an extremely original racing game

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 29 / 30

I first played this game not expecting much, from a weird little pokemon racing game that looks like you're running across old-school RPG world maps. But I was pleasantly surprised. This game doesn't offer all that much in graphics or game play, and it is a bit repetitive, but what it does offer is pretty darn good, strategic and innovative.

Right from the beginning just the way you move is innovative. Everything you do in this game is done differently from any other game out there. And I think that's a good thing, cause it's fun.

Stick with it through the first few stages. Then you will gain the ability to fly with a hot-air balloon, you'll have to learn to plan ahead a little bit for your next move, and pretty soon you'll forget about the mediocre graphics -- every move you make will have a bit of strategy to it. You can beat the other Pokemons on your first try in the easy level in most of the stages, but a real strategy fan or Pokemon fan will want to learn every little trick you need to complete each stage faster.

Don't get me wrong - Pokemon Dash is not the best game I have played for the DS. If you're only getting one get Mario 64 or Kirby Canvas Curse or WarioWare. But if you're willing to give it a little bit of time you may be pleasantly surprised by this game.

Gotta Race 'Em All!

Not alot of people still accept Pokemon as a trilling game anymore, but this one changes it all. All you have to do is race against other Pokemon using your current Pokemon and its special abilities. If you have your FireRed, LeafGreen, Emerald, Ruby, or Sappire also attached to your DS while playing Pokemon Dash, you can play on new maps based on the Pokemon you've already caught. You might think this is some sort of expansion, but once you get the hang of it (which is pretty easy, just rub your character forward) you'll be playing it everywhere you go! You can't catch other Pokemon or trade (or do anyhting with another DS) with Pokemon Dash.

I reccommend this game for everybody, but the older group might generalize Pokemon and I dont think would want to get it.

I myself cant get enough of this game. If you like adventure games, I also reccommend Animal Crossing DS because of its exciting online feature.

Okay, I'm not..

I'm not rating this low because it's Pokemon.. I enjoy pokemon game even though I am 14. This game is pretty bad just because of the fact its so unbelievably repetative. It can get boring while you are just in for first race.. Now i'm not going to be like the other reviewers and buy a PSP and save money, ebcause realistically, you wouldn't be saving you're money buying a PSP. they are 250 bucks. I would simply reccomend you waiting for the DS to come out with better games. I know nintendo can do better, and I hope they will.. i spent 200 birthday bucks on you.. You will be better off waiting though for some new DS games than rushing out for a PSP, because they have no really good games at all on the line. Saps are just buying that thing because of the graphics.. dont be fooled.. nintendo has some tricks up their sleeves

its just that this game wasn't one of them.. hopefully..

A really fun and different pokemon game

I'm 8 years old and been playing pokemon games for about a year now. If you've played a lot of other pokemon games, you'll like this game.

I just started this game, but the best part of this it is when you go up in the hot air ballon. You simply move by touching the pokemon with your stylus repeatedly.

AWESOME!!! ^__^

I just don't get why this game is getting such a low rating. It's challenging and fun- but only if you unlock Hard and Extreme modes. Also, speicial is really cool. Just put in a Pokemon RPG game pak (lets say Ruby) and your party pokemon are uploaded and you can race on them. The POKEMON. Whoo!

They even have an in-depth training mode for beginning players. Like me, beacause this is my first game for the DS. I absolutely love it. Keep em' comin' Nintendo!

For the most die-hard of Pokemon fans only

Really, it's sad that for how long the DS has been out, not even a Pokemon game can be good. I'm not a huge Pokemon fan, but I still enjoy the games a lot. This isn't much of a Pokemon game at all. It has "Pokemon" in the title, but this is just a poor excuse for a racing game. It's repetative, slow, and doesn't show us what the DS can do.

The gameplay is already the first strike against the game. You control Pikachu through all the races, and the only aspect of the gameplay is... well... moving the stylus left and right to direct Pikachu where to go. That's it!

There are challenges, and there is a map. The entire goal is to pass through all the various checkpoints and win the race. Along the way there's water, lava, chasms and other things that get in your way. Sometimes, you may need a balloon to help you over some of the obstacles.

But the problem with the game right off the bat is simple. The races, short as they may be, are annoying. Especially when you get in a balloon. The map is nice, but you have to rely on arrows as you race to point you in the direction to the next checkpoint. It's nice to be able to take the balloons, but the arrows don't point you in any direction once you get a balloon. You could possibly end up floating in the wrong direction because the map is so large you don't know where to go!

The extras are even more underlying. By loading in one of the GBA pokemon games, you can create tracks shaped like the Pokemon themselves. This has little innovation actually, and the regular tracks are already boring enough.

The graphics aren't up to par with DS standards either. Vibrant and colorful, but at the same time fuzzy and lacking detail. The audio is no different. I'm tired of hearing Pikachu's cute little squeals and whatnot. His voice got annoying (as if Pokemon Yellow wasn't bad enough with his voice!), and the rest of the audio wasn't great either. I turned the volume down in the end.

Really now, Pokemon games on the handheld systems usually aren't bad. Pokemon Red and Blue was incredible, Gold and Silver was even better. Pokemon Puzzle League Challenge wasn't such a bad game either. But this? This is obviously something rushed out so that the DS would have a Pokemon title out within its first couple of months.

Skip this game. Unless you're one hell of a die-hard Pokemon fan, you won't find enjoyment in this one.

ok

This game is so fun and you easily become attached to the game. I got it and I can't stop playing it ever since. I would reccomend it to any pokemon or racing lover. The graphics are pretty good for a pokemon racing game and its a totally different plot for a pokemon game!

Pokemon's fans must play
