TERRIBLE

This is the worst football game i've ever played! The graphics are sketchy and the gameplay is exactly the same as NFL 2k5. Bringing legends back in a a game is a dumb idea! I think the idea of having fake teams, fake stadiums and fake players would be a smart and fun idea. But if your gioing to have fake stadiums and teams make the players fake to BLITZ the league did it and it was fun! This game is very bad I think that 2k games should make every player fake it's way more creative! if the don't do that the might as well just get off the market and quit wasting their and our time!

What happened 2k?

Ok, first things first, I'm not a fanboy of either Madden or 2k. Pretty much loved Madden football up until 2005. After that, 2k took my attention with 2k5, which I liked slightly better than Madden 05. The next generation maddens (06 and 07) were pure garbage, which made me fiend for another 2k title. Well, I got it, and its...pure GARBAGE, lol. I couldnt believe my eyes. I didnt see this one comin folks.

The graphics are horrible.....The gameplay is horrible. It actually seems worse than 2k5. Come on people, lets be honest, I understand everyone has their own opinion, but you dudes sayin this is a good football game, absolutely cannot be playing the same game. Are there two different versions? Did I get the beta copy or somethin, lol?

EA sports in all honesty I think will dominate this year. If ncaa 08 is a sign of things to come (usually madden is a little better than the college) Madden is going to completely smash 2k this year. I have to wait on the next 2k, and maybe they'll step it up a bit. I've had plenty of games that weren't good, but this is the very first time I will honestly say I wasted 64 bucks.

2K sports FUMBLED BIG TIME

Waited for this title eagerly for years. Unfortunately, it came out to be the biggest game disappointment of the year. I have been a fan of the series since the days of Dreamcast NFL 2K and I have bought and enjoyed every single installment. This is the exception. If you have 2K5 don't even bother to buy this one. 2K5 is way better. I gave it 1 star just because there is no option for Zero stars. I guess we are stuck with mediocre Madden whether we want it or not.
Way to drop the ball 2K sports!!!

Huge Dissapointment

My friend in I played this gamelast night. Gameplay was incredibly dissapointing with both of us struggling to get Joe Montana and Randall Cunningham to throw and accurate pass over 20 yards. The superstars are not that great compared to generic players on the field (which their are a lot of) and the game play is choppy. Graphically it could stand improvement as the player's look "placed" on the field and not part of the environment. Finally, the different game play modes are incredibly limited. We made it through half of a game, turned it off and I am off to Gameforce to sell it back today. This game would've been a ripoff at the old 2K prices.

No Fun

This is one of the worst games I have ever played. It is so stupid. It is based on legends that played football. It is nothing like madden. My advice is do not buy this game save yourself some money.

Disappointment of the year

I loved the 2k games for Dreamcast and NFL 2K5 was probably the last great football game. I thought All Pro Football 2K8 would usher in a return to greatness for the 2K series. However, after playing the game for roughly three hours, I see that my prediction was grossly incorrect. Let me break it down for you.

The graphics are atrocious. If you didn't know any better you'd swear you were playing an original Xbox game or even a playstation II game. There's clipping; players disappear under the field; the models are some of the worst I've seen on a next-gen console; the animations are recycled from 2K5... I could go on and on, but my main point is that I can't say one good thing about these graphics. Oh and the framerate also sucks.

The gameplay is average. If you liked 2K5, you'll probably like this game a lot because it's a carbon copy of 2K5 albeit without the NFL players. However, if you were expecting more on the 360, you'll be extremely disappointed. The pass plays, run players, and defenses are all EXACTLY the same from 2K5. Did the developers put ANY effort into this game? Defense is boring and offense is awkward. There's nothing like waiting 5+ seconds for your gold star quarterback to even be in position to make a pass. And don't even get me started about receivers stopping after they've completed their routes.

Online play is one area where the game shines, but does it really matter when everything else is so horrible? That's something you'll have to decide for yourself. As for me, my copy already went on eBay.

Value is nonexistent. Remember when this game was fun and used to cost $29.99 AND it had all the NFL players in it? Now it's $59.99 with no NFL players and the gameplay is the terrible.

Better luck next time, Visual Concepts.

Just because Madden is bad doesn't make this good...

Comparisons are bound to happen when two football games go head to head. This one doesn't even get out of the tunnel. I read a lot of reviews and I don't know if there is a crack epidemic resurging or people hate madden so bad they just WANT something to be good. But wanting and getting are two seperate things in life.

