One of hundreds of Final Fight rip-offs on the SNES...

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 3 / 3
Date: February 17, 2004
Author: Amazon User

In the early nineties, with the arrival of the Super Nintendo, third-party game maker Taito, best known for games like Bubble Bobble and Arkanoid, wanted to try their hand at something completely different - a side-scrolling action game similar to Capcom's Final Fight. What was born from this was Sonic Blast Man. Read on for my review of this game.

PROS:
-The game really manages to give the player a "comic book" feel, which is exactly what Taito was going for. There are a number of comic book-styled elements, all of which help to contribute to the game.
-When compared to other games of this style on the Super Nintendo, this stands out as one of the better ones.

CONS:
-How many Final Fight rip-offs do we need on one system!?
-Only one player!? Any idiot knows these games are funnest when you can play them with a friend.
-The basic plot is boring - this is a weakness of just about every "save the world" styled video game.

OVERALL:
If you've got a Super Nintendo and you want a good side-scrolling action-adventure game, stick with Final Fight 2. This game is nothing revolutionary, and while far from bad, it just didn't meet my expectations. Sonic Blast Man 2, the sequel, is WAY better.
