You are Icarus and have been sent to the pits of Hades... What now??? You must work your way back from Hades to the Heavens to defeat Madusa! This is an original concept featuring great mythological enemies some nice gameplay, secrets and a big challenge. You are equiped with a bow and several other items you pick up along the way to destroy Harpies, Cenetaurs and other enemies. There are four worlds, each containing two or three levels then a huge labrynth to go through.

Kid Icarus is one of the best Nintendo games ever created. Even though it's horribly old, it's still a challenge and has a gaming strategy that was virtually non-existent in most other NES games.
I highly recommend this game to anyone who has never played it.

Great Game For It's Time

With the release of Super Smash Brothers Brawl, I was curious as to where exactly Pit came from. With how many games I've played, I was amazed that I'd never actually even heard of Kid Icarus. Especially because it was a very successful and popular video game in the NES days, where I began my gaming. It may be late, but I'm glad I went back and played the original Kid Icarus. Also, if anyone is interested, it has been released on the Wii's virtual console and it should only cost you 500 Wii Points to download.

Kid Icarus is about Pit. He's on a quest to save the world from the evil demon Medusa who is plotting to kill all the mortals. Just like every NES game, the story is simple and straight forward. Kid Icarus has a lot of great gameplay elements to it as well. Imagine if Mario and Zelda were combined to make the perfect game and that's pretty much what Kid Icarus is. The levels are side scrolling levels very much like Mario, but you can also go into doors and purchase items like in Zelda.

There are four worlds in Kid Icarus. You'll go through the basic levels in Mario fashion. Starting with level 1-1. You'll then have to explore a labyrinth to get to the world's final boss. Each labyrinth is a maze of sorts and at the end you'll fight a boss.

The levels themselves are fairly well designed, most of them looking as though they should've been in Metroid to begin with. You'll have enemies coming at you left and right ready to take you on and all you'll be able to do is blast them with arrows. There are shops scattered throughout the levels as well where you'll be able to purchase upgrades and other items for Pit.

Kid Icarus may be short but it is most certainly not easy. Games on the original Nintendo, particularly in the 80's had a reputation for being incredibly hard. Games like Contra, Metroid and the original Mega Man were games you used to test just how good you were. Kid Icarus is much like those games. It's an incredibly hard game for a number of reasons. The first being that the levels are very long. Especially for an NES game. It's to no consolation that there aren't really any checkpoints either. Another aspect that makes the game very difficult is that you can't go back, and in the first three levels especially, all you're doing is going up. If the screen scrolls too far up, you can't fall and hope to land on a platform you already passed. You'll have to accept your fate and die. This isn't all. While there are shops, most of them have items that in the beginning you can't afford, and you'll also only be able to visit a room once. These areas, however, are few and far between.

The biggest challenge with Kid Icarus, however, is actually that the levels are populated with a ton of enemies. You'll be able to deal with not being able to backtrack, but many of the enemies themselves appear in droves and are often hard to get by. Just the same, however, you're encouraged to kill them to make Pit stronger.

There's no save system present either. However, there is a password system, and Nintendo obviously knew they made a pretty hard game, as you can also access numerous cheats through the password system. But you'll have to keep a pen and paper handy, you'll fall prey to your enemies several times.

It's a rewarding game to be sure, it's just another classic game on the NES that's unforgiving in its challenge. Those who began playing video games after the NES era will be in for a rude awakening.

In terms of graphics, Kid Icarus looks marvelous for the time it was released. There are a few graphics that come from Metroid and you'll even spot a few familiar monsters. On the whole, though, it's very colorful. The game also has some catchy tunes. Many of which will probably get stuck in your head. They're simple melodies.

Kid Icarus is a great game, but also a very difficult one. If you're not frustrated with games too easily, then Kid Icarus is great. It'll take a long time to get through some of the games levels, but at least it's a very enjoyable game.

All skill here!

Kid Icarus is very cool. You are Icarus and you have been sent to the depths of Hades to defeat Medusa. Along the way you pick up some powers to aid you in your quest to bring back peace to the heavens and to destroy Medusa.

First and foremost, it's all skill here. There are no cheats, no codes and NO LIFE BAR. You get hit once, and you're dead. Plain and simple. Like a lot of the early NES games, you had to be real good to make any progress in this because otherwise you were wasting your time. So really, when you're playing this one, you need to be on your best because you won't make it otherwise.

Again, very cool classic NES game. It will challenge you throughout the entire adventure. Not only do I recommend this one, but also Mega Man 2, Castlevania and of course, any other the Marios. Enjoy this one!

one of THE best.

quite possibly THE best game for the old 8-bit "antique" {can i say that}. geez i'm getting old. i remember craving an intelivision then atari then coleco {first to represnt the classic donkey kong i think} and then the C64 {man, lemmings was such an awsomly addictive game}. after all that came the all mighty 8-bit wonderland called "nintendo". "kid icarus" along with "metroid" where the two first games my parents graced me with WAY back in the day. O.K. i was going somewhere with this but i've lost my train of thought. ...oh, this game is old but it's still AWESOME.

Uhhhhhhhh....... HARD!!!! this game is insanely hard but I reccomend it to everyone that likes a challenge. I can barely get to the 3rd level but its pretty fun there are so many secret areas it always keeps the game new and fresh it never becomes old and repetitive it is probably one of the most hardcore games on the NES so you have to get this game if you dont already have it

fun but hard!!!

The title speaks for itself! Hard, but yet fun! The music score was soothing and enjoyable to go with the game. Puzzles are cool! Graphics were well advanced for 1986! Like Metriod, it does'nt fool around for one minute. You can't mess fool around and explore like you can in Mario or Zelda. You gotta know what you're doing or else "you're finished." I am still trying to get past the second level so I really suck. The passwords are just as hard as playing the game itself (this was when passwords were a new thing in video games) so make sure you jot them down correctly or get yourself an emulator. Even game genie won't get you that far (I know its cheating, but I don't care as long as I get the satisfaction of completing the game while I get a lasting enjoyment of shooting enemies with my advanced arrows).

This game was so good that they had to mess up Kid Icarus' reputation by creating a "lame" version of him on the Captain N series in the early 1990's along with "lame" versions of Simon Belmount and Mega Man. I gotta go and finish the second level so I strongly recomend this game for the NES or spend some Wi points on it if you don't have the NES! Its hard, but its worth your money. Same thing with the original Metriod!!
