Riding Off Into The Virtual Sunset

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 20 / 25

For dedicated dot hackers, the easiest way to describe the fourth and last chapter of this game is 'more or the same.' Once more Kite adventures into the many fields and dungeons of 'The World' seeking loot, experience, and trying to safe the world (the real world) from a virus gone out of control. This time, though, all the loose threads are drawn together, answers are provided, and the glow of a new day restores the shine to the gaming world.

If you are new to the game, you are likely to find Quarantine a bit difficult to play and confusing to understand. While it can be done, I think a very large part of the series' charm is the slow, game-by-game, building of character and story. With the earlier games now available at discounted prices the best strategy is to start at the beginning and work forward. Do not, however, try to play the games one right after another. Spread out, their similarity doesn't interfere with enjoyment. Taken all at once, it is quite possible to overdose on grunties.

If you have been following the series than expect no great surprises. Well, there are one or two, but for the most part everything is a natural progression from the previous games. While the plot undertakes some interesting twists, gameplay is pretty much a matter of bigger and badder. If you have been religiously leveling up in prior episodes then Quarantine will feel a bit too easy. If you have been getting through by the skin of your teeth then there will be some tough fights ahead.

I felt that Quarantine was a little too short, and not as spectacular as I expected. There is provision for playing after the game is complete, including an item challenge, and some familiar characters will suddenly become available. Unfortunately quarantine features a smaller set of monsters. Most often data bug variations of ones you have already seen. There is a little voice in my head that keeps telling me that Bandai would have been better off packaging this game in three episodes rather than four.

Of course, that means they would have had to find another way to deliver the Liminality OVAs. This last episode is excellent, providing a lot of information on the nature of the.hack world as well as an exciting conclusion. We see both the outside and the inside of The World in one tidy package. In retrospect, the game is the weakest link in the entire marketing package (I'm not completely sure about the manga either), simply because Bandai chose to leave it unchanged for four episodes. However, many of the concepts behind the .hack package are quite novel, even if a bit overplayed. This, it is an entertaining (if somewhat expense) way to spend a lot of hours with your Playstation 2.

GREAT GAME (Played the Japanese version)

I played the japanese version at a friends house for couple of days finally beating it. It's awesome game with "slightly" better graphics. The japanese version isnt that different form the english version so I can state they are about the same. The game is probably the longest in the 4 game collection lasting me about 40 hours. Well I hope my input helped...

If you have played the first three /.hack games...you will prolly love this one. The fact is://.hack rules. 1st off, you get to interact with NPCs and trade with them. In games like Final Fantasy, you either buy the worthless pieces of junk, or you go around for hours stealing items from monsters which is a huge time consumer. Well i guess this too considering the numbers of monsters to kill going through the dungeons. I simply got hooked. The games very easy to play plus it has some challenge in it. Its better then final fantasy because you don't have to use the same gay boring menus. I'd rather be able to move the character and do what i want. :-) The story is different but you need to pay attention in games to whats going on. There are LOTS of skills to get which makes it very fun instead of fire, ice, thunder. Hmm? Kinda gets old. LOTS of weapons with cool details is another big gain. i'd rate this serious a 5 anyday.

Just a little getting used to

A lot of people really miss the point of this game so I'm going to lay it out for you.

It's a simulation of a mass-multiplayer online RPG. You meet several players along the way and the game tries to make sure you interact with them as often as possible. However the main characters in the story turn out to be Balmung, Blackrose, Wiseman, and of course Kite, and as such when you're in situations where the story line is progressing they are the characters that you'll probably want to (or have to in some cases) select for your party. A lot of the dry spots in the story is to progress your relationships with other characters.

For experienced gamers the .hack//saga should provide little difficulty. The characters are brilliantly designed, my only complaint is that you don't really get a lot of substance in each individual game. It's fun to progress the story, but before you know it the game is over, which is why I eagerly awaited this installment in the saga. I was pleased to see the story come together the way that it did, and the DVD's that coincide with the game are well done. It's not nearly as hack and slash as some would make it out to be, there is a bit of strategy in the game, several opposing elements, several enemies with both physical and magical tolerance that require some sort of strategy to defeating them. Another lacking quality in the game is the variety of enemies is low, you end up fighting the same enemies over and over again in each level, the lack of variety at each weapon shop is also frustrating, however the trading system and the variety of weapons you find on the field along with the leveling them up with the help of special dieties known as "grandpa" and "monsieur" make up for that.

