Fabulous Addition to Clancy Arsenal

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 5 / 13

I'm writing this review only having played the demo. But having played teh first one and this one, there's a very clear difference. The visuals are outstanding, especially the explosions. What GRAW seems to do best is tie you into the intensity of the battle. W/ the wicked loud grenade explosions and gunfire ringing in your ears. When played on an HD TV and surround sound, this game will blow you away. What really gives it its value is the 18 fully fleshed out multiplayer maps it ships w/ and the different game modes. you can even play on a team with 15 other players against a huge force of rebels. Worth the money!

Hope this was helpful!

I love the ghost reacon series more than any other game, but even though this game is worth buying because you will have fun. I am just disappointed because the only improvement over advanced warfighter was a little better graphs and little better AI.
NEGATIVES:
*The game will not allow you to react fast to situatios, the gun moves to slow.
*No full co-op campaign which makes this game be another of the bunch and lose one star.
*The same bugs from last version (lose two star).

POSITIVES:
*Continuation from last game.
*Fun to play.

I am still waiting to see fi there will be a game better than Rainbow Six Vegas which in my opinion has been the best game ever created so far.

Ghost Recon 2-Excellent Game, Just A Couple of Complaints

This is an excellent game. I am not very good at tactical shooters, and one thing you learn early, you must be careful, use cover, and choose your shots--you pretty much always out numbered to a great degree and if you try to "run and gun" you WILL be killed. Strategy is more important than marksmanship--it's more of a "hitman" game method (take cover watch for enemies, notice their movement patterns) than a "quake" or "Doom" type shooter (try to kill everything that moves). The levels have several components to each mission, marked off by "checkpoints'" you must make it through several areas to get to the next "day." Many times you will go into the final (most difficult) area at about 50% health and low on ammo; it is essential to use your squad (if you have them; many times you're dropped in somewhere alone to start with) to do the later fighting, ALWAYS make proper use of cover, pick up enemy weapons when your rifle ammo is low, etc. Otherwise you will die again and again. Well, you die again and again, anyway. lol.

Anyway, this game picks up, from what I understand, where the first one left off (I have it but haven't finished it; I got frustrated when a got stuck at an early point). You have another highly critical mission down in Mexico, something to do with missing nukes, and you must undertake several different types of missions, clearing ares of enemies, destroying their heavy equipment, extracting VIPs, etc. What I like is, you are free, to an extent to figure out the best way to do things. I don't want to give too much away, but, there is one spot, after I tried to get through many many times (those of you playing the game might know that spot when i tell you what i did), finally got exasperated, and just ran like hell to the ojbective point, taking a few hits along the way, lol. The game is very addictive, at least to me, I will keep trying and trying until I get whatever the problem is correct. I do think that the game is an improvement on GRAW1.

Now, to my complaints--the "checkpoint" autosave thing always bugs me. I much prefer a "save anywhere" type system. The problem with "checkpoints" is they are usually spaced quite aways apart; its tough if you only have a limited time per day to spend gaming, and you have to take an hour to go from the LZ to ALMOST the next stage, get killed, and have to start all over again! (and hear the same stuff over and over and over-"Dammit! I need a SITREP!" argggghhhh).

The other thing I didn't like about the game (and GRAW1) is, you are in this huge city, and except for a few enemies, it's empty? I think it would be more of a challenge if there was traffic, innoncent bystanders to watch out for (or kill, if you're in a bad mood, muhahahahaha) and things like that, not just a ghost town. They way they have it, it seems a lot like the whole thing is a training exercise, with the Ghosts as the trainess and the terrorists as the OPFORS, that's how it strikes me, anywyay.

But those little things don't change the fact this is an excellent game. I recomment it highly.

Not as good as Rainbox6

My opinion is Rainbow6 is one of the best games out right now for the 360. I would buy that one over this one with out question, especially if you are going to be playing multi-player. GRAW2 is probably a better single player game, but everything changes in its multi-player. T

he guns behave differently for example in single player when using a sniper rifle, the cross hairs drift around and you have to stabilize them by controlling your breathing. In multiplayer you see these red lines and your shot will randomly end up somewhere within those red lines, not where your cross hairs are.

The movement in single player is really good. You can 'post up' on walls look out around corners etc. These features dont exist in multi-player. Not sure why, they just dont.

If I am want to play a shooter alone, i will play GRAW, if I am playing with friends, we definitely will play rainbox6.

A note to UBISOFT...why make the controls different between your games? Would be nice if buttons like reload were the same between the games.

Best game out!

I have a PS3 and Xbox 360, and this is the best game available on any HD game console. The graphics are amazing, the sound is awesome, and the gameplay is addictive. I play this game mostly online/multiplayer, but single player mode is also very fun. I have no complaints about this game and it is exactly what I've been waiting for to come out.

I have played almost all of the PS3 games, and none even come close to this one. Out of all of the xbox 360 games this is way better than crackdown or anything else that has recently come out.

Fun and accurate, even to a soldier

Every time I play GRAW2 I feel like I'm back at work. The accuracy of the game to real life stratagies and tactics that I use in day to day life never ceases to amaze me. Also, playing online or system link can be great fun, especially with a group of good friends.

