Rugby- This game was probably made by Americans

Even though I am an American, I love rugby. This game is a good first step to bring rugby to a video game console. Since it is made by EA Sports, it already gets a strike there. EA sports worries too much about graphics, and not about gameplay. I love it when you can tackle a guy half-way across the screen. Only in an EA Sports game can you do that. (Like in madden when you run into the person and they don't fall down) This game is also missing some laws and players, but I'm sure the average American wouldn't know the difference. Never has the ref called "handling in the ruck", the throws for line outs are always straight, and the scrum will never turn 90 degrees. Great Players are missing from all the teams. Merceron, JeanJean, and Galthie are missing from France, and Butch James is missing from South Africa, just to name a few. Other than that, this game is great. I used to play this for hours straight. The commentating is great, and the sound is great too. A must buy for ps2 fans!!!

Take all the controlled mayhem of football, subtract the helmets, pads and protective wear, and you've got rugby - perhaps the roughest organized team sport in the world.THIS IS NOT FOR THE WEAK. THIS IS FOR THE TOUGH GUYS THAT CAN GO AND TACKLE A GUY WITHOUT PADS OR PROTECTION. FORGET FOOTBALL!! GO AND START THE SCRUMS AND RUCKS YOU BETTER BE READY FOR RUGBY 2002 ITS GONNA BE BIG !!

Shipping my order of Rugby 2002 today... god I can't wait. I have previously played EA's "Great Rugby" a japanese release. It is loads of fun, and I have viewed the CPU demo for Rugby 2002. I am expecting nothing short of greatness from the boys at Entertainment Arts this time, I'm sure they'll do for rugby what Madden did for video football years ago.

the "essence" of football

Ah,football season is upon us again.I had been playing NFL2K3 like a madman ever since I got my new PS2 a couple weeks ago. Then one day I purchased Rugby. Can't put it down.Once you get the hang of this game it is up there with sports games like Madden,Fifa,StreetHoops,NFL2K3,NHL live, etc. The only complaint I have is no analog but you get used to it and learn to love it.Nothing like kicking the ball ahead of the pack and diving ahead of the nearest defender and scoring a trye.

Hmmm...

What is supposed to be rugby feels more like Mario Party. The idea that you have to tap buttons to get the ball is ludacris, and I hope they do the next one differently. (If there even will be a next one.)

Is this a joke??

I can't believe the company that makes Madden put this out. The graphics are terrible. It looks like either PS1 or N64. The camera is far away and the words are very hard to read. It is entertaining if you are a rugby fan but not for anyone else. The graphics are a disgrace I cant believe EA Sports put this out with a clear conscience.

I though tha RUGGBY was a really awsome once I got the hang of the controls. They are kind of screwy at first but once you get the hang of it this game is sooooo cool. It helped me learn the rules of rugby 100 times faster than if I were just to watch a game. It is definatley a really hard game with many degrees of difficulty from playing Uruguay (Easy) To Playing Australia(Almost un-beatable). If your are looking for an awsome game to buy, look no further and purchase EA's RUGBY!

Disappointing

I have played rugby for many years. I was excited when I saw this game, but am very disappointed by the performance. The camera angles make it very difficult to tell when you have the ball. One second you're running back on defense and the next you have the ball and are running backward. The graphics are very poor, not anywhere near PS2 quality. More control of how the backline is set up and being able to reposition players waiting for the kick off would be handy.
On the other hand my son who has never played rugby loves the game.
I echo the advice of the people who say rent this game, unfortunately it appears to have disappeared from rental places and toy stores alike. Good luck trying to find it.

must be joking

im sorry but if anyone has played johna lomu rugby for playstation one then im sure they will be just as dissapointed as i am with this excuse of a game. i am aware that johna was not available for america but with the advances that developers are claiming with the playsation two, how can a game released five years ago for the playsation one be so supperior to this effort from EA sport, who i may add have done so well with their other sport games. No sidesteps in a game of rugby, thats like having no slam dunking in a basketball game! How can a company like EA sport fail to improve on a game produced five years ago by codemasters????

Camera angle PLEASE!!

Ok, this games cool if you leave out the corny camera angle the language that nobody knows like "line-out, scrum", and crap like that. I wish somebody would just make a game without trying to go overboard. Unfortuanetly they did.
