Too sum it all up the real title of this game should be The Kri of Mark because my friend mark started to cry due to the ambiguously happy characters in the game. The game is set in a small suburban chinese dojo. The main character "Max" has a dillema. He is forced to save his special friend "Gary" from feeling the wrath of his angry step-father. Must i say anymore. One of my friends did enjoy it "Lance". He is becoming really good at it too. The other day i noticed that he can now play the game one handed.

the mark of kri, more like the mark of shame

it is said that "the mark of kri" is new and innovative, but to me it is a real headache. the game begins well enough. you play as rau, a barbarian that has trained for years with your sword. and what a swordsman he is, among the stuffed dummies. yes rau hasnt seen real combat for he has been training at an inn with his master waiting for a chance to venture out into the real world searching for adventure. that day finally comes when the inn keeper tells you of some banditts that have been killing road travelers. this is rau's chance to prove himself as a true warrior and gain some fame. this is when you get your first chance to put your sword into something other than a stuffed dummy. when rau finally engages an enemy this is where the "fun" is supposed to begin but well...i would have more fun poking myself in the eye then use the combat system of "the mark of kri". you see, when you engage an enemy you have to use the right analog stick to focus your attention. when you do this an icon appears over the enemies head. it indicates what button to press to attack the enemy. additionally you can unleash combo attacks which again seemed like a great idea until you try to use them on your opponent. the enemies from the get go are tough, they block almost all of your attacks and they counter attack often. so pulling off a combo attack is nearly impossible. but the reward is somewhat worth it, for you get to see rau impale, mutilate and smash his enemies. on to the next portion of the game that is probably the best feature of all. the cinamatics are great. as they open one by one the scenes are drawn on parchment with a ink pen giving you something different and in my opinion helps to keep you awake. the game is very short and the final boss fight is just a quick button mash and a ending cinamatic which by the way is very anticlimatic. the graphics are ok and the environments are well done. but that just isnt enough to give this game good enough replay value. i am reluctant to buy the newest installment of the game but it looked like it had been imporved since the last. if you want my opinion i would avoide this game at all costs. i managed to snag it used for only 7.99, but after playing it i would only pay about 3.99 for its lack of entertainment. the mark of kri...deserves the mark of shame.

What's with all the blackness in the game!

I can't see two feet in front of my character,it's too dark I keep running in to walls and cliffs and my brightness on the tv is turned all the way up. I don't know if there using that to make it scarier or what. The bird in this game seems to be a waste of time to mess with, takes to long to get to the tree limbs you want it to fly to. Just another average game, I wish these company's that make these games would come up with some original ideas. Hack n slash = Boring.

What were they thinking?

Cartoony look, terrible control, shocking violence, repetitive gameplay. The cutscenes are hand drawn still pictures. The main character -Rau- is difficult to move about and he gets stuck on everything. Collision detection is terrible. And as for the "innovative" fight controls, it amounts to little more than button mashing. Halfway through the second "mission" -walk along and kill everyone you come across- your sword begins to get stuck in something every time you swing it. Frustrating, dull, and stupid. I quit.

i dislike this game

ok, i played rise of the kasai(sequal) before i played this game so thats why im tired with it. Theres only so much fun u can have with this game. In rise of kasai at first i was like this game is great, this is cool. The characters are cool but I got bored. Why did I get bored? Its a simple clunky hack n' slash game with an ability to stealth around but why? This is supposed to be one of the best underrated games?? pleeeaaaase

This mark of kri game is fun but only like three levels long! This has plenty of blood, gore, and violance for me but it is just too short for me. The good thing is though I only bought it for two bucks at game stop!! So overall this game is fun but too short!

Uhhh....

Though the graphics for this game are amazing, and it's great to see a video game hero with a different look, this game was just too boring to play for more and 2 or 3 levels.

Gore Gore and more Gore!

The graphics and surroundings of "The Mark Of Kri" are exceptional. Its more of a cartoon feel rather than that of a real gory game. Besides the graphics, the controls are unsteardy and somewhat irritating. It takes you ages to move the charachter providing your enimies ample time to harm you as much as possible. The player gets a really weird feeling after the charachter whom you play, penetrates his sword into the enemies body, gives it a 90 Degree rotation and then pulls it out. Eeire! I mean you may not feel it at the time, however you do later on. Trust me on that one!

On the other hand, the sound is really good. If you love gore, a lot and a lot of gore, this game is for you. If your'e squeamish you might end up in a pretty bad situation!

Overall, a good, worth for the money game. And yeah, the extra gore is included!!

Great graphics and gore!

Because I like action adventure games I was intrigued by everything I had heard about Mark of Kri. First things first, the graphic landscapes are awesome. The battle system is pretty good, allowing multiple cool combo attacks. Also you are able to see through the eyes of your spirit guide, a bird companion, and look around corners to plan your attacks carefully. At first it seemed like an average game with cool graphics, but once I got to the second level(20 minutes), the game got much cooler. You get to sneak up on guards and cut off their heads off and/or smash their skulls. It earns it's "M" rating with honors. Lots of blood. Then you get the bow. With this you can kill from a distance, and quietly. You can fight up to 9 enemies at a time with excellent looking sword moves and blocking. Using your bird spirit guide, you can toggle back and forth between his vision and your vision on the ground for what is esentially alternate camera angles. This way, when you sneak up to kill guards, you can view the killing from a new angle. Very cool.
It is a bit linear though. You can't do too much exploring, but I think we've all become a bit spoiled with the flexibility of GTA3. Compared to that it has it's limits, but it's superb art and cool combat system makes it a solid action/adventure.
