First off, let me say this, skip the GBA port of this game. Buy the SNES version instead for better controls and higher quality music. DKC2 is IMO, the best of the series. Challenging gameplay, wonderful music and great graphics at the time. Still fun after all these years!

One of the Greatest Games Ever

This is without a doubt my favorite game of all time. As the second installment in the Donkey Kong series, it takes all of the positives from the first game, fixes some issues with difficulty and length, and raps it all up into the perfect package. This game is flawless. Despite not being able to play as Donkey Kong or even see him until late in the game, this is THE game to play in the series; probably THE game to play for the SNES. Story, characters, environments, soundtrack, gameplay. All of the basic elements of the video game are excecuted here to perfection.

First, what I think is one of the strongest points of the game. The music. By far the best soundtrack I've ever experienced for a video game, save for maybe a few Final Fantasy games. To think that an SNES game could generate such a rich, deep and atmospheric soundtrack is almost staggering in this day and age. Drums, horns, strings, and various unique sound effects make up this musical masterpiece. No level has an un-memorable song; it never gets old. Combined perfectly with the lush, detailed environments, the music stands out here as some of the best ever for a video game. Popping in this game and playing the Bramble Scramble level takes me back ten years to my childhood; it will stay with you for that long.

The level design in this game is phenomenal. The range of environments here is equally massive as it is balanced. Pirate ships, volcanoes, swamps, caves, forests, theme parks, castles, islands, glaciers, etc, etc, etc. All of the worlds have their own distinct atmosphere and flavor. Even some next-generation games today with the latest in graphics technology cannot match the pure beauty and artistic design of these environments. The flow of the game is also extremely impressive. There is no "bad" world. The levels make use of different layouts, enemies, allies, secrets and bosses to keep the experience fresh and exciting. This game pushed the side-scrolling genre to it's limits; it has all of the epic, awe-inspiring moments of an RPG without the annoying aspects of repetitive dungeons or turn-based action.

Speaking of gameplay, it's easy to learn and hard to master. One of the biggest gripes about the first Donkey Kong was that it was too short and too easy. Diddy's Kong Quest is neither. Obtaining 100% completion in this game is no easy task; again, it's on par with some of the toughest RPGs. As an SNES game, the control layout couldn't be more simple. Jump, run, hit things. But even in these simple actions, a whole lot of depth can be found. The bonus levels and secret sections within each level require intuitive thinking and full use of the surrounding environments.

I could say so much more about this wonderful game. But it just has to be experienced to understand how great a game this is. It ranks up there with Final Fantasy VII and Ocarina of Time, games that pushed their genres to new levels.

Long live Kong!

One of the Best SNES games ever.

This is my favorite Donkey Kong game out of the 3. All of them are extremely good games-very entertaining. This one is kind of hard if you want to try to get all of the DK coins from all of the levels in order to get the proper ending. You can find some really fun cheats online for this game, which also makes it really fun.

Anyway, this game is one of the classics-up there with Super Mario World and Super Metroid. The soundtrack is amazing (like all of the Donkey Kong Country games), some of the levels get to be quite challenging (especially when you want to find all of the DK coins), and the graphics are really lush and beautiful. I would definitly recommend this game to everyone.

This game was awesome the music was so groovy and catchy and the new enimies were perfect too. perfect story diddy kong and his girlfriend dixie kong the new character are on a quest to rescue donkey kong who was kidnapped by king k rool and his crew. The levels were pretty rare and fun they have new animal friends like a snake and the spider. I enjoyed this game and it's a shame they don't make super NES's anymore mine still works very good but sometimes gets defective with faulty powering.

Fun!

I love this game, it is very challenging, yet it is fun to play. It's slightly easier than the first game in some aspects (like Dixie can fly short distances), but in other areas it's more difficult.

I liked the bonus stages!

Donkey Kong has been kidnapped by K. Rool again. However, Diddy Kong is left behind, but is he alone in this quest? Nope, with the help from Dixie Kong, both Kongs are off to save Donkey Kong and beat K. Rool again!

I must say that this game is even more enjoyable than the first of the series, and the 1st Donkey Kong Country is already a classic. Dixie Kong has some special abilities she has to offer here. When she twirls her hair, she can defeat the baddies and also glide in the air. A new feature for the series!

Another new feature is the Kong Throwing method, in which you can team up both Diddy and Dixie and use it to grab out-of-reach items and platforms (you must have both Kongs in order to use it, though).

Your animals buddies also increase, with the help of a springy snake and a web-making spider. Squawks, Rambi, and Enguarde also come back, better than ever!

The music and the graphics are excellent. Again, Rareware's production make the 16-bit look improved, and the soundtrack is just as great as the first.

Overall, if you are looking for a masterpiece of an SNES game, put in Donkey Kong Country 2 and prepare to play with the chimps.

Just As good as the first.

