A cool Xbox 360 game

This game is an excellent game. At the beginning of the game you start with 85,000 credits which you can buy some good cars (some of the cars you can buy are actually some of the best cars.) After you buy a car you will start racing. Sometimes the game will get linear offline because all you really do is just race.

There are barely any cars 80 cars is not enough! It is relatively easy to get the best car which is the Ferrari F50 GT. The game's graphics are amazing and gorgeous. The graphics are not the only thing that is realistic the way the cars react is realistic, such as applying to much pressure on the throttle will make spin out of control but if you use the brakes you can easily get out of a situation that can get really messy. This is not as good as Gran Turismo, but it is still one the greatest racers ever.

One of the best of it's genre

There's not much I can say about this game that already has been said.

One thing I want to express though, one of the best things about this game in my opinion is how it mixes the qualities of an arcade racer, and a simulator, and gives you the best of both words.

It offers the accessibility and foregiveness of an arcade racer such as Need for Speed, but it offers a deep, and dynamic racing engine that you would find in a simulator like Gran Turismo.

What does this all really mean? It's fun, and not as serious as a straight up simulator, yet the cars have the same variying strengths and weaknesses of their real life counterparts. The porsche handles like it's on rails. The corvette has raw, straight line power. In most arcade racers, all calls have fairly similar performance. Not so in this game. Racing on a track with long straightaways? Better use the Enzo. Going on a track with sudden stops and lots of curves? The RUF is your best bet. There's an ideal car for each situation.

Another smart feature is that the single player challenges and races scale with the car class. This means that if you pick a supercar like the mclaren F1, you will have 1:30 to finish the lap, if you like mustangs, and pick the Shelby cobra, you will have 1:50 to finish the lap. This means that ALL cars are competitive and up to the task. You wont be stuck having to use one or two of the same top cars. PGR3 is an equal opportunity racer.

The selection of cars is extremely impressive. And it gets even better with more cars and tracks available to download. Exotics, classics, imports, domestics, there's something for everybody.

Aside from this, we all know that no video game is perfect. What flaws does this game have? Well, as other reviews have mentioned, there are no drastic or revolutionary advancements with PGR3. It's quite identical to 1 and 2, with most of the changes being in graphics, camera view, garages, and menu/interface changes. The core gameplay is pretty much the same, but there's nothing wrong there. And, in my opinion, there are some real stinkers in the soundtrack. I give them kudos for being different and putting a lot of international music in the game to suit the locations, but some of the music is a bit too "ethnic" for the games demographic. There are a handful of good tunes in the game though. But if you have an iPod connected to the xbox, then you're set.

The highest difficulty in PGR3 is slightly lower than PGR2, and in my personal opinion, I think the adjustment was an improvement. In PGR2, you would have to either be very talented, or have a lot of time to devote in order to acquire all plantinum metals in all races, in PGR3, you can achieve this in a reasonable amount of time. It took me around 15 hours.

Online races have been flawless in my experience. No lag. However, it would have been nice if there could be more than 8 racers in a given time (as long as they were on tracks that didnt have too narrow roads).

All in all, it's a very fun, polished game. It's more like an updated, polished version of PGR2. Definately worth the price it's going for, and imo the best online racer for the system to date.

And if the game doesnt float your boat for some reason, you still got Geometry Wars! Check it out.

It's no PGR 2....

Simply put, this game is no PGR 2. The previous version was much more user friendly, more "arcade" like in terms of the actual racing and feel, and just MORE FUN.

This game very closely resembles another XBOX game called FORZA motorsport, which NEVER hit the level of expectation that people hoped for. It drives and LOOKS very similar to Forza.

The cars are now harder to control, they offer less options in terms of "leveled" cars...most cars are fast, more like "super car" and above when compared to PGR 2.

The new game options are fine, except for this "no collision" option in KUDOS RANKED racing...which is a joke. Collisions is a part of the competition, and now can be turned off even in ranked games.

The good people over at PGR 3 must have played too much FORZA when they created this "twin". Instead of taking a chance and just "upscaling" graphics and adding new tracks and cars to PGR 2, they decided to create a new game, and as usual, it led to what I'd call a disappointment, and I'm a hardcore PGR 2 fan.

