More Frustrating Than Fun

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 1 / 4

The game features incredible graphics and a wide variety of vehicles but that's about it. It is clear programmers took a lot of short cuts such as using the same tracks over and over and over... They also used the age old (and very unrealistic) trick of having the computer controlled vehicles vary their speed based on your success. The better you do, the better they do. So if you're struggling just stop, wait ten seconds and then you'll be able to catch the leaders. You can also get your vehicle stuck in several places with nothing in the programming to reset you. Your only option is to hold the boost button down until you explode. But by the time that happens, the competition is long gone. I've played a lot of great racing games... this isn't one of them.

what a blast!

I could go into all the technical hoo-rah about this game - not gonna do it - it's just downright fun and you never take the same route twice!!

Sorry - This Game Sucks

Playing the full game - not a demo - shows this game to be truly aweful. I'm no slouch at picking up driving games and have had almost no enjoyment out of this game so far. Your stuck initially with a pickup truck trying to race against rally, motocross and ATVs and frankly stand no chance. The controls are mushy, there's little to no feedback on what you are doing around the track and the odds of rolling or smashing are so high that actually winning is considered impossible.

I'd give this one a miss ladies and gents.

Ignore the positives!

Man, what are you people thinking? This is just a PS2 game with updated graphics. The controls are HORRIBLE. The 6 axis gimmick really shows how weak it is here. Skip this game, it is a big waste of time. There are about 10,000 better racing games for the PS2 or xbox.

AMAZING!!! But what about the need for....?

this game is so much fun it isnt even funny. it is challenging and there is so much variation you can get out of each track. but there is the problem - there are eight (8)... eight tracks. given, they are awesome, every one of them, but that is a huge limit on how much there is. if you have broadband then the online is awesome. if you dont, then you only have the same race to do over and over and over again after you finish the single player.

excelent

As a fan of the PS2 ATV Offroad Fury series I was looking forward to PS3 MotorStorm being better in every way. It surpassed my expectations in game play fun, interactions with other vehicles & the environment, multiple routes through terrain, and of course the rightfully touted beautiful graphics and deforming vehicles & track.

On the downside, the absence of a split-screen multiplayer mode for offline duelling with friends is sorely missed. It makes the game a selfish single-player-per-home pleasure. To its credit, the online mode is marvellously simple to use, adding some unpredictable opponents who may choose to play for speed or for demolition derby fun. I've not yet used the bluetooth headset option, but I'm happy to see that unlike some online games, audio from those with headsets is heard by all players, even those without headsets.

While I enjoy the raucous music tracks in moderation, their homogenous frentic style becomes grating after an hour of play. They are easily turned down or off.

Buy this game. It rocks!

The levels are beautiful. Great vehicles, great music. High flying jumps are great fun. Even crashing is a good time.

Great off-road racing mayhem that has its moments.

As a person who does not buy many racing games, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed Motorstorm. The single player is arguably bare-bones with one mode: race each ticket until you have golds. It sounds simplistic, but it is very challenging. Try a race where you are on a motorcycle against enormous big rigs and you'll see what I mean. The online multiplayer is where your adrenaline will really start to pump.

Racing against other humans is much more rewarding than racing against the game's AI. One major complaint I have with the single player is that the AI is very simple. It will stick with you no matter how well you race, until you crash and a horde of racers is right there to pass you by. If someone is in front of you, that AI-controller vehicle will not care about the race. He will stop and block your way while others pass him just to slow you down. It's cheap AI, and it will frustrate you, but you find ways around it. Atleast when playing real people online, everyone wants to win.

I recommend this game to racing fans.

Online Multiplayer is Incredible

This a deep offroad racing game with eight extremely well created courses that test the skills any racer. While many people complain about the number of courses available, each course is expertly designed and allow for multiple ways to race through a lap. It is rare to go through a course exactly the same time in a race.

Visually, this game is stunning. Running at full 720p, the cars, and the environment especially, look incredibly realistic. In fact, the courses change every lap because of different layers of ground that are churned up. For instance, the first lap you may be driving in compacted dirt while the last lap you're driving in deep mud.

The game iteself, however, is very bare bones. There are only two options when you want to race: a campaign mode which is basically the eight courses strung together with different restrictions on vehicles, and online. The campaign mode quickly becomes frustatingly difficult, but the online mode always delivers. Online, you can race on any course, with any vehicle, any time of day (in the game, or literally). It is just pure fun racing against up to 11 other people around the country. There are a few minor problems with the online mode. However, those should be fixed in a new free downloadable patch slated to release sometime in the summer. There is no splitscreen racing mode, though, so you can't play against your buddies you invited over (what a bummer).

If you own a PS3, this a must have if you have even the slightest interest in racing games. The few but great courses and stellar online mode more than make up for the limited options.