The story is frighteningly progressive and cutting edge. As I stated earlier the character models are fantastic, and quite honestly some of the best I've seen since Final Fantasy VII. Now don't get angry....this series is by no means of Final Fantasy VII caliber, however its very much worth the play as you can usually find most titles for around twenty dollars. It's a fun and addictive story line. I highly recommend it.

dot hack is a great expansive game that is full of intrigue and excellent design. I admit that it is not the best game in the world but you have to look past your critical debations and play the game. I would reccomend buying the other 3 games first before this one to get the entire feel of the story. It is set up like an online game and feels like one too. Yes there is room for improvement and yes it can be a frustrating or hard game at times. It is because of this difficulty that we push ourselves forward toi overcome the challenge and when we do it feels absoulutley great. a game that is too easy is no fun. This is a great end to a wonderful series plus has dot hack gift as well as the final chapter in the liminality story which are awesome bonuses to get with this game. You don't have to immerse yourself in the dot hack world if you want to enjoy the game, but by playing the game you may want to just go ahead and take the full experience after viewing this wonderful world of dot hack.

This game continous the story of the other 3 games, based on a TV show .Hack//Sign. Asume game only if you like Anime watched the TV show and played the other games(must play the other games). It's an RPG that simulated an On-line RPG. Your basic goal is to save the "The World" from the Wave.IT also comes with a DVD a sort of Mini TV Show. The best video game that was ever based on a TV show.Other video games based on TV shows and Movies suck but when you play this game you feel like your in the TV show. You play a charecter named Kite, who on his first day of playing had his friend Orca Date Drained(Special Attack). You A invisible Braclet(lets you Data Drain) From Aura she also gets Data Drained. Basicly you go arounf in Dungion defeating Bosses who are called Data Bugs, Geting item in Gott Staes of treasure chest, find segments of Aura, going to secret rooms where Harald a person who created to game is, and recruiting people to your party. The People you recruit are mostly in the 1&2 games. You can also transfer Data from the other games into your next game in the series. Their are also grunties you can race the in Root Towns and ride the in Fields(The uper levels of Dungens). The game is based on the EPITH OF TWILIGHT can't tell you what that is because IT WOULD RUIN THE EXPERINCE OF LEARNING IT YOU SELF.Another feture of the bracklet is gate hacking you have to use virus cores you get from enamies this sounds easy but it is incredibly hard because to Data Drain you have to weeken enamies.A down side of Data Drain is that you weeken the enamy so when you kill it you get almost no exp. also you get infected with the virus if you do thay to much you will die. To keep trach of your data you get the RYU BOOK their are ten volumes with diferent data. to get the books you have to Data Drian.I hope this review will help you

I've loved this game ever since the first installment (Infection) and I've been collecting the TV Show and Comic as well. This game has a long re-playability, indepth story, a wonderful amount of options and so forth. I can hardly wait for this one to come out.

For those who complain about the fact that the game doesn't change much between the four volumn are probably the same that complained that "Fellowship of the Rings" was a clifthanger--it's a standard 4-part series! A *story* in the normal tradition like 2001, Tolkien and the rest. That alone means that they got the whole idea of an RPG right! A true RPG is one that is a story that gives you a chance to play along. I recommend this game to anyone.

The exact same as the other games.

This is the exact same game as the other games. There's a few new items, but nothing to celebrate. Sure it's a conclusion, but you just spent 200 bucks on 4 games that are all 12 hours(maximum) long. Way to go!

Nothing new and SHORT!

Nothing new here from the other games. It was very very short and left a rather empty ending. This game didn't even bother to have all your characters request your help in a dungeon which I enjoyed in the other games. You are pretty much stuck with Black rose in this game and I liked other characters much better. One good point about this game is once you have SAVED "The World" you do get to continue to play and get item completion with some side dungeon quests added in. The problem is I kind of lost interest as I was no longer playing to complete a story but just for fun. After 4 games of the same fighting, this doesn't add much interest to me.

An awsome game for people who like very deep games.

If you've played the first 3 (and I recamend that you do because if you don't u won't stand a chance)you'll love this one. An intense game for all you .hack lovers, seen the TV show or not. . No offense. The .Hack games are for people who get like totaly into a game and try to figure out everything. It's just a game that can't be taken lightly at all. If you wanna stand a chance at all you must be really into the game just like I am and u have to have played the other 3 games. In this game u can have adventures in dungeons and form a party, but don't expect to have the same characters all the time, they aren't on all the time. You can have fun just exploring the dungeons for fun, or you can get items to trade. It is a very fun game for all those gamers out there.I hope that you like this game as much as I do. It is one of the best RPG games that there'll ever be.