Not able to do split screen online

Sure the game has great graphics and sound/music, but if you have someone next to you that wants to play online you have to take turns, both cannot play at the same time. In PGR2 you were able to do split screen and race or do cat and mouse online, but they have taken that mode off from this game. What a shame! Only buy this if used, do not spend the full new price of $49.99.
That's all I have.

Life Begins at 170? Not In My Opinion.

PGR 3 is a game that will not overwhelm you in terms of features. There are only 80 cars and many of them are widely unknown. That said, the graphics are definitely next gen. Shading and light are magnificently combined with sharp, crisp lines and an overall very realistic game. In fact, if you look in the mirrors of the cars you can actually see the real background going past. With five distinct camera viewpoints one will definitely suit you. Physics are sort of realistic, but seem rather simple; most likely based on weight and power. Something that impressed me was the engine sounds; they were considerably different from car to car, but still need some work on the V8 vehicles. You start out with 85,000 credits and have the choice of some ten to fifteen cars at first.

It is clearly an arcade style game and I hate to compare it to the Gran Turismo series, but to me it is a standard which pretty much every other racing game is held to. It falls well short. A kudos system is still used as was in the first and second PGR, which is a thing that when you do powerslides and other crazy driving you get kudos points which I'm not really sure what they do. The only thing I can gather is some of the races involve getting a large amount of kudos in order to finish. I think that is ludicrous-it is a racing game not tokyo street drift. There is an online mode where you can watch other people race or race them yourself. I do not subscribe to xbox live, but I imagine this adds another valuable dimension to the game. In the solo career mode you start with a couple of cities and different challenges are afforded to you-speed camera, cone challenge, street race. There are five game difficulties: hardcore, hard, medium, easy, beginner. For each successive difficulty you gain more credits for completing the challenges.

What I have a problem with is the fact that a car that costs 50,000 credits drives faster and manuvers better than the 300,000 credit Ferrari. The second thing I see wrong with the game is the actual cars. Makers of PGR3 only put cars on the game that have a top speed of 170 mph. That is good and all but you feel kind of like basically Ferrari and Lamborghini are using the game as an advertisement. I would say 25% or more of all the cars on the game are just these. Of course they are amazing race cars but I want to see some more cars that I have heard of. There are plenty of amazing cars electronically limited which I'm sure could easily top out and 170 mph or better. Maybe it is just because I'm used to simulation games where you have fifty car makers are able to customize everything from the air filter to the muffler for more power. What was done most poorly on PGR3 was the illusion of speed, everything seems slower than it should. In the end the game is fun but falls short of what I expected. What I would do to improve the game is add more car makers, better known cars and at least the ability to upgrade the engine. Overall I would give it a 7 out of 10.

Engine Sounds Not The Real Car

PGR3 is a cool game without a doubt. The only flaw I have found is it would appear that they used generic engine sounds for the cars. The Lamborghini engines have a very distinctive 12-cylinder purr that was not implemented in the game. Ferrari engines also have a very distinctive sound as do Corvettes that were just not implemented in the game. I know this may sound petty, but sound is very important in any game to contribute to the total immersion.
Other than that, this is an excellent racer. The cockpit views are excellent and the first time in a long time that any racing game has included very realistice interior views.
Also, thank you for finally adding the Lamborghini line of supercars to the PGR environment. Lamborghini's are some of the best supercars in the world that are often overlooked in racing games!

My favorite XBox 360 game for multiplayer play

This game is great for multiplayer play -- especially with friends who have only the most casual interest in video games. The game's learning curve is so slight that almost anyone can have fun after a very basic introduction to the gaming controls. (You can also ease your friends into the game by starting them in a lower-class car that can more easily handle route curves.) I've had a number of friends over to play my 360, and of the 5 titles I own, this is the one that everyone always wants to play.

The game has great graphics, and each of the cars have such a unique feel that you're sure to find your personal favorites. There are quite a few standard routes to choose from, with varying levels of difficulty, and the game also gives you the ability to create your own custom tracks.

My one criticism of the game is that it only supports two local players (in split-screen mode). (When playing over XBox live, the game supports 8.) This was a disappointing limitation, especially given that I bought extra controllers for this title specifically, hoping to get 4 players going at once. (As a side note, however, this 2-player restriction seems to be a limitation of all racing titles currently developed for the 360.)

If you like sim racers, GET THIS GAME!

