Not the game you hope it would be, but fun anyway.

If you are a Star Trek fan (like myslef) you will probably like it. The graphics are great and it is fun to play on-line against other people. There is not a lot of customizing other than adjusting your power distribution between engines, shields and weapons, but that often makes or breaks you in battle. While there is a story in the single player mode, I play mostly on-line and it can be a fun diversion. You quickly learn which ships and races are good and the battles become a little more predictable (i.e. Romulans suck, smaller Klingon ships are good, most people don't know how to manuever the Borg and everyone loves the Defiant). The on-line matches are customizable to length, number of ships and races and respawns and are fun. Depending on your connection speed, you may experience some problems connecting with matches. In addition, this late in the game (the game was released a year ago) there seems to be less people on to play with.

It is not hard to learn. It can be fun to take 10 minutes out of your busy day, grab 4 starships and slug it out on-line. The graphics are great though the music and sound effects have a little to be desired (such as that annoying crew member telling you your going to have a warp core breech after your ship has already exploded).

Would I pay $59 for it? I did and would probably again because I am a Star Trek fan. I wish it was more of a strategy game on-line. Good on-line game for those with ADD since most matches are 10 minutes or less.

Star Trek Legacy - What The Hell Am I Shooting At?

The premise for this game is good, but not good enough. I was drawn to buying this game because #1 I'm a huge Star Trek nerd and #2 I like video games with lazers. However, I'm not sold on the idea of flying a star ship around like a fighter out of Starfox. The level of detail they could have taken this game would have made it 10x as much fun (i.e. doing damage control, boarding enemy ships, etc.etc.)
But biggest of all is the controls. If you are prone to vertigo, this game is not for you. The camera controls are something to be dealt with as you're always attempting to figure out where the enemy is. Good sounds, good voice actors, nooooot that good gamer control.

AVOID THIS AT ALL COSTS!!!!!

Go take a look at the reviews for the PC version, which I own. This game is an aboslute travesty.

It has no depth, no strategy, zero replay value. It's buggy, controls are worthless, graphics are not up to snuff, there is no upgrading of systems or selection of captains, no ability to use Star Trek systems like tractor beams or transporters, no 3D manuevering - you can't even customize the skirmish mode by selecting your own enemies! The game does it for you. No in-game save, you can only save one mission at a time... need I go on?

Avoid it at ALL COSTS!

not so great...

the game doesn't feel right...it doesn't feel grand or epic enough. each ship should be really powerful (in different ways to be sure, like shields, armament, cloak, etc), but because you use a fleet of ships one ship doesn't matter from the other and they kill and die too fast. the fleet really is the problem, games like this should really focus on you commanding one ship as that would be sufficient. you never really feel in total command of your fleet, as you only really control every little bit of whichever single ship you are controlling at any given time.
but besides the above, this is an average game. a rental (and then only for trekkies), not one for buying.

Rave?

I got this for my son for Christmas as he was raving about it.
I am not a gamer. I simply watch.
It took him a couple hours to master the controls, and about 16 hours to beat the game. From all the hype, I expected months of playing enjoyment for him. Once he beat it, it was relegated to the stone pile. He has not played it since. Not even on line.
As far as the graphics..... Yippy skippy. I can see no appreciable difference compared to many other games he has, including those for his PS2.

Not bad...but could be better!

A little slow going.

I am not a big Star Trek fan but I do like the show. I got this game used after checking out the demo on XBOX Live. Yes, the controls are little complicated but once you get the hang of them you will piloting the various types of starships like a pro. Keep in mind each class of starship handles differently and one has to use trial and error on which is best suited for the task. The Enterprise is listed as a "cruiser" so it should be able to handle most tasks that are assigned to it, the bigger destroyers and battleships have a slow turning radius but heavier fire power so, again choose your vessels wisely. This is more of a tactical-shooter game but it would have been nice to have a free roaming environment and more ways to complete an assignment. The other thing I don't like is when you pick a ship that is the same class as the Enterprise; they both say NCC-1701 U. S. S. Enterprise on the hull. It's only when you have a different class ship that the registries change. But overall if you have patience and like to hear the voice of your favorite captain it isn't such a bad game.

A Lot of Fun for you star ship captains at heart

The game is surprisingly fun and simple to get the hang of as long as you spend the time to do the tutorial. I hate doing tutorials but the game drew me in pretty fast and the story was fun to follow.

I love the ability to choose what ships you want to buy. This allows you to customize combat to fit your individual style. Some might like smaller faster ships or save up and buy some of the big boys and just punch it out with the baddies.

The only real complaint that i have now that Bethesda patched the single player campaign is the shoddy wobbly DVD that sounds like it wants to tear up my drive every time it spins up. The DVD has so much silk screening on it that its unbalanced. More annoying than anything else.

All in all, I plan to get the PC version for some of the extensive modding that's being done.

Might as well not be an XBL game

Single player game is pretty good. Like a lot of space strategy games, this game is played in a pizza box of space. The vertical distance you have to work with is pretty large though. The variety of ships is pretty accurate to canon with the exception of maybe the size of the ships.

People are very rarely in the XBL lobby, so if you're looking to buy this for multiplayer, unless you've got friends to invite, it's probably not a good selling point.

Good graphics, fun gameplay, but not at home multiplayer

I bought this game largely under the idea that i could play it at home for two player (look at the case, it says players: 2, THEN online multiplayer 2-4) however, if you go to [...] and look up legacy Q @ A, you will find that it does NOT support at home multiplayer, a big dissapointment, that removes a lot of the gameplay ability. The dissapointing thing is, Encounters, a PS2 cd-rom game had 2 player, and legacy, a dual-layer DVD-rom couldn't manage that?? I live where they don't provide internet service, so thus i am doomed to single player legacy until i move away, or miracoulously am allowed the ability to purchase more than dial up. So i wouldn't recommend this game for anything more than $[...] if you have to pay that much, don't do it. Wait for it to drop in price, or get it used. A big letdown, considering that it SAID two player seperate from online play (hmm, isn't that the stuff that causes games to go belly up??) So, either get it cheap, or wait for a new one in the future. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long for a new Star trek game that sports high-def multiplayer.
Other than that, if you want it just for single player, then here's a bit about the story: I'm a huge star trek geek, i've got all but like a doezen episodes or so from all the series that were ever made, so story accuracy (i.e., the fact that James kirk's Enterprise can take on a galaxy class in encounters is just absurd) so that part is pretty accurate. The Quantum torpedoes are blue, not like standard photons in encounters, and they have at least twice the firepower. Borg cubes are not like the little things in encounters, they are massive, gargantuan, to-be-reckoned with ships. And last but not least, Defiant, unlike in some games, can paste warbirds and whatever other classes of ships if you use it right.
So in summary, for single player only, get it, for multiplayer, get it only if you have Xbox live and internet.
