this game was my cup of tea

Well, I was 12 when this game came out in '88. I remember it fondly, as I was into the whole general area of culture which included thrash metal, skating, comic books and horror movies, and so I recently bought a copy in a used game store so's I could settle in with some nice, nostalgic gaming. So I start to play and, WHOA DUDE, I can't believe I was ever skilled with these crap controls; I used to be able to pull every trick volitionally in freestyle! I used to be able to actually leave the ramp in the high jump! I shut it off after about 10 unsatisfying <-(understatement) minutes. The only event that was actually playable was the pool joust. Then I remembered: I USED TO PLAY THIS GAME WITH THE MAX CONTROLLER!! Yes, the nes MAX controller is essential to actually PLAY this game.
I don't have any problem with the graphics or sound.
To me the game does a great job of representing aspects of the culture.
How much fun is this game? Well, without the MAX controller it is ridiculously un-fun, 1 out of 5 stars. WITH the MAX controller back in those days of '88 it was probably a 4.5 out of 5 stars for me. It was fun once I mastered the controls and friends came over to compete.

This game had it all; skateboards, purple mohawks, and the man trying to keep you down. There are several events you can skate in such as the half-pipe, high jump, a race, freestyle and a few others. This game is pretty fun but it was a little difficult to learn how to be decent at it. Overall though, I really like this game, especially for it's cultural value.