This game has many things to do so you will be playing this one for a while. Also the graphics will BLOW UR MIND!
In the offline career mode it is pretty standerd. There are some differences compared to other games though. All the cars must go over 170 mph. Also there are only 80 cars in this game, which is low for a sim-racer. When you start the game 72 cars are unlocked. The other 8 are concept cars unlocked by getting tons of "Kudos". Kudos are style points you get for powersliding or getting air. There are about 20 ways to get kudos. It is pretty easy to get lots of credits (credits are money). So when your about 3 hours into the game you can buy the best car (Ferrari F50 GT). This makes it seem like you will get board of the cars fast. Trust me you won't. This isn't like other games where you only want the 5-10 good cars and want to get the hell out of ur mini cooper. You'll want to get at least 60 out of the 80 cars.
The online career isn't a really a career mode it's just online multiplayer. You can race with up to 8 people. There is ranking to but it is kinda confusing. I didn't really figure it out yet but i moved up from unranked-novice-amatur. There are all the races you can do in single player moved to multiplayer, except the ones u do by urself. The online get really competitive so it will keep u playing for a while.
There are so many revolutionary features in this game. First there is GothamTV. This is where you can watch people race. It sounds boring but it is really cool. On the Gotham Heros Channel you can watch the top 100 people in the world who are racing live. On the Gotham Friends Channel you can watch ur friends race live. You can also view you replays and photos (will talk more about photos below). Another cool options is the route creator. This is where you get a map of one of the cites (Las Vegas, New York, Tokyo, London, and some F1 track in germany) and then you choose the route to make a new track. They claim there are thousands of options but I think it is more like hundreds. You can race on your tracks online and offline. The views in this game are SWEET. There are two third person veiws and to first person views. These are normal. But then they added an in-car view. You accually can see ur drivers hands working the wheel and you can see through your mirrors. All the intiors are reel which makes it xtra COOL! A new feature is photo mode. It was origelally used to take screenshots for the game but Bizarre creations decided to put it in the game. This mode is really deep. When your in a race or watching a replay you can pause the game and enter photo mode. You move your camrea virtually anywhere (within reason). There are also ton of photoshop effects you can add. It is so fun to take cool pictures and argue with your friends whether you took it or it came with the game. Trust me your pictures will look so real and cool. The only drawback is looking at your pictures it the only thing you can do with them. you can't send them to your friends or to your computer they only sit on your harddrive. The last feature is what really makes this game. It is garage mode. Let me explain. In career mode you put your cars in garages. There are nine garages. The first on holds 4 cars and the rest hold 10. You can place your cars in whichever garage and wherever you want. After you have your first car in your garage you can walk around your garage. You can walk around your garage in first person view and enjoy the senery. The feel like reel places. You can look out windows, walk through rooms and look at your couch (good times, good times...), and even walk up to your cars and look inside them (remember the real interoir thing). There is tons of stuff u can do w/ ur garage including photo mode. You can even find two arcade machines inside each garage and play geomatry wars 1 and 2 (which are highly addictive). For more info on garages go to: http://www.bizarreonline.net/index.php?action=fullnews&showcomments=1&id=78
If your looking for Xbox 360s best racer get Project Gotham Racing 3.

Gameplay: Fun but can get boring only offline
Presentaion: All the SWEET features plus garage mode. amazing
Graphics: Best i've seen on 360
Sound: When I pull RT and hear the engine i push my foot down!
Lasting Appeal: Really long w/ live. Not to long w/o live.

Total: 9.5

Sweet But Short

PGR3 is a better game than the xbox version pgr2. The graphics and sound are so amazing, especially if you use the in car camera! Its like you're really driving a Mcclarion or other mucho expensive sports car. The car lineup is extensive, and fairly easy to unlock. You're still using the same kudos + winning formula to earn points and unlock cars. Let me say up front, that I don't have dsl\cable internet. Because of this, the game is very short in single player mode. My son and I finished this game in less than a month in career mode. There is little doubt, that this would be so much fun playing online, so I'm envious of you who play it online. This isn't a Forza or Gran Tourismo type game, which I prefer. Yet this is the best so called racer the 360 has currently. Ridge Racer was average, and Need for speed most wanted isn't a racing sim. Even if you don't have this game online, you owe it to yourself to see what its like to drive an expensive euro car for only $50! I just love the in car camera...its so real!