There are a number of unforgivable flaws in this game, a few good things and some potential, but ultimately, this game falls shorter than a 2 yard gain on 4th and long.

The good:
The graphics are serviceable but I was not blown away. The voice work is alright, but if you're not paying name actors, why not make it super deep with ton's of statements. Still, I didn't hate it. And thankfully, there were no super repetative "maddenisms", but then again, I only played this game for a day before I was bored with it.

Classic players are a cool function and it's all well and good, but not when you're supposed to play them like they are the current players. Classic players are for unlocking and team building later. Why not just make up some players for you to get to know and play, or better yet, randomize it. It might made the gameplay a little bit deeper.

The Bad:
The game play is as shallow as it can be without morphing into 2k5. The plays are incredibly simple and the recievers run the routes like they are drunk and loitering. They finish the route and just stand there, but guess who doesnt, the D... they swarm around them and if you even try it, INT. The game is pretty simple and the kicking is interesting but inevitabley that's not enough to set it appart from Madden which is what this game was supposed to be doing.

Madden Killer? Not even a Madden annoyance...
It's like 2K is going backwards. First you got an arcade alternative with 2k5 but now thanks to EA, you get even less in the fact they are trying to gimmick it up to cover the lack of NFL license. Pathetic!

Just like I said in my review of 2k5 forever ago, I really wanted this game to be successful. I thought it was going to be a great alternative to the monopoly EA currently has over the NFL and would be something that might even push EA to improve the Madden brand to be a more solid all around game. But basically, there was nothing creative about this game and for sixty dollars, it should be damn near curing your cancereous body parts if this is the gameplay they expect you to tolerate. It's not a value. 29.99 and it might be a value, but do yourself a favor... wait a week and if you really MUST play it, buy one from the soon to be flood of them on ebay.

Save your money folks.

WOW! IT'S 2K5 WITHOUT CRIB!

This game is basically 2k5 without the crib. Commentary is exactly the same! Only improvement is stadium! I would wait for madden 08 or rent it...so you won't be disappointed like I was!

Could have been better

As someone who preferred NFL2k over Madden I was excited to hear 2k was back in the football business and doubly so after hearing that they would have NFL legends form the core of their new game. I couldn't wait to run the ball with Barry Sanders or throw a bullet pass with Dan Marino or John Elway.

Creating a team is quick and easy allowing you to be done and playing in a few minutes. The players look and perform very much like the did in real life and most of them even have highly detailed facial features that actually look like the real thing. The game play looks good too, with great animations and controls, but it feels a little sluggish to me. However, this could just be a next-gen thing because NCAA08 also feels sluggish on my XBOX 360 compared to my old XBOX.

So far I have loved creating teams and playing with the legends, but the reason this game gets only 3 stars from me is the lack of a franchise mode. I don't play online and I rarely play head to head. So, to me, franchise mode is everything and the lack of it for this title means that the re-playability is very limited. At least there is a season mode where you can play through a schedule and compete in the playoffs, but without a franchise mode to give it context the season play seems hollow.

All in all this is a great game for nostalgic football fans or head-to-head gamers, but a little disappointing for franchise players.

Not Quite Next Gen But A Good Effort

I am a huge 2K football fan. I played all of their games since the initial 2K release on the Dreamcast. When EA took the license, I was crushed. I was basically forced to play Madden but opted for the PC version (where I can at least save a game in progress.)

When I heard 2K8 was going to come back without the license, I got pretty excited. So, I purchased an XBOX 360 just to get this game.

So, I came home with my copy of All Pro Football 2K8, popped it in and got to a game. Initially, I was like "This is Next Gen?" I was a little upset that this is what I waited and paid $60.00 for. (I actually picked up a cheap copy of Madden 07 and played it for a while.)

But as time passed, I kept getting more and more curious about the game and started to play out the lackluster but functional season mode. I started to become more impressed with the animations and the presentation of the game.

Then I headed online..despite a problem where someone disconnected instead of quitting fairly, I am loving on-line play. You get a more competitive game and I've had some real close ones. I am interested in the leagues but it doesn't look like they are getting off the ground well (no one has generated their schedules yet.)

The presentation is great as always. Despite the commentary being 80% recycled from 2K5, this is still miles ahead of any other sports game out there. The halftime and postgame shows are back too.

As a whole, this is not the great "next gen" football we've been looking for and a lot of it seems like 2K5 repackaged and stripped of ESPN. But, given the realistic game play (QB's feet need to be set, etc) and good animation and presentation, this one beats out Madden 08 this year and when they get the NFL back...look out!
