: This game is Great, Battle system is real time with good graphics, Lots of PC's and NPC's to interact with, good graphics, players that are not in your party level up themselves to level really close to yours... Later the fun factoris reduced by following factors, game isn't really long, there arent many quests, battle system gets pretty annoying later in the game, Voices of charecters get REALLY anoying later in the game, players arent moving their mouths during cut scenes...
Overall this game is 9, from scale 1 to 10 (i'm not saying it is bad,it is just worth your money).

The continuation of the .hack video game series for PS2

.hack//mutation is another wonderous game for Play Station Two. The series starts out with .hack//infection, and continues on for another two games, which have not been released in America yet. As I beleive they have only been released in Japan, the birthplace of .hack and anime.

The game starts out right after the storyline ends with .hack//infection. The .hack story is about a mysterious item called the Key of the Twilight which co-exists in "The World" an online game RPG, or more commenly referred to as MMORPG. The game itself in real life is a simulated MMORPG. Let me take this time to explain a little but about the real world in 2007+ [when this game takes place]. A deadly computer virius called "Pluto's Kiss" ravaged the online world, resulting in sudden ultra-violet flares from computer screens. This resulted in millions of cases of blindness, and 7 deaths. All internet usage is unspeakable. In 2007, CC Corporation makes a game called "Fragment". By 2009 over 10,000,000 copies are sold, and the game is re-titled "The World" Through the shows, games, and Manga a select group of players slowly uncoveres the mystery of the key of the twilight, and Aura.

Now for the game, it has an excellent storyline, with excellent music, and excellent graphics. The main characters Kite, and Blackrose have the same features as the previous game, which is good in my opinion.

I would write more but the review space dosnt let me, and I would be spoiling it. The great thing about the series is, if you beat .hack//infection you can transfer the data to .hack//mutation and continue where you left off.

Thats all, regards, Oriellien Calvert.

never before have i've been blown away by a countinous rpg game since .hack. i love the show and i love the games i can't wait untill the third one comes out. o.k. now lets talk about mutation. it is exatly like the first game. I loved the first game. the data drain is a cool skill that you get. The only down side is that it is short but it is because the company once to strech yhe game sothey make more mone off the game. The way the weapons change is a cool feature. the new voices are kind of stupid but the bases of the game is played by kids in there young teens. So i gave this game a perfect score. 5-5:)

second verse same as the first

If you've played Infection you've play this one. If you liked Infection, you'll probably like this one. Though you'll have to decide for yourself if it's worth another $...for a game you already have and a mediocre anime.

There is really nothing new about this game...new characters who do the same things, new weapons, a measley one new server.

The game play is fun enough, if repetitive, and it can be addicting. The story is still interesting. We get to see some of the characters from hack//SIGN. The anime included gets a little more interesting. But they kept in a lot of the bad things (like only being able to carry 40 items at once, and with the way you get abilities you'll probably be full almost all the time).

Personally I don't see why this was a separate game, the 1st two installments would have easily been put into one long (and much better) game. As it is I would advise you to rent the games, or at least wait until there are more used copies avaliable so you can get it cheap.

Great and Challenging Game, but Short

When I got this game, I expected to play for a long time like the first one. I did like the fact of bringing my strong characters from the first one. I sure needed them. I'll admit that the three main bosses in that game were very difficult. It ended fast, but with a nice finish. I won't say it, but it looks like things are getting crazy in this game. So I recommend it very much. Just don't expect to play it long especially if you have the first one and beaten it. I finished it in two days! I was around level 47-48 when I beat the game. So that can be a good goal for people who have trouble in the game. So overall, great addition to the .Hack series!