I got this game about ten years ago for my birthday, needless to say, I was entranced by the stunning beauty of this game. Being a fan of the original Donkey Kong Country, I loved its amazing sequal.

The plot: DK gets kidnapped by K.Rool. It's up to Diddy and Dixie to save him now. You have eight worlds to traverse to, amazing environments to get through, and dozens of baddies to stomp. Classic DK country.

How about the graphics...probably the best I've seen for the SNES; the paralax scrolling is maginificent. On pirate ship levels, the water in the background is 3-dimensional and scrolls at different paces. The graphics are very clear and vivid, and really bring out the sharpness in the game. This game has adopted the theme of pirates; remember all the kremlings in DKC 1? Now they all have pirate clothing and peglegs and stuff.

Speaking of kremlings, let's run through the bestiary. From hopping kremlings to invincible zingers (bees), the enemy range is very wide; each enemy has its own strengths and weaknesses. One particualr kremling dual-wields two swords, and is only vulnerable when he gets them stuck in the ground. There are also different colored variations of enemies; the pink version of this kremling has his swirds stuck in the ground for a much shorter amount of time, so it's tougher to kill him.

Level design--this is an amazing part; there is so much diversity of stages in the game, it's not even funny. There are carnival stages where you're on a roller coaster trying to dodge closing gates, there is a giant haunted mansion where fifty-foot ghosts chase you down while you're driving a rusty old minecart, and there are levels in which you are underwater. Did you think there were only these level types? Guess again: pirate ships, ship sails, lava, boiling water levels, giant towers with toxic water following you up, sunken sea ships, forests of thorn bushes, etc. I could go on and on.

The music is amazing. The theme of the bramble forest levels is particularly awesome to listen to while you're playing; I sometimes pause the game just to listen to that song play. Or you could listen to the mysterious tune of the gloomy gulch stages, which are also cool.

Even if you beat this game, there is still plenty more to do: collect all the DK coins. Collect all the Bonus game coins. Comlete World 8: The Lost World. This game will never have you bored.

As far as difficulty goes, this game has got it all; the first level? A baby could do it. However, there is a level near the end of the game called "Toxic Tower," in which intoxicated water floods the inside of a tower while you struggle to climb up and up and up away from it. All in all, the more worlds you master, the tougher the levels are.

And now for some hints:
--On the map screen, when your character is standing on a level, its name will appear. If there is an exclamation point next to the level name, it means you have all the Bonus coins there. If there's a DK symbol, then you've found the DK coin.

--Collect banana coins! Use them to save your game at Wrinkly Kong's house, to ask for secret gameplay hints from Cranky (which are VERY handy) and to warp to worlds that you've previously visited in Funky's Flights, or to compete in Swanky's minigames to earn extra lives.

The fun never stops! If you have an SNES, get this game. If you don't, then buy the system and this game. You'll regret it.

BEST of the Greatest Series of All-Time

Concept: Take an incredibly fun game(Donkey Kong Country) and make it better by including better graphics, better music(my favorite soundtrack of all time), a better plot, new pals and more bad guys.

Story: Donkey Kong gets kidnapped by King K. Rool and it is up to Diddy(sidekick on Donkey Kong Country) and Dixie to save him. Old pals aiding you in your questare Rambi the Rhino(brute strength), Enguarde the swordfish(defeat underwater foes), and Squawks the parrot(to fly). You also have new pals: Rattly the rattlesnake(mad hops), Squitter the spider(webs to reach higher goals), Clapper the seal(to freee water or cool it), and Glimmer the angler fish(to help see underwater).

Graphics: Look at this game. You can tell me the pirate theme is not cool. The environments are incredible for being a SNES game. If you thought Donkey Kong Country looked good wait till you see this one.

Best seen on Lost World levels

Music: You'll love Diddy's monkey rap and Dixie's strumming the electric guitar. Thats just when you beat the level. You will find yourself humming the beat to yourself everywhere you go. The soundtrack is so amazing that I had to download it and put it on a cd so I could listen to it wherever I go.

Best heard on the Krazy Kremland levels

Difficultly: The game puts up little resistance when trying to beat it but trying to master it(100% comletion) is extremely difficult. Some levels may be harder than others but there are a few trials in the game.

Best examples on Gloomy Gulch levels

Gameplay: You have some new moves in this one. You can team up and throw your partner to reach higher platforms of defeat enemies. You also can do a helicopter spin with Dixie for reach far away platforms.

Overall: As I stated for the title, this is my favorite series of all time and all the Donkey Kong's for SNES are MASTERPIECES. It's a shame to see that Nintendo has been making spin-offs of Donkey Kong(Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, King of Swing, Donkey Konga 1 & 2, & Mario vs. Donkey Kong), while these games may or may not be good, we have yet to see a Donkey Kong platform game since Donkey Kong 64. Whether there is a reason I don't know, but I hope Nintendo will make one before the Revolution comes out.
