Pokemon has always been one of my favorite games since I was a wee boy, but this Pokemon has a storyline that has truely transformed my opinion of the storylines of the games. The game has gone from saving the world from an evil organization bent on taking over the world or altering the world to an insane organization trying to destroy the world. The creation of the world is even issued here. For religious reasons, children might be confused by this game. However, the storyline is not all that has improved. The game's graphics have been drastically improved, including battle animations for each Pokemon, over 100 new species of Pokemon, bringing the total to 493, an amazing cutscene, an improved Pokedex that lets you see different genders of Pokemon (for that matter, the Pokemon differ in gender now), and lots of legendaries. With easy and fun compatability with the GBA Pokemon games and WiFi trading, this game makes it a little easier to catch all 493. Some problems with the game is the WiFi trading itself. One issue with it is that nobody wants a free trade. In the original Pokemon, everybody wanted a Mew for a Ratatta. The same applies here, only on a global level. It is hard to come across a good trade, but they are able to be found and are extra-rewarding. One nice things about the early Japanese versions is that it has a critical glitch that allows you to surf through the door in the elite 4, allowing you to go anywhere, including event locations. This means you won't have to wait for an event to happen, though in the American versions, you cannot do this. With WiFi, events should be easier to do on a worldwide level. This game is something that cannot be missed out on. With many new features, including Pal Park (this is how you transfer Pokemon from previous games), the ability to catch most Pokemon in one version, WiFi trading, and touch-screen tools, Pokemon hasn't been more fun.
Decent for what it is

I personally like this version of pokemon because not only do I use it to remove boredom, I also use it to talk to my friends around the world. I also use it to communicate with my girlfriend in a building where there is no signal for her cell phone. I use the voice chat feature in the game and we talk when we need to. The game itself is like any other pokemon game except this one adapts the old gba versions to complete the national pokedex. I haven't finished both versions yet but am striving to catch them all :)
Great

Most of the new pokemons not that great; however, the game is great because you could trade worldwide, go into the underground turnel to digs, catch pokemons that you migrate from other games, and there are more unique classes. There are other evolutions that need to be found and a lots of new pokemons.

I never got into the Pokemon phenom before Diamond and Pearl. Somehow though, my seven yr old found out about them, and loved them. She waited anxiously for Diamond and Pearl and we went out and bought her Diamond right away.
At one point she got stuck and asked me to help. Rolling my eyes and huffing and puffing, I took the DS from her. I started to play. Then I started to ask her questions. Then I didn't want to give the Nintendo BACK to her. In a few minutes, I was hooked!! I went out a few days later and bought another DS and Pearl. My husband chuckled at the Mom and Daughte duo comparing notes, and Pokemon.
Well, she got stuck again, and since I was busy with my own Pokemon, she asked her dad. He huffed and puffed and took the DS to help. He started asking questions, he didn't want to give the DS back, and within days had his own copy of Diamond to play. (although not his own ds).
Great game, with great graphics and almost never ending list of things to do or find. Also a great way to bring the family together. Pokemon is the main topic in our house on most days. LOL
Great deal!

My son bought this game because he said the price was too good to pass up. He received the game soon after and has really enjoyed it. The savings were a plus.
its good, but the worst of the series imo

I'm sorry to say, but this has got to be the least fun pokemon game i've ever played. After I get through the bad stuff tho, I will list some good stuff. So don't skip this review.
The game is fun, but, personally I think the online aspect ruins it. You can get all sorts of stuff through trading that you usually won't be able to get too easily, and I find that a tad annoying. Plus, The dialogue is terrible. It's gotten extremely cheesy and at points i was shocked at how bad it is. The bad guy team in this game was also really annoying, and the fact that half the members of it didn't seem to have a clue what was going on didn't help. Theres also many new terrain types which are no fun at all, such as snow, fog, and swamps. Fog you can't see a darn thing when you're walking around, and the only way to clear it is to use an HM move. I don't like to have to remove my good attacks to put really weak HM attacks on my pokemon just to get further in the game, and this game seems to really emphasize HM's.
The pokemon gyms have also turned into giant puzzles which take quite some time to figure out at times. While this is probably welcome for most people as it adds a new level of gameplay, I personally prefer the walk in the room and beat up the leader approach of older games gyms.
But what really killed it for me is the lack of stuff to do after you beat the game. I love being able to continue playing a game after I beat it, and most pokemon games (especially gold and silver) have stuff to do afterwards. Pokemon Diamond and Pearl do have stuff, but it is incredibly boring. I continued playing for about 3 days after I beat it, and got bored and stopped. I managed to get over 100 hours of gameplay out of pokemon ruby after i beat the elite 4. (i had about 180 hours of gameplay before I started over, and it probably took 50 or less to beat the story mode)
If you don't mind this lack of fun after you beat the game, then by all means get it. And if the ability to get almost anything in the game online appeals to you, then, you should probably already have this game. But I found those parts to be annoying, so, It is my least favorite in the series.
Another great Pokemon game

Bought it for my daughter who has just about every pokemon game made for GBA and DS and this is by far her favorite one. Its a little harder than the previous ones to get badges but she likes the challenges more.

When Red and Blue came out 10+ years ago, it was THE GAME to have. It was awesome. Since then, Pokemon games have been not nearly as good as the original (probably since they took out the cheats and glitches =]). This is easily better than Red and Blue. This game is absolutely phenomenal. I thought this would be just a retarded game worth laughing at. It's much better. I would be willing to pay $50-$60 for it.

I got this game today and it is totally awesome! I have a couple of pokemon and they are so cool! The effects are 3D and work well with the animation. I LOVE this game!
I don't know what everyone here sees in this franchise still.

I guess many people enjoy these battles over and over again, and I must admit that for a while, I was hooked on leveling up my Pokemon. But now that my team is just under level 30, I got really bored. The only thing truly exciting in this game is the gym battles.
Positives:
*Gym battles are fun
*Very colorful graphics, the town's 2D/3D effect was very nice and the Pokemon sprites are good as they were in Ruby/Sapphire and Leaf Green/Fire Red
*Cute Pokemon (I was really happy about this - many of Ruby's/Sapphire's Pokemon looked a bit weird and deformed, but they changed that for Pearl/Diamond)
Negatives
*Battles are fun in the beginning, but tedious after about 20 hours of playing this game
*Even though there are new places and towns, it still feels like the same formulaic stuff that you've been seeing since Blue/Red versions
This game is definitely overrated on this site. But at least I got my say in it!
3.75 stars.