360 vs. PS3 variant; A comparison

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

For Ghost recon advanced warfighter 2, or GRAW 2 as i'll call it here, the 360 variant was better. Now maybe you might not have the choice of the two but just in case, here it is.
I gave a 5 star review for it on the PS3 version. That was somewhat unfair to the 360 version as I have just recently bought a 360 and GRAW 2. The PS3 variant has one more multiplayer map I can think of then the 360 version does, but the 360 version has so much more. If i were a newcomer to Blu-ray vs dual DVD-rom on the 360, I'd have said the 360 version was Blu-ray simply because; 1, better resolution, the PS3's can only go to 720p, whereas the 360's is 1080i, or even 1080p. 2. Some People say that this doesn't have co-op campaign? Well they are half right. While you can't play the co-op campaign you CAN play at home, offline co-op campaing missions, about 6 of 'em. You have objectives to accomplish, allies to fight with, etc.. It's not as in-depth as the single player one, with only a mild pep talk from the brass and a list of objectives, but it still has value. I did not notice this on the PS3 one. 3. You can ALSO, customize your missions, at least to an extent. You can decide if you want to respawn 3, or even half a dozen times for those of you who are new at this. And When you do Co-op elimination, i.e, shoot a mass of A.I. controlled bad guys on a map, you can control if you want a low number, medium number, or high number (I prefer high for massive battles). Then there is the helicopter hunt where the helicopter's fly around you and you shoot them down with whatever until they get ticked at you enough to rocket you into the ground and then you have to really pay attention to what you are doing. There is the Ability to control areas of the battlefield against waves of opponets. Essentially, think modern day, scaled down carbine of Halo when it comes to multiplayer. Again, maybe it's on there but I didn't notice all this on the PS3 version.
4. Online play, and Achivements. Now why exactly am i going to work my thumbs and fingers exhausted for a pat on the back with the ps3? You get achivement points for accomplishing many different feats on this game, and for completing it on harder difficulties. Now I don't have online where I live, not even DSL, but It still owns most other games for offline multiplayer. Only STW battlefront series, and Maybe MOH and Halo can compete with what I've seen here. Again, just preference, but It's still great.
5. Price. You can get a 39.99 game for the 360, or 59.99 for the PS3. (and for me who got up at 3 on the 23rd of nov. friday and went to best buy and got it for $19 new!). So you get more for your dollar with the 360 if you have the choice.
So if you're hoping for a FPS with great multiplayer and are a tad dissapointed with the call of duty offline multiplayer like me, then GRAW is the way to go!

Impressive

The graphics and gameplay are really impressive for my first Ghost Recon game. The only downside to this game is that there are way too many controls to remember and at times it can be confusing and frustrating when trying to control your squad. The shooting needs to be improved slightly but it doesn't take the fun away from the game.

A formative fan of all the UBI Soft games dating back to Rainbows, Rogue, and the Recon Series, this XBOX Release leaves a great deal to offer.
The limited number of missions, the repetitive missions just leave a sour taste in the mouth of someone whose just shelled out 50 quid.
Get a creative team to overhaul the system.

The one real positive is the ability to control your armored support, and other team members. The limited incorporation of the little birds, tanks, and armored support is tremendous.
UBISOFT, Red Storm or Tom Clancy himself need to send his creative team to Afghanistan, Baghdad, the Jungles of the Phillipines and Indonesia, even take a crack at some places in Sudan or Somalia.
This is a SHOOTER GAME, use and create some environments that are real and those that our Special Ops community are engaging in right now, TODAY! and apply these new age weapons to it.
Not the US Going to War with Mexico. Dont worry, it wont be another black hawk down, your designers are too good to let that happen.

The budgets available to these creative teams Should be tremendous given the past revenues which this game has produced. To the World Traveler, this just looks like a poor attempt to get another product on the shelf.

If this producer wants to keep his job, he will get back to what got him there.

SP hurts the overall fun

Let me start by saying this games multi is great. The main disruption here is when someone with a questionable connection hosts a game, and it crahes once the battle begins. I haven't had more fun playing a multiplayer game on the 360. There are tons of game types. I haven't even tried them all because I'm stuck playing my favorites. The multi achievements are fair. The hardest being 1hr defend. The online community is better than most. I get more talkative server than anyother game. Overall the MP is the bread and butter of this title.

The single player on the otherhand is not that great. I only played through it for the points. I found myself bored after about an hour of play. I found the missions very easy. I had little to no trouble beating the game on hard my first and only playthrough. There is an obvious tactic they tell you off the bat, and try to hide with team options. I guess if you don't exploit the hiccup you might have a challenge. To do that you can't be lazy with the game. One thing I liked about the story was it took place in a day. None of that vague timeline business from other games. It gave the game a real feel. Also the improvement on the AI is much needed. Your people don't just stand in the open to catch rounds. On the other hand they can't hit the ground falling. I found that infuriating. The sniper is the only person who can successfully engage targets.

The grafix of this game are monster. I love 'em. The lighting! The look of the player models as they run and battle under a forrest is amazing. Watching the shadows roll up and down the combatants is a new experience. The sound effects are top notch material. I can't comment on the music, because I turn it off. The menus are easy to navigate. There is a menu option to let you view your status of achievements by a percentage rating.

All in all I'm pleased with this game. I would recommend this one for purchase. The lasting appeal of the MP will last a long while. Or at least 'til Halo 3 release.
