Rugby- This game was probably made by Americans

Even though I am an American, I love rugby. This game is a good first step to bring rugby to a video game console. Since it is made by EA Sports, it already gets a strike there. EA sports worries too much about graphics, and not about gameplay. I love it when you can tackle a guy half-way across the screen. Only in an EA Sports game can you do that. (Like in madden when you run into the person and they don't fall down) This game is also missing some laws and players, but I'm sure the average American wouldn't know the difference. Never has the ref called "handling in the ruck", the throws for line outs are always straight, and the scrum will never turn 90 degrees. Great Players are missing from all the teams. Merceron, JeanJean, and Galthie are missing from France, and Butch James is missing from South Africa, just to name a few. Other than that, this game is great. I used to play this for hours straight. The commentating is great, and the sound is great too. A must buy for ps2 fans!!!

This game is AWESOME!

Alright all you Rugby freaks, here is a game that can hold you over until the next world cup. Sure, Rugby 2004 is hitting stores pretty soon, but what the heck, this is one fun game.
They have 20 of the world's top national teams, like England, Australia, and South Africa. They also have teams from places like Italy, Fiji, and the United States. This game is non-stop action, unlike it's American-born cousin, the madness never ends. This means that you have to keep hitting the buttons on your controller, and by the end of a 6-minute half, your thumbs are dead.
They pack three of the world's best tournements in here, including the World Cup, the European Six-Nations, and the Southern Hemisphere Tri-Nations. I'm currently assalting the World Cup, heading up the USA Eagles. This game is tough if you play fair, but you can always boost your performance up to 150% to destroy your opposition.
Sure the graphics aren't anywhere near those like NFL2K3, but I can still make out whose my player and where the ball is. But the camera can be bothersome sometimes, especially during a ruck or scrum.
Other than these gripes, I totally reccomend Rugby 2002 for any Rugby nut (even if you're the only rugby fan in your county) and even some soccer and football game fans.

This is a really fun version of the international sport of rugby. Being a second generation rugby player, I love the sport and I loved this game. It was a fun and realistic version of the popular sport which seems to be popular everywhere except here in America. This game was fun, with at least 20 international teams including dominant world-powers such as New Zealand, Austrailia, and England, and some lacking teams such as Spain, USA, and Romania, but every team is fun and realistic. It has all my favorite international teams and all of my favorite players. The game is realistic, the graphics are OK but the gameplay is fantastic. While the controller configuration takes some getting used to, playing in the rucks, scrums and line-outs is fun. So is all the running, passing, kicking, and scoring. This is one of my favorite sports games and I reccomend it to any rugby fan or anybody lookign for a good sports game.

What is supposed to be rugby feels more like Mario Party. The idea that you have to tap buttons to get the ball is ludacris, and I hope they do the next one differently. (If there even will be a next one.)

Ah,football season is upon us again.I had been playing NFL2K3 like a madman ever since I got my new PS2 a couple weeks ago. Then one day I purchased Rugby. Can't put it down.Once you get the hang of this game it is up there with sports games like Madden,Fifa,StreetHoops,NFL2K3,NHL live, etc. The only complaint I have is no analog but you get used to it and learn to love it.Nothing like kicking the ball ahead of the pack and diving ahead of the nearest defender and scoring a trye.

This is one of the most insane, fun sports games out there. But warning: do not try to play this game like you would any American sports game. Learn the rules first and then play. Many people just dismiss this game because they don't know how to play. Read the manual, take the tutorial, and get ready for one of the best sports games out there!!!!

Disappointing

I have played rugby for many years. I was excited when I saw this game, but am very disappointed by the performance. The camera angles make it very difficult to tell when you have the ball. One second you're running back on defense and the next you have the ball and are running backward. The graphics are very poor, not anywhere near PS2 quality. More control of how the backline is set up and being able to reposition players waiting for the kick off would be handy.
On the other hand my son who has never played rugby loves the game.
I echo the advice of the people who say rent this game, unfortunately it appears to have disappeared from rental places and toy stores alike. Good luck trying to find it.

I though tha RUGGBY was a really awsome once I got the hang of the controls. They are kind of screwy at first but once you get the hang of it this game is sooooo cool. It helped me learn the rules of rugby 100 times faster than if I were just to watch a game. It is definatley a really hard game with many degrees of difficulty from playing Uruguay (Easy) To Playing Australia(Almost un-beatable). If your are looking for an awsome game to buy, look no further and purchase EA's RUGBY!

Is this a joke??

I can't believe the company that makes Madden put this out. The graphics are terrible. It looks like either PS1 or N64. The camera is far away and the words are very hard to read. It is entertaining if you are a rugby fan but not for anyone else. The graphics are a disgrace I cant believe EA Sports put this out with a clear conscience.
