A divergent yet entertaining take on Worms

First thing I noticed while playing this game was that the designers seemed to be responding to half the complaints that generally arise amongst avid players of Worms. That said, there are generally two ways of playing previous Worms games. You had those players who went all out to FIND someone and beat them. These are the people who mastered the ninja rope. Then you have the defense oriented players. They would dig a hole and put some girders up and relied heavily on grenades. It seems that complaints about Ninja Rope masters have been heeded for this version of Worms. No more cheesy baseball bat homerun kills (drat!) and hardly any water kills.

So first off, this game has NO ninja rope.. (among quite a few other favorite weapons) so it becomes A LOT more about positioning and fortifications (duh!). With Worms3D, people expected the same old Worms with a 3D twist.. and for the most part it delivered (with some glitches).. This game is NOT that. There is a huge aspect of strategy devoted to which buildings you build and how you build them. This is all on top of trying to blow the crud out of the other guy with some of the craziest weapons ever created. (A moose in a slingshot?)

For 20 bucks, it's definitely worth it. But be advised that there is now a more level playing field amongst your friends. That guy who loves the Ninja rope is going to declare this game is horrible until.. of course... he gets the hang of it.

Other changes that may be worth noting are a lack of destructible environments, no random landscape generator and the ability to control the old woman. This, along with the Chili Con Carnage.. are two items that come in quite handy.

As for 1st player.. you had better master grenade type throws because the computer can be quite merciless with their unerring Refrigerator bombs.

Twists to old Worms? Correct.

The game has a slight twist from regular Worms games, the fact that basically all the weapons have been changed. No more Super Sheep, dynamite, heck, even the Concrete Donkey is not in this game. All of the weapons (parring the Air Strike, Fire Punch, Bazooka & Grenade) need to be fire rooftops, which I find highly annoying. This game is supposed to be in the past, but some old guy called the Supreme Being has granted them with future technologies (or so I think). Also, many brand-new weapons have been added.

Pros:

All-new weapons.
In 3-d.
Some good twists.
New headdresses.
New voices.
Some pretty cool new weapons.
You can build buildings in 'squares' to fire things from them, but some buildings have special
powers (aka. weapon crate spawning). However, the buildings with uneven roofs have the special powers.
You can build buildings without ending the turn.
Huge map areas.

Cons:

Many of the old Worms weapons have not been spotted.
Almost all Worms weapons need to be fired from rooftops.
Lack of destructible environments.
No terrain editor.
Very little maps at beginning (4 maps). (One of the main reasons I rated it a 4.)
Gets boring after a while.
Not much different styles of playing.
More unpredictable 'tall falls.'
When a building is destroyed that makes a gap between other buildings and the Stronghold, all the other buildings fall down. However, Fortpot can change it.
Buildings need to be constructed next to each other.
Highly annoying against the computer sometimes.

Now that you get what I'm saying, think about if you want to buy this game or not. If you want something new, Worms Forts is the way to go. If not, leave it alone.

go get em!

I have enjoyed playing this game. Yes some parts of it make you want to pull your hair out, but over all it is fun. Most areas I had to play a few times to find the week spot and how to best take down the enemy. It was also fun playing against my teenagers. The worst of the game is when playing two players there is sudden death which seems to drag the game out.

This game is awesome! It has many enhancements since the past games, and it improves in almost every way. The only thing that I don't like about this game is that you cannot destroy the actual level.

Great Game!

This game is very challenging at first figuring out distances and where to aim certain weapons...but once you get the hang of it, it is a very fun game :o)
